RNS Quote of the Day: 11/22/06

The most important ways in which I think the internet will affect the big issue is that it will make it more difficult for the government to collect taxes.

Milton Friedman

Amen brother!

I wonder if the leftists who celebrated the Dem win a couple weeks back will be cheering when said party sits down and legislates tax collection on internet tubes?

Newsflash!!

Unions have their own best interests in mind: Not yours (even if you are a member) and definitely not the nation’s.

About 1,000 nonunion workers, mostly Hispanics upset with the recent firing of immigrants for allegedly providing false documents, walked off their jobs at a Smithfield Foods Inc. slaughtering plant, a union spokeswoman said.

About 300 workers were protesting this morning outside the plant in Tar Heel, N.C., said Libby Manly, a representative of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union, which helped organize the protest and has been trying for years to form a union at the plant. The plant is considered the world’s largest hog slaughtering plant.

(snip)

Smithfield spokesman Dennis Pittman said the company was only complying with a request from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to gather the names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth and gender of workers at the plant. About 600 workers were found to have unverifiable information. The company fired about 75 people for providing false information, he said.

When the unions look at illegal aliens they do not see lawbreakers, they see dollar signs. They know that someone in the country illegally is as easily manipulated by them as they are by under-the-table employers.

Maybe Now

The aliens will want to do more than just probe him.

With the Dem takeover of Congress, space-case Representative Dennis Kucinich is about to get a promotion.

With Democrats winning control of the U.S. House of Representatives, U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich, D-10, is in a position to become chairman of the powerful Subcommittee on National Security, Veterans Affairs and International Relations.

Kucinich, the ranking Democrat on the subcommittee where foreign policy legislation is generated, is likely to play a much larger role on everything from the nation’s policies on fighting terrorism to the war in Iraq.

OK, that actually frightens me. I would demand a live video satellite feed as proof that the guy can tie his shoes (and that the shoes are left/right specific and unmarked) before I would believe he is capable of it. Because he certainly isn’t capable of rational thought.

Adam Plumondore — On Her Shoulders

…a new photojournal piece by Walt Gaya about Adam’s Mom.

I never met Adam Plumondore; I only heard about him from just about everyone I met at Boomershoot in 2005. Walt Gaya of course knew him very well, and it shows in the writing.

When I’m right, I’m right

A while back I wrote a piece about the folly of hydrogen fuel. I was mainly basing my post on my knowledge of the internal combustion engine and how H doesn’t work well in that type of mill like other, currently used fuels.

But did they listen? Nope.

BMW is manufacturing the first series of hydrogen fueled cars. They’re not as green as they seem. For a start, they’re incredibly thirsty — and they will put more strain on the environment than a heavy diesel truck.

(snip)

Starting in March, the car will be delivered to about 100 celebrities, but so far BMW is keeping mum about their names or what their leasing rates might be. The car’s developers are hoping to gain insight into the practical reliability of a technology many consider the be all and end all of the car industry’s ecologically clean and climate friendly future.

The Munich-based company is promising “sustainable mobility and sheer joy of driving,” citing the car’s 260 horsepower, 12-cylinder engine. The Hydrogen 7’s standard combustion engine has been adapted to run on both liquid hydrogen and regular gasoline as well — and tons of it. The company says the car will consume an average of 13.9 liters (3.7 gallons) per 100 kilometers (roughly 17 miles per gallon) using regular gasoline and a whopping 50 liters to drive the same distance when fuelled by hydrogen.

In other words, BMW has created an energy-guzzling engine that only seems to be environmentally friendly — a farcical ecomobile whose only true merit is that of illustrating the cardinal dilemma of a possible hydrogen-based economy.

So BMW, one of the world’s leading automotive innovators, has created an internal combustion engine that will run on either petrol or H. Amazingly enough, it will only get 35-40% of the fuel milage on H that it does on petrol. Hmm, I think I could have told them that.

Kyle of South Park fame once said “What the fuck is wrong with German people?!” I believe that I have an answer: They’re European.

You see, while fully able to do wonderous things with technology and machines, they treasure words and style over substance. It is the same disease that infects the American leftist community.

To wit,

The problem is that hydrogen is in scarce supply and producing it requires vast amounts of energy. Climate-friendly production of liquid hydrogen on a large scale presupposes a virtually unlimited supply of ecologically produced electricity — not something likely to materialize in the near future. That’s why energy experts from the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy believe forcing the transition to a hydrogen-based economy within the next three to four decades is “not an ecologically sound” idea.

Storing the volatile energy source also requires energy and money. The only method that promises a reasonable storage life is liquid storage at temperatures below -253 degrees Celsius (-423 degrees Fahrenheit). The process of cooling the storage facility down to such a low temperature alone uses up to one-third of the energy contained in one fuel tank.

So, even with a fuel cell vehicle, your fuel has a high potential to be more polluting to the environment than the manufacture of gasoline or diesel, and unless you deeply refrigerate your on-board supply of H, you lose half of your efficiency.

Hmm, I wonder what kind of environmentally unfriendly refrigerants will have to be put into automobiles to make them fuel sustainable?

2 whole Kilometers per Liter. 1K per L if your supply isn’t stored properly. Fooking stoopid enviroweenies.

If you noticed in the first excerpted portion, BMW will be handing these out to “status holders” first. Captain Ed, who found this article, had this to say about that:

At least they picked their initial target market shrewdly. They plan to sell the first one hundred H-7s to “celebrities”, the only people silly and rich enough to bother with the vehicle.

I cannot wait to see my first one of these here in the eco-wonderland that is Seattle. I am so going to laugh my ass off at the person who steps out of it.

Book Review

Not from me, though I am currently thoroughly enthralled with Boston T. Party’s Gun Bible.

No, this one is by the Grouchy Old Cripple, who received a copy of “How the Left Was Won” by Richard Mgrdechian a while back and wants to tell you about it.

This book is about the various methods the Left employs to try and transform society into their vision of a socialist utopia.

Before reading this book, it would help to know sumpin’ about Antonio Gramschi. Scroll down until you come to the part about him. What is important to know about Gramschi is that he felt that a violent Marxist/Leninist revolution would fail. Instead he advocated a gradual revolution involving infiltration and subversion of institutions.

C.Gradual revolution: infiltrate, Co-opt, Subvert

Infiltrate the State: elective & appointed office; judgeships

Infiltrate the military: enlist & subvert from within

Infiltrate justice: undermine and discredit state constitutions

Infiltrate education: professors & administrators

Infiltrate & discredit religion: scoundrels as clergymen

Register, then license, then confiscate all privately held weapons

D.Form or infiltrate international organizations to promote goals such as “global understanding,” “economic development,” “transfer of resources”

Holy crap! Does this stuff sound familiar or what?

What Mgrdechian does in this book, is show us many of the methods that liberals use to follow Gramschi’s handbook.

Yep, this one goes to the top of my Christmas List

Vermicious Knids

Amazingly, or maybe coincidentally, I only just saw the movie “V for Vendetta” this weekend.

However, I have a feeling that this group of people have seen it dozens, if not hundreds, of times since it came out in theaters

Vs-at-Capital-mid.jpg

On November 6, 2006, a lone man in a “V” mask and clothing visited security checkpoints at the White House, the main Treasury Building, the Department of Justice and the Capitol, to deliver a letter and the Petitions for Redress. A short videotape of the encounters has made its way around the Internet, including links from sites such as MySpace.com.

The letter informed the leaders of the Executive and Legislative branches of the federal government that up to 100 people in “V” masks and clothing would gather in silent vigil at those locations on November 14th to await a response to the Petitions for Redress.

True to his word, at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, November 14, 2006, nearly 100 men and women in “V” masks and clothing could be seen walking along different streets in downtown Washington, DC, all heading to Lafayette Park across Pennsylvania Avenue from the White House.

I have to laugh because, according to what I was able to draw from the movie, what the character V believes is nothing anywhere close to the liberal or progressive philosphy. Yet due to their derangement syndrome, they compare the Bush Administration to the government in the story/movie and are able to spout off hullaballo they most likely do not even understand. Maybe they will be able to get 1000 people to protest but I doubt it for one simple reason:

The Dems won the day after this protest.

Their proposed protest site is the Treasury, which is run by the Congress, very soon to be in Dem control.

But the funniest part is this, their hi-jacked persona of Guy Fawkes is famous for his attempt to demolish the Parlimentary building. Now that the Dems have won control of our version of Parliment, will they be able to keep up the gag and be taken seriously by people who know their history?

Oh wait, the liberals have destroyed the education system. No one knows this history.

Toyota Finally Did It…

…they made a real full-size pickup!

Buried in the promotional ad in my mailbox today (below) is the news that the 2007 Tundras will be available with a double-cab AND 8.1-foot pickup bed.

About freakin’ time, I say.

Toyota sells something like one-sixth the number of pickups as Ford or GM, and I’m pretty sure a big part of it is that Toyota never made a four-seater version that could also hold a standard sheet of plywood in the bed without resorting to bed extender doohickeys.

Until now, that is.

 Tundra 2007.jpg

Anyway, once these babies hit the well-used market in a few years, I’m getting one. Toyotas just don’t break.
