OK, well that sucked

Don’t know why and I don’t know how, but my connection to this intarweb thingy has been as reliable at getting my posts up as Bush was with vetoing pork-filled budgets in his first 6 years in office.

As of Friday morning it has been up and down, but usually down. I got through a little bit Saturday night to do some financial stuffings, and then down it went. It has been up for over six hours this morning though, so let us all hope that Comcast has cleaned the end of the digital cable plug after they pulled it out of their ass and plugged it into the proper connection port.

Blogging shall commence immediately.

Tis a Pity He is Irrelevant

Actually, I’m RATher relieved that news anchors no long hold as much sway over the TV watching public as this jackass did, so the post title is untrue.

In fact, these days Cronkite is so insignificant, you quite probably were lucky enough to have missed his teaming up with David Krieger, President of the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation, and “issuing a statement” demanding retreat from Iraq.

Ill link to it, but I’m not gonna quote it, mostly because I care for your sanity. That and because it is the same old drivel The Other Side has been spewing since March 2003.

However, I’d like to say that, due to my lack of intarweb connectivness over the weekend that it was hard drive housekeeping time and I spent a decent number of hours looking through old files before clearing them away.

Not only are the drool-points that Cronkite and Krieger posted the exact same things I was reading from those 12 and 18 month old posts, but when I finally got the web back I had to re-read their post to make sure the leftoid site I found it at had gottent heir days mixed up.

Also, I found a number of posts from almost exactly a year ago that never made it to the front page here at RNS. I’d just like to say that from what the leftosphere was writing back then, if they’d have known then just what a bunch of cowardly turds they had elected, they’d have most likely committed mass suicide.

Oh sure, three were a few pessimists in the bunch, but it is an easy 5-or-6 to one ratio of gloating happy-jacks, bragging about how the nation had finally awoken from it’s idiocy. I found more than a few who had predicted that Bush would be impeached and/or that there would be no US soldiers in Iraq by today. I even found one asshole who hoped that it would be because of a massive killing spree by Iraqis that forced our withdrawal.

They Wouldn’t Have Stopped the Zeros in 1941

Gunship1-w.jpgbut I’d guess these fully-autonomous robot helicopters with 300-rpm automatic shotguns are just the first step towards a fleet of 24/7 robot aircraft that actually could prevent an aerial assault on a sensitive target like Pearl Harbor — or, say, the Pentagon.

Gee, what could we call this fleet — I’m thinking something catchy like “SkyNet.”
On a completely unrelated note, the Sarah Connor Chronicles start up in January.

It’s a good thing

That the Heartless Libertarian went east, because otherwise he’d probably be dealing with this.

(all pics are click for bigger)

That is a picture of Exit 82 over I-5 in Chehalis, Washington.

No worries here, that is not me in any way shape or form. I know that we flood here a lot and live on top of a big hill.

The dirt under these houses, on these other hand, is some of the most fertile on the west coast, precisely because of floods such as this one.

Flood3.jpg

Btw, I’m not trying to mock them by saying that.

Here’s another shot, this one of Exit 77 where the tractor-trailers are stuck waiting for the waters to recede.
Flood2.jpg
I sure am glad that this month’s gun show was last weekend because the fairgrounds aren’t too far out of the left hand margin of this shot.

Flood4.jpg

They just opened I-5 this morning for commercial vehicles (read: tractor-trailers and/or trucks tall enough to ford 2ft of water).

But I think it is going to take a bit to fix up this kind of damage.

Flood1.jpg

Of course, some folks up here are screaming “Global Warming!!! AHHH!!!”, neverminding that this sort of thing happens just about every single decade.

Others are yelling at Olympia, where the money flows from. Raising this stretch of the Interstate has been “planned” for some years now, but for some reason, “Light Rail” or some sort of “transit” project in the King/Pierce/Snohomish Tri-County area always gets to play with the money.

I say “play with” because you folks are paying for the installation of our current mass transit system.

Thanks. And yes, the wet-suits are uncomfortable.

Takin’ a Trip

lg_plumbstead2.jpgLast year, my Mom (who is doing just fine after her neck surgery) won a raffle! By joining the local PBS station, she was entered to win a prize through Women & Wine for a a wine tasting and a multi-course dinner with multiple flights of wine pairings at the Wine Cask restaurant in Santa Barbara, and a two-night stay in North America’s only AAA five-diamond Bed and Breakfast Inn, the Simpson House.

Well, the prize expires at the end of 2007, and when my Mom realized that after the surgery she’d be walking around with a neck brace and forbidden to drive until early 2008, she gave the prize to my wife for her birthday.

So we’re off tomorrow morning to put the dogs in their kennel (I’ll try to post a link to the camera late Saturday), then head down I-5 to Tulare to visit my wife’s family, and then it’s off to Santa Barbara!

At least the rooms all have fireplaces that you can use. The Bay Area Air Quality Management District’s threatening to start fining people who light fires on “Spare the Air” days, which can be up to a third of the days in winter when, you know, you’d probably want to start a fire. I wouldn’t care except we have a next-door neighbor with asthma who freaks out as soon as he smells our woodsmoke.
So I’ve been fire-deprived lately. I’ll probably have that bad boy lit and going 24 hours as soon as we check in.
That’s life in California for ya. Y’all behave yourselves while I’m out.

Best Gun Story I’ve Ever Read in the Mainstream Media

And it’s about a woman who went through hell and came out with a CCW.

And she’s now a Bersa Thunder .380 owner, I might add.

The Soundboard: The Group Dynamic

First, an announcement: Next week there will be a pause in The Group Dynamic posts to make way for the annual RNS Bagpipe Christmas tunage. The Soundboard: TGD will resume the week of New Years with something special.

But this week were gonna come back to the Pacific NW for our “Group”.

The first album on display dropped in 1988 and was huge. It wasn’t quite so large as to be issued by the Washington State DMV when residents were renewing their licenses, like what happened in Texas in 1983, but it was damn close.

Queensryche hit the world with Operation: Mindcrime and never looked back. And you know that when the guys from Rush run out and buy an album, you’ve got a winner.

Eyes of a Stranger

They followed that with their multiplat disc, Empire, which scored them chart success. Of course, we locals always had one track we could dedicate to our wimminfolk no matter what their name, time of year, or other odd circumstance (nice and handy).

Jet City Woman

They just put out a new album of rather curious covers just last month titled “Take Cover”. I’m still going through it and deciding which one is my favorite. Listening to a guy with a 4-octave vocal range cover The Police’s “Syncronicity II” and Pink Floyd’s “Welcome to the Machine” takes some getting used to.

Some would call it a bitchslap

But I find that description just too friendly.

Megan McArdle completes an Atomic Bodyslam on Naomi Wolf and her insipid explanation of the 2nd Amendment.

No need for quotes. Just go read.

Well now

Gonna have to do somehting about this here.

RNS reader Darrell, who isn’t even in Washington State, tipped me to this attempted take-away of use of public land planned for tomorrow.

From the NRA_ILA

The Washington Fish & Wildlife Commission will be considering a proposal on Friday, December 7, that would make it easier to prohibit recreational shooting on land controlled by the Department of Fish & Wildlife (DFW). This Port Angeles public meeting will be the last of a series of hearings that have been held this summer and fall to consider many issues regarding public conduct on DFW land.

Unless there is an outpouring of comments in opposition to the proposed rules in the next two days, the Commission is likely to rubberstamp the proposal that will be before them this Friday. The proposed rule, WAC 232-13-130 (1) (b), would authorize the DFW to prohibit the discharge of firearms on any or all portions of Department land at any time and for any (or no) reason. Without public input, DFW could shut down any of their land by merely posting signs. In the future, they MAY designate limited areas open for limited shooting under WAC 232-13-130 (2).

Further, the proposal would create an arbitrary 1000-foot diameter no-shooting area around every designated campground.

Finally, proposed WAC 232-13-130 (1) (c) would make it unlawful to fail to remove expended shell casings and other target shooting debris after shooting activities. NRA requests to add a “good faith effort” or “due diligence” standard to the clean-up language have been ignored. What that means is that a shooter who makes a legitimate attempt to clean up after his target practice session, but only finds 98 of the 100 shell casings he fired, is subject to sanctions for “littering.”

And therein lies the crux of the reason this legislation is coming down. Too many shooters are going out to use these public lands and making a mess of the place, not picking up after themselves, and the state employees have tired of cleaning up after them.

I don’t know why someone would tease an agency that is known to be anti-use of their property like that, but it is too late to say were sorry now.

Washingtonians, you know what to do.
