In defense of Super refs

There’s an interesting Super Bowl-related post at Polipundit. DJ Drummond notes that his personal website shot up to the third slot under the Google search “Superbowl officiating” today, because of his prior use of that phrase in a parody post. Seems that lots of folks agree with the Analog Kid that the Superbowl refs could have used some eyeglasses, or something.

Sadly, I also must agree. Even though my Steelers were triumphant, there were some pretty lousy calls.

However, Drummond makes the case that we non-officials don’t have the gravitas (heh) to criticize the refs, and gives all the details about how wretched is the life of an NFL official. Well, after reading that, I don’t think I’d be willing to do it. That’s worse than being a traveling salesman!

Although I must admit that every time I see Ed Hochuli, I tell myself that he’s who I wanna be when I grow up. Since I’m 36 now, I’d better start working on it. I’ve got the lawyer part down, but I think in order to end up looking like Ed when I’m 56, I’m gonna need to get started right away on a second career as a professional bodybuilder.
