Say goodbye to the Star Spangled Banner

After watching those creepy kids yesterday, I’ve lost all doubt that a Democratic supermajority in Congress would hesitate to make this our new National Anthem

“Bombs bursting in air” is just so violent, which is not how the Obamessiah would like his new possession to be portrayed, don’t ya know

Thanks to Headmistress SondraK and JR for finding this song, though not this actual video. It really is the best version of the tune evar.

RNS Quote of the Day: 10/01/08

Dowdification of self

It was disappointing because I didn’t think John McCain would ever be as dismissive of the First Amendment as Dick Cheney.

Maureen Dowd

McCain’s capaign staffers gave her the boot from the press plane, and now she’s all weepy about it.

I notice that she has yet to write a single word about the Obama “Truth Squads”, whose entire reason for being is to squelch the free speech of ordinary citizens. Frankly, I think the world could do with one less pro-Obama media harpy.

Spread the Word

And today, for once, the word is not “Her Legs”.

The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Ownership has a handy-dandy giude to the Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates, and I am of the belief that it needs to be heralded as far and wide and blogospherically possible.

Send it to your neighbors, friends and loved ones who may be sitting on the fence. Let them discover who trusts them and who sees them as an adult and not a child who needs to be sheltered.

Or, if nothing else, send it to the Obama/Biden campaign. I want to see their “Truth Squads” go after the Brady Bunch.

I was wondering when they’d get around to this

I’ve never used a navigation system. I have “Map Skills” that include being able to memorize San Francisco and its burbs in just over two hours. You could call it the “Marcel Marceau” version of personal navigation.
But I might have to buy one in the not too distant future

“Left at the next exit you will turn,” or so we imagine none other than Jedi Master Yoda telling us as we attempt to pilot our land speeders toward some unknown destination. You can now download Yoda as the voice of your TomTom or Garmin GPS unit courtesy of a company named PigTones and a fee of $12.97.

There are 19 others offered at this link, some of them won’t be safe for your “baby on board”.

I’ll be waiting for Samuel L. Jackson to reprise his role of FBI Agent Neville Flynn for my NavSystem

“Take a muthafuckin’ a left at the muthafuckin’ intersection!”

Here Comes the Recession

No, this has nothing to do with the financial markets. It’s the fundamentals. Lots of charts at Econoday — go read:

The 11 prior negative readings correspond exactly with the 11 recessions, so far, of the post-war period. If the economy doesn’t fall into recession during the third quarter, it will be the first time that negative year-on-year change has not corresponded with recession.

Am I missing something?

Please excuse me while I clear some thoughts and some links.

The Democrats and their minions are angry at the Republicans for not helping pass a bill that only a distinct minority of Americans supported.

Quite literally, the Air America flatulators were screaming “Why won’t you guys vote for this bill that no one wants!?!” into their mics for hours yesterday. Even the flatulators themselves didn’t want to see it passed, but they couldn’t bring themselves to take aim at those with (D)’s after their names who voted for it, so they went after the guys who agree with them who have (R)’s after their names, I guess because they made the (D)’s look bad or something.

I keep hearing that the Repubs didn’t come up with “their share” of votes or something and that it is either McCain’s or Boehner’s fault. Why is it never Pelosi’s fault for not coming up with enough votes?

I’ve been leaving messages at my various leftosphere haunts that essentially say: “You guys polished this turd. It goes on your mantle. Deal with it.”

This isn’t rocket science here. Rasmussen has polled this bill, and 33% are for it, 32% are against it, and 35% don’t care enough to want to know about it. The Repubs didn’t say they were getting peckish or anything, and yet the Dems tossed down this shit sandwich on the table, on a dirty plate no less, and now they’re pissed that the Repubs won’t eat it up and ask for another one?

Rumor has it that someone in the House (with less free space between their ears than most) is asking for a Capital Gains tax cut before they’ll even think about letting it hit the floor for a vote. Poll that idea, Rasmussen.

Coburn even went out and stated that there is no guarantee that the feces will be forcibly rotated if the bill isn’t passed or that the fan will magically be turned off if it does pass.

So my advice to the Republicans is to whip out their best British accent and speak the famous words of Sir Lawrence Olivier: “What is my motivation here?”

Pain in the Ass

Sunday’s PJ O’Rourke column gives us some grave news

I looked death in the face. All right, I didn’t. I glimpsed him in a crowd. I’ve been diagnosed with cancer, of a very treatable kind. I’m told I have a 95% chance of survival. Come to think of it — as a drinking, smoking, saturated-fat hound — my chance of survival has been improved by cancer.

…

I have, of all the inglorious things, a malignant hemorrhoid. What color bracelet does one wear for that? And where does one wear it? And what slogan is apropos? Perhaps that slogan can be sewn in needlepoint around the ruffle on a cover for my embarrassing little doughnut buttocks pillow.

Furthermore, I am a logical, sensible, pragmatic Republican, and my diagnosis came just weeks after Teddy Kennedy’s. That he should have cancer of the brain, and I should have cancer of the ass … well, I’ll say a rosary for him and hope he has a laugh at me. After all, what would I do, ask God for a more dignified cancer? Pancreatic? Liver? Lung?

Still the same old funnyman. Let’s all hope he does as well as he expects.

First!

Must be all those bigoted bitter clingers

Gov. Phil Bredesen has appointed East Tennessee Court of Appeals Judge Sharon Lee to a seat on the state Supreme Court.

The appointment means that women will hold three of the five seats on the Tennessee Supreme Court – the first women have held a majority on the state’s highest court.

I also point this out because this appointment makes Tennessee the first state in the nation to have a majority of women in the highest court.

Even The Lightworker wouldn’t have thought of that.

Doing it proper

Sounds like someone who would hang out at RNS

Shakespeare’s Juliet famously wonders: “What’s in a name?”

Come to find out, a lot.

Missoula County learned that lesson the hard way when it inadvertently approved a road name that basically told folks where to stick it.

Tom Porter was more than a little miffed with Missoula County for making him go through subdivision review to put a trailer on his property, and then for making him install fire sprinklers in it.

Also by order of the county, Porter had to name the forever-nameless road leading up to his house. His address had always been Pulp Mill Road.

So Porter creatively chose “SIUYA Lane,” insisting that it meant a Japanese flower.

However, a Google search of the name doesn’t produce frilly photos of small delicate plants, but rather a popularly used insult in the texting world. (Look it up for yourself.)

The road sign wasn’t up one day before neighborhood kids stole it.

Mr. Porter, you’re welcome here any time. I may even owe you a beer or two on my next trip through ‘Tana.
