Pre-Soundboard Soundcheck

Just a quick question before the music tomorrow:

How many folks out there have subwoofers hooked up to your internets viewing system?

I ask this because I’m wanting to throw something dynamic at y’all tomorrow, but if most of you won’t be able to enjoy it, I may wait on it.

I’d be interested to know what you have (make, model and wattage, if care to get that specific) or how you have it hooked up. I’m currently running a customized 5.1 Dolby package that handles what I’m wanting to post pretty well.

Anyway, let me know so I can get to loading one of the possible choices up as soon as I get home tomorrow morning.

See you then!

My soon to be new pols

Since I laid down in my Monday post the fact that I’ll be moving at the end of this month, and since all politics is local, I figured I’d brouse the State of Washington’s website (that I am paying for) to see who I’ll be represented by and what they stand for.

I current live in the 37th Legilative District and am represented at the state level, since my effort to undo it failed, by lunkheaded Democrats. This is to include, at the federal level, the tinfoil hat wearing SOB “Howlin’ Mad” Jim McDermott who has a lock on the rest of the tinfoilers in the 7th Congressional District.

I’ll be moving into the 27th Legislative District, where things aren’t too much different as only the names have changed. But the names haven’t just changed in the statewide offices, I am now out of McDermott’s grubby clutches for the first time in 10 years!

But, I have played right into the hands of Adam Smith and his 9th Congressional District. Smith isn’t all that bad of a guy. He’s definitely not McDermott, but he is also not a Riechert.

(And for all you Washingtonians, here’s your CD map)

I’m still stuck with “Osama Mama” Patty Murray (aka Abramoff’s 9th favorite person) and “Barely Senator” Maria Cantwell in the Senate, but I’m working on it.

But back to the 27th; I found some interesting people that will representing me at my new residence.

My State Senator will be Democrat Majority Whip, Debbie Regala.

She seemed to be just a typical Democrat busy body; doing anything so that it looks like she’s doing something. Then I found that she is at the head of the line of Democrats who are trying to tame down some legislation that will exempt certain child molesters from the “25 years to life” sentencing that the state Repubs are trying to get passed. All the child molester has to do is be related to the victim and they get the kid gloves treatment.

And remember, at least 75% of molested children are victimized by someone in their family circle. That means that 75% of the sickos in Washington State will not see significant jail time if the Democrats get their way on this issue.

My Position 1 Representative is Dennis Flannigan.

Dennis seems to be a nice enough fellow, even if he does like expanding the role of the state government whenever he can. A former instructor at Western Washington University and a guy who knows his bread is buttered via the Port of Tacoma and helps the Port out.

My Position 2 Representative is majority Caucus Vice Chair, Jeannie Darneille.

She must go. Tomorrow will not be soon enough, and this is why:

Judging from the bills she has sponsored and co-sponsored, Ms. Darneille is in the hip pocket of the Brady Foundation of the Pacific Northwest, Ceasefire Washington (who still won’t get a link from me).

House Bill 1489, which she co-sponsored, would prohibit firearms in the State Legislative Building. This is citizen property and the right of Washington State citizens to carry firearms in these buildings has been tested and proven in our Supreme Court in the past. Ms. Darneille would seek to make the Legislative Building a ‘Gun Free Zone’.

Now take a look at this one,

House Bill 1490, of which she was a prime sponsor, would prohibit anyone without a concealed pistol license or an area specific hunting permit from carrying a firearm inside Washington State Parks.

We are having a record number of cougar and bear attacks in this state. Going into the parks without a firearm is only one step short of slathering yourself in bacon when you park your car.

As Jason at Fish or Man proved just a couple months ago, Washington has provisions for open carry and those provisions should not be taken away in the wilderness.

Put the first bill on top of the second bill and what do you get shortly thereafter? All state parks as “Gun Free Zones”. It only takes one more step and there will be no carrying of a defensive firearm in the wilderness. Once they pass the first, the second will be a cakewalk.

Ms. Darneille is also pro-criminal. She sponosred House Bill 1803 which would remove 2nd Degree Robbery from the state’s “Most Serious Offences” list. She also sponsored House Bill 1768 which would limit the number of interstate criminal transfers allowed per year, tying the hands of our constabulary and making other states not want to cooperate with us..

This woman is dangerous to her constituents and I seriously hope she comes up for re-election while I’m living in her district. It could prove interesting to hear her answer why she doesn’t want the citizens of this state to be able to defend themselves while she writes laws that get criminals out of jail sooner.

And that’s it for the 27th Legislative District. How’s the happenings in your area?

Remember, there is no “Off Season” in politics.

He must be trying out

For an open slot on the NYT Board of Editors.

After the over the top anti-Bush political behavor by Democrats at the King funeral yesterday, Kos is only able to pull one headline out of his hat:

Republicans desecrate Coretta Scott King’s funeral

He then cuts and pastes the thoughts of a couple of leftist bloggers who also seem to trying for the job because they can’t seem to put their finger on the actual issue and make racist comments in the process of trying to deflect from the actual point.

The most ignorant of which was Digby at Hullabaloo:

That dessicated waste of space Kate O’Beirne is on Hardball right now screeching for the laudenenum because “liberals don’t know how to act at funerals!” Oh lawdy, lawdy, lawdy Miss Mellie, I do decleah these Democrats are so ungenteel! Why, they were talkin’ politics and singin’ and dancin’ and actin’ all Negro and everything!

I personally find it absolutely outrageous, OUTRAGEOUS! that Republicans are attacking Coretta Scott King and her family this way. Why, she is an American icon! How dare they! Do they really think that African Americans don’t know how to behave at a funeral for one of their own? How very white of them.

Kate O’Beirne isn’t fit to wipe Coretta Scott King’s shoes and criticizing her on the day of her memorial service is disgusting. What kind of unfeeling ghouls have Republicans become??

I could ask the very same of you and the Democrats, Digby. King never spoke about the intercepting of communications of mass-murdering religious zealots. Nor would he have continued to spread the lie that the majority of deaths from Hurricane Katrina were blacks.

Exactly where are Republicans criticizing Mrs. King or her family? Is Reverend Lowry a member of King’s brood? Did Carter or Clinton get honorarily adopted and nobody told me? Or are you just saying that any Democrat who criticizes the current administration is a King?

Not one single word was said about the celebration of the life of Mrs. King via song or dance. The complaint was about the use of political rhetoric at a memorial service.

BTW, it is more than a bit racist to say that blacks behave differently than whites do, but I’m sure that your bigotry of low expectaions makes you feel all the better for having said that.

RNS Quote of the Day

The Central Pacific, which was built by the “Big Four” of California, on federal subsidies, was the railroad which was guilty of all the evils popularly held against railroads. For almost 30 years, the Central Pacific controlled California, held a monopoly, and permitted no competitor to enter the state. It charged disastrous rates, changed them every year and took virtually the entire profit of the California farmers and shippers, who had no other rail road to turn to. What made this possible? It was done through the power of the California legislature.

The Big Four controlled the legislature and held the state closed to competitors by legal restrictions, such as, for instance, a legislative act which gave the Big Four exclusive control of the entire coastline of California and forbade any other railroad to enter any port. During these 30 years, many attempts were made by private interests to build competing railroads in California and break the monopoly of the Central Pacific. These attempts were defeated, not by method of free trade and free enterprise, but by legislative action.

This 30 year monopoly of the Big Four and the practices they engaged in are always cited as an example of the evils of big business and of free enterprise. Yet the Big Four were not free enterprisers; they were not business men who had achieved  power by means of unregulated trade. They were representatives of what is now called a “Mixed Economy”. They achieved power by legislative intervention in business; none fo their abuses would have been possible in a free, unregulated economy.

Fighting Off the Taxman

I’m busy doing the taxes for RNS Seattle Station.

The taxman is armed with a rapier sword-cane versus me with my hand and a half. I’ve got the momentum, but he’s got the speed, since he already has my money.

Even though I know I’ve already lost, I’m hoping to get a couple pounds of flesh off the guy (and if I can manage to knock him upside the head with my pommel spike, I’ll consider that a bonus.)

In the future

Everyone will be Hitler for 15 minutes.

I know that came from the blogosphere, but I cannot for the life of me remember where. Unfortunately, it has just been proven false.

Let’s start from the beginning: First, the tinfoil hatters call Bush and everyone in his cabinet a Nazi, followed shortly thereafter by castro stooge, Hugo Chavez, calling Bush worse than a Nazi, followed last week by Rumsfeld making an statement that barely compared the rise of Chavez to that of Hitler.

And that was where it the “Everyone will be a Nazi” mem died.

Because the actual Nazis will be having none of it.

From Mora at the Babalu Blog:

Nazis — stinking NAZIS — are protesting at the U.S. consulate in Bavaria about Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld’s comparison of Hitler’s rise to Hugo Chavez’s. Apparently, even Nazis … Nazis! … have tough “standards” and the disorderly clownish dictator of Caracas just doesn’t measure up. They have a grievance.

You know you have to suck pretty damn hard to have the Nazis arguing against you being compared to them.

RNS Quote of the Day

It is generally believed that in the period when railroads first began to be built in this country, there was a great deal of useless “over-building”, a great many lines which were started and then abandoned after being proved worthless and ruining those involved. The statists often use this period as an example of “the unplanned chaos” of free enterprise. The truth is that most (and perhaps all) of the useless railroads were built, not by men who intended to build a railroad for profit, but by speculators with political pull, who started these ventures for the sole purpose of obtaining money from the government.

There were many forms of government help for these projects, such as federal land grants, subsidies, state bonds, municipal bonds, etc. A great many speculators started railroad projects as a quick means to get some government cash, with no concern for the future or the commercial possibilities of their railroads. They went through the motions of laying so many miles of shoddy rail, anywhere at all, without inquiring whether the locations they selected had any need for a railroad or any economic future. Some of these men collected the cash and vanished, never starting any railroad at all. This is the source of the popular impression that the origin of American railroads was a period of wild, unscrupulous speculation. But the railroads of this period which were planned and built by businessmen for a proper, private, commercial purpose were the ones that survived, prospered and proved unusual foresight in the choice of their locations.

In defense of Super refs

There’s an interesting Super Bowl-related post at Polipundit. DJ Drummond notes that his personal website shot up to the third slot under the Google search “Superbowl officiating” today, because of his prior use of that phrase in a parody post. Seems that lots of folks agree with the Analog Kid that the Superbowl refs could have used some eyeglasses, or something.

Sadly, I also must agree. Even though my Steelers were triumphant, there were some pretty lousy calls.

However, Drummond makes the case that we non-officials don’t have the gravitas (heh) to criticize the refs, and gives all the details about how wretched is the life of an NFL official. Well, after reading that, I don’t think I’d be willing to do it. That’s worse than being a traveling salesman!

Although I must admit that every time I see Ed Hochuli, I tell myself that he’s who I wanna be when I grow up. Since I’m 36 now, I’d better start working on it. I’ve got the lawyer part down, but I think in order to end up looking like Ed when I’m 56, I’m gonna need to get started right away on a second career as a professional bodybuilder.

The Lowdown

Things have been rather depressing around the RNS Seattle Station. With our dog Jake getting sick and then passing last week, I thought the end of January was going to be a rough week. Then I got an unwelcome phone call.

It was the Analog landlord.

Yes, the Kid and company still have to rent due to the ungodly housing costs here in the Seattle Metro area and I currently live in someone else’s house. Not the worst thing, I could still be living in an apartment and have to worry about some hussy nextdoor’s little firestarter child like I did before I met the Analog Wife.

Anyway, the landlord calls and says that he needs to sell the house to meet some other financial obligations he has. The wife and I are still at least six months from being able to buy, so we can’t close the deal just yet and he can’t wait. ‘Gotta be sold by April’ he says.

That was last Saturday afternoon.

So now we have a sick/dying dog and no place to live in 45 days. The wife just can’t believe our luck, all of it bad, all of it at the same time. I rationalize that it is better to get it out of the way early.

I spend the week hammering out my new schedule with my boss and looking for a new place to live that will accept our small zoo and dealing with the veterinarian and then the crematorium. I find a couple places and set up showings for places I would like to or wouldn’t mind living for this weekend.

‘Showings’ is code for an interview. Kind of like a job interview, but for housing. They look at you, your references, your history (job and credit) and decide the risk. Luckily for the wife and I, we’re pretty much perfect in those regards and we nail down a very cool place in a better neighborhood (our top choice of them all) on the first run. The house is 30% larger and I can have a dedicated Gun/Vault Room.

That was Saturday morning.

And that is about all of the good news. Unfortunately, there is a ton of bad news:

First up, I have to move my guns. I don’t “Hate” much, but that is one of the things on the list. I don’t even know if I have the engery to move all my ammo in one day. Next up, the money we’d saved for a down payment is now gone, and then some, knocking us back to possibly another 18 months before we can buy.

But the worst news is that I stand a very good chance of not being able to go to Boomershoot in April. February and March were supposed to be spent buying reloading equipment and components, finding a decent load and practicing at the 600 and 1000yd range I’d found two counties away. I was also supposed to be finishing up the fitting of the .22-250 into it’s new wood. But all of the money is now going to moving. If there is any chance I can go, I’m going, but things aren’t looking very good right now.

I also can’t go to the first Speedpins Match with Mr. Completely and Rivrdog in Portland as I’ll be in the middle of moving. Hell, I porbably won’t even have the funds to go shoot pins with Mr. C on Whidbey anytime soon and I know I won’t have the money to renew my membership at that range until after April.

But the wife is happy now. The landlord will be happy that we’ll be out in time for him to make his sale. The new landlord is happy that he’s got two reliable people in his ‘retirement fund’ house. And my boss is happy that she’s got 24 hour coverage with my new schedule.

Life just gets in the way of the fun, sometimes. I’ll be happy in May, reading David’s posts on how much fun Boomershoot was, I guess.

Yeah, I know, world’s smallest violin time for the Kid.

e-Postal Match

Mr. Completely’s got it!

You’ll be seeing stars even after you’re done with it, so shoot early and shoot often to get in the top spot.

I’m very close to picking up my latest purchase, the Ruger 10in. I just need to get some time to go to the shop and pick it up. It’s been a busy time around Casa de Analog, as you probably read above, but I’ll be breaking it in with this match.

Speaking of top spots, Mr. C isn’t there in the Gunnie Awards and he needs your votes!

He lost electricity for a while and is behind in rousing his readers to vote for him. So vote early and vote often (you can vote once an hour, if Mr. C is correct).

UPDATE: Mr. C is also taking suggestions as to whom you might like to have speak at the Gunblogger Rendezvous. Even if you don’t plan on going, and you should if you can, let him know who your choices would be.

He is currently thinking about Ronnie Barrett, but I also suggested Chris Knox (son of Neal Knox) or Larry Pratt of the GOA.
