The Secret Revealed!

Sounds like the title to an impressive post, no?

OK, let’s see here, winners of the guessing game from over the weekend were:

Raphiel Benjamin, who was close, and gets 10% of the hundred billion zillion Monopoly type points for it.

The other 90% get split between Lergnom for being first with the right idea and TKDKerry for the specific guess.

Gattsuru, you’re going to hell for just the thought. As am I.

Thankee to everyone for playing!

Speaking of going to hell, someone stole the wife’s Virgin Mary of Guadalupe from our front garden a while back and she’s pissed because the bodega we bought it from is closed down now.

We’re cooking now!

Have you ever done a favor that you considered rather minor for a friend, and then that friend comes to repay the favor in a completely improportional way that favors you to the point where you’re speechless?

Well, I have.

I can’t tell you the favor or the friend as he wishes to consider the problem solved, but I can show you the gift.

This grill was inherited by my friend through his family, and seeing as how he already has one as nice or nicer and knew I was looking for one, he refurbished it and made the delivery to my place.

Over the week that the Analog Wife was with her family in Montana, I seasoned it up with “Beef Week” and then this weekend she and I hosted around a dozen or so of my relatives with it, and I have no other words than to say that it flawlessly completed all tasks asked of it.

I was actually hoping I’d remember to take some pics of it in action this weekend when it was full of ribs, burgers, dogs, etc, but not burning your guest’s food takes too much attention for me to also remember to grab the camera, so you’ll have to settle for my lunch from Sunday.

I’ve never had a grill with a searing burner, and I don’t think I can go back now. Fire up that 18,000 BTU firebreather, set your 12oz. Flat Iron steak on there for 45-60 seconds a side, then fork that slab over to the regular burners to grill it to your liking (Med Rare, thankyouverykindly).

You’d almost think that you’ll have to protect your steak from Zeus because even he couldn’t get something that tasty on Mt. Olympus.

We’ll be attatching the rotisserie bar and motor in the next couple weeks and if it works like the rest of the thing, those little game hens won’t stand a chance.

Poster Time!

I see that someone else also hadn’t seen the “D&D Inspirational posters” I linked to over the weekend, so I don’t feel too bad about missing them whenever they first came out.

This is especially true since I found one that I was able to modify to be more topical around these parts

And speaking of making your own ‘inspirational’ posters, Mugwug is still at it, and his latest one speaks for itself.

Watermelons from Pennsylvania

No, they’re not growing them there. Well, maybe in Philly.

Overshadowed by the Lieberman loss (and lost in my links file), was this story about the Penn Repubs giving the Green Party of Pennsylvania a helping hand.

Six staffers on Sen. Rick Santorum’s campaign – including an intern who tailed Democratic candidate Bob Casey Jr. in a duck costume – collected voter signatures to help place the Green Party on the fall ballot.

The residents at the Kos Kids Animal Farm and Petting Zoo are aghast that someone would desire power enough to play political “the enemy of my enemy is my friend”.

But only because they see the sedition of their own party as ‘patriotic’.

I haven’t seen any evidence of purges of Green Party Kos Kids from The Zoo, but I’m pretty sure I just haven’t gone down the comment thread far enough yet. I was laughing too hard at the near instant demand of national Instant Runoff Voting, a system that would have denied their savior, William ‘The Groper’ Clinton of both of his Presidencies.

Yet they claim that they’re so damn smart

I’ve seen the eco-socialists pushing California’s Proposition 87 on a few of the left wing blogs, and I must say, for people who claim they’re so much more intelligent than the average American, they have not a single clue as to how the world goes around.

From what I’ve read, the State of California will be setting and/or increasing fees paid by the oil companies to drill, and that the money from the fees, guestimated by the proponents of Prop 87 at $4 Billion, would then be diverted to ‘alternative engergies’.

What none of those I’ve see write about it, and this includes the fanatics of the ‘sticking it to Big Oil’ philosphy, ever say is how much these fees will increase the price at the pump.

Apparently, none of them has ever taken an economics class or learned from some other third party that all costs of production get passed along to the consumer.

What this new ‘fee structure’ boild down to is a roundabout tax by the government on the end user to pay for their fantasy of making cars run on magic pixie dust.

Holy purple twinkies! I hope this thing dies a swift death at the ballot box. And while I know a few intelligent people in CA, I don’t know that there are enough of them still in the state to make that happen.

Saving the Day

After getting transported by Miss Brandy from my lovely little getaway island to another, I arrived upon the place where the ’emergency’ was taking place that was interrupting my quite summer.

The Occidental Tush Institute fields a rather top notch set of beach vollyball teams and I, on occasion, have either coached or judged for them. So it was obvious, when this tourney was short a line judge, who they needed to call to make sure the event went off without a hitch.

spankable136.jpg

Now, OTI’s teams play beach volleyball in the nude, which has created a field of speculatiors who believe that is the reason for some of their favorable calls at the line.

These girls played rather well, though they were nowhere near OTI caliber. It was such a shame that I offered more than one of these players my card for private instruction.

Ooops!

Skipped a day there.

It seems that me changing my sleep schedule around to deal with what the Analog day when it actually came around.

Sorry about that.

What were her plans, you ask? Let’s see: Go see Pirates of the Caribbean II, then Clerks II, restaurant food only, a little bit of da shopping, etc. Nothing too spectacular.

Until Friday. We went on over to Bremerton/Port Orchard and looked at homes for sale. After selecting two-dozen from the realty MLS we narrowed that list down to ten and I mapped them out and we set off yesterday morning to take the tour.

Out of those ten, only two came even close to satisfying what we wanted. One of them was very promising and unless some nincompoop with more money than brains steps in, may actually still be available this fall when we go in for our loan approval. It is currently is priced too high compared to its neighbors, so I’m waiting for 10% to fall off by The end of next month.

And I just have two things to say about the rest of the places we looked at yesterday:

1. Some people have very disgusting decorating sensibilities (an entire home interior done in shades of fuscia) and/or living standard priorities (hot tubs in the back yard, but no fence for privacy or security)

And

2. Some people will live anywhere (I’d have to suit up to play vigilante and maybe even burn a couple places out before I’d even think of moving into a couple of the neighborhoods we visited)

Is there a Professor in the House?

That was the question that arrived at my villa door on Thursday.

It appears that my being here on my lovely little getaway island has reached the populaces on other lovely little getaway islands. The Kid gets a couple days off and I have to go back to work. Go figure. I’m going to have to talk to him about that.

I’ve turned away messengers in the past, but this seemed like a true emergency that, if I were to ignore it, would violate my Heineycratic Oath.

Sadly, there wasn’t a boat available to charter for the journey, but no matter, I wanted to meet up again with Miss Brandy, the island’s most skilled bush pilot.

spankable135.jpg

There has not been a time when Miss Brandy was unable to take her favorite professor where he wanted to go.

The X-Ray Effect

Okay, a buddy of mine saw this doohicky for sale on eBay and asked me if it was BS or not. I don’t have the optics/physics/tinkering background to say yea or nay. So I thought I’d toss it out to you all: is it possible to see through certain things in the daytime just by slapping an IR filter onto a camcorder?

(The “certain things” of interest to my buddy “Bob” are left to the reader’s imagination. And you’re married, “Bob” – For shame!)
