I’m hoping I’m not the only one who hasn’t yet been to the movies yet this summer. You see, the wife is a movie-going-maniac. She would probably be happy with little else for her birthday than a years worth of movie passes, though I haven’t tried that one yet.
Her and some the ladies from her work will get together on their days off and go see a matinee and have lunch, which ususally gets the heat taken off of me to go with her. I just don’t see the fun in sitting in a dark room with a few dozen strangers when I can wait three months and watch it in the luxury of my own home (with the pause button at my fingertips when I need to take a leak).
But hey, she doesn’t like going to the range or to car shows, so we’re even.
For those of you who are looking for some good scary entertainment, you don’t need to go to the theater and plunk down your cash, for you have the internet, and with it, you can read something truly scary, like Kos diarist “bigjack x3” and his idea of “Untopia”.
In my utopia, less than ten percent of the people still cling to any deist religion. Â They are tolerated, but no idea that could be said to derive from their religions is ever made public policy.
There are no private schools in my utopia. Â People are free to home school their children. They can hire tutors. Â They can give their chidren a list of books, and send them to the library. Â But no private schools. Â Private schools make people feel bad when they see them, and cannot go in. Â Separate and not equal.
In my utopia, there is a salary cap of one million dollars per year. Â And a net worth cap of ten million. Â So, the wealth is spread out a lot more. Â Workers work harder, because they know there is no CEO getting ten million per year, and building net worth to the sky.
Everyone lives in a modest apartment. Â No big houses in suburbs with big lawns to mow on riding mowers.
Everyone drives a Subaru station wagon. Â Those who must use trucks in their work, such as construction workers with special tools, those people obviously must use their trucks at work. Â But aside from legitimate commercal use, all vehicles will be Subaru wagons. Â The Subaru has the four cylinder horizontally opposed engine, one of the biggest selling styles of engine in US history. Â This is the same style engine as the VW bug. Â But the Subaru is water cooled, so you have an effective heater.
So many thing (sic) will be better, in my utopia. Â For example, Black Americans can have a Black Americans association. Â I know, they already have that, the NAACP. Â However, in my utopia, their association would have some clout. Â It would be expected that any association that refused the proposals of the Black Americans’ association could expect a boycott, and maybe picketing, by the Black people.
Above all, in my utopia, the most important message taught to all, is that no one is evil, no behavior is evil. Â We will ponder what we will and will not tolerate or advocate based on pragmatic considerations. Â In other words, if certain behavior will let things work out okay, then we go along with that behavior.
Everyone is required to get very much into photography and drawing and painting. Â I know, ‘required’ sounds stupid and unreasonable. Â But I think that there should be some privilege that would be withheld from each citizen until that citizen goes through a very demanding art class. Â Demanding in the sense of many hours of drawing and painting required, and many photos of different objects. Â I say this because there is something about art that is therapeutic and liberating. Â I think anyone who gives it an honest try will agree.
As I said, art and science rule, in my utopia. Â Because life has no purpose, but it feels rich and full and fun with art. Â And we cannot understand ourselves, and manage anger, and savor art, without science.
In my utopia, science and art rule. Â The economy is there to serve the people, according to what we learn from science and art.
Needless to say, M. Night Shyamalan has nothing on this jackass.
