No, actually, I’ve got Man Skills.
At least 80 of them. If I did more woodworking, I’d have closer to 90 of them.

Well you’ll all have heard of the attempt to bail-out the US Banking sector to the tune of $700bn. Doesn’t look too big like that does it? It’s quick and easy to say and I typed it using six just characters.
But what does $700,000,000,000 actually look like? A US dollar bill is 66.294×155.956×0.10922mm and weighs 1g. So lets play around and see what that means if you have 7 with 11 zeros afterwards portraits of Washington. Well it would make for an interminable art gallery for a start. If you glanced at each portrait for a mere five seconds it would be nearly 111,000 years before you got to the cafe for much needed refreshments.
Or, if bored at looking at 700 billion George Washingtons, you just stacked them up on on top of each other you’d get a pile about 76,454 km tall. That’s about 47,000 miles or approximately a fifth of the distance to the moon.
Say you decide instead to go horizontal, and not vertical, it turns out a dollar bill is near as damn it 1/100 of a square metre so you’ve got 7 billion square metres or 2700 square miles of “tiling†available. That’s enough to do an area the size of the Palestinian territories and São Tomé and PrÃncipe (the second smallest country in Africa) with some left over.
But enough of this one and two dimensional frivolity. What’s all that wonga look like in a bloody big cubic block? Well, it’s a cubic block 91.6m on each side or near as damn it 300 ft wide, 300 ft deep and 300 ft high. That definitely is in the arena of the bloody gigantic.
If it ever comes time to stop playing with this cash and return it to the US tax-payer (it’s their money it is afterall) you’re gonna need some serious transportation because that quantity of cash would require 23197 8′x8′6″x40″ ISO containers. The World’s largest container ship, the M/V Emma Mærsk, can carry 7600 such containers. So you need to load her up a smidgen over 3 times. On dry land that would make for a stately procession of double stack freight cars about 100 miles long. Chugging along at a steady 33mph that could leave you waiting at a level-crossing for three hours which is a lot longer than it takes to glibly say, “700 billion dollarsâ€.It’s all just a matter of perspective.
My most humble apologies to Nick. I just couldn’t find a way to neatly excerpt that.
You haven’t been paying attention.
An e-mail distributed by a Virginia teachers union encouraged members to bring politics into the classroom by wearing blue in support of Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama and simultaneously suggested that the union’s voter registration efforts include those “you teach.”
The Virginia Education Association (VEA) e-mail drew strong criticism Wednesday from elected Republican officials and some residents after the state Republican Party obtained a copy. The author of the e-mail conceded Wednesday that the e-mail should have been worded differently.
The only thing I find surprising is that it appears that the VEA actually believed that they didn’t have even a single non-lemming on the rolls?
The kids need education, but all the unions are interested in is indoctrination.
Under an Obama Administration, with the unions getting a seat on the big leather couch in the Oval Office, this will be happening in our nation’s schools
Earlier this year, Bill Henson was a national punching bag, vilified as a child pornographer and denounced by political leaders. His photographs of naked children were seized by police and stripped from gallery walls. It seemed not out of the question that one of the nation’s most honoured photographers might end up in jail.
….
The Henson uproar was provoked by the picture of a naked 12-year-old girl on the invitation to his show at the Roslyn Oxley9 Gallery in Sydney in May. Within hours of the picture being denounced by the Herald’s Miranda Devine and Sydney radio station 2GB, police shut the gallery. They seized 32 pictures. The Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, condemned Henson’s photographs as “absolutely revolting”.
….
Most of his models come from his own world. “Sometimes it’s a friend, or the kids of a friend, or a friend of a friend. Sometimes it can be a friend of a relative. Sometimes you are walking down the street or you are in a restaurant and you see someone. There is this face. All you can do is give them a card and say: ‘Look, just Google me, and I’d be very interested in photographing your daughter or son.’ ”
Henson was having trouble finding the models he needed for the Sydney exhibition due to open in May. Friends introduced him to the principal of a Melbourne primary school. This wasn’t, by any means, the first time he had been invited into schools in his search for models.
“Hey, Mr. & Mrs. Taxpayer. Your child’s needs some new text books. This deal with this photographer could be lucrative for the school. He is also willing to pay you all for your troubles, and you do want little Billy to go to college, right?”
Sick fucking bastards.
Jim Rawles has been calling the FedGov’s actions the MOAB, or Mother of All Bailouts.
Here’s more doom-n-gloom: Up Next: the Mother of All Bank Runs — a run on the US banking system by foreign investors.
What’s interesting is the idea that investors are fleeing to the security of the dollar and US Treasuries — but they don’t want these assets sitting in US banks….
Well, despite all the good advice in the world, the Senate went and decided that bending us over a table was the easiest way out of that which they legislated us into.
So, in honor of the temper tantrum that Wall Street will very likely throw tomorrow to show us that they’re serious about wanting some free money
Black Friday – Steely Dan
And because The Street won’t learn and will again let the government pinch while promising to give them free money if the pinch hurts too bad
Do it again – Steely Dan
And also because it is a 1972 performance that is ripe.
Enjoy!

If you’re one of those take-no-prisoners off-road types, then we’ve found the perfect camper trailer for you. It’s called the Tvan, and it’s made by Track Trailer. The company, Australian-based and located outside Melbourne, has been in business since 1982. Their Tvan model is specially engineered to eliminate the problems found with conventional flip-over type campers.
……….
As Track is experienced building military trailers, much of their heavy-duty technology finds its way into the Tvan. Features such as an asymmetric link suspension with Koni shock absorbers, 10 inches of wheel travel, and a 30-degree departure angle allow the trailer to follow the tow vehicle over nearly every terrain. With a hot dip galvanized steel frame, it is also built to take abuse and last. Of course, the kitchen appointments are stainless steel with abundant power outlets, lights, and ventilation to take the edge off of roughing it. It even comes with a 70-liter “food grade” water tank as standard equipment.
Take a look at these

There are a few more here.
Sadly, the company isn’t yet shipping across the Int’l Date Line, All the more reason to have friends in Oz.
Here is the Track Trailer website.
And here is a link to King Kampers and Adventure Trailers.
While those last two are built in America, I must admit that I like the design of Tvan more.
Stupidity in Motion
Obama can’t lose this election to John McCain. McCain has turned himself into a punch line. But a lot of the house members whose arms Obama is twisting are likely to pay the price for him. Likewise in 2010 Obama is setting himself up for huge reverses in Congress, then in 2012 he will become a one term president. The smart move at this point would be to put up a good bill that helps Main Street, let the Republicans defeat it if they chose and then fight the election on it. Why not? If Obama can twist arms for the Paulson bill, why not for a good bill?
Interesting question, isn’t it?

More proof that they really see Obama as some sort of Messiah, instead of what he truly is: A Politician.
And I can only hope that if he does get enough dead and or make believe people to vote for him that he will only be a one term executive.
She insults and/or scares islamo-pukes with her womanity. Or something.
With some overly friendly comments to Gov. Sarah Palin at the United Nations, Asif Ali Zardari has succeeded in uniting one of Pakistan’s hard-line mosques and its feminists after a few weeks in office.
A radical Muslim prayer leader said the president shamed the nation for “indecent gestures, filthy remarks, and repeated praise of a non-Muslim lady wearing a short skirt.”
Feminists charged that once again a male Pakistani leader has embarrassed the country with sexist remarks. And across the board, the Pakistani press has shown disapproval.
What did President Zardari do to draw such scorn? It might have been the “gorgeous” compliment he gave Ms. Palin when the two met at the UN last week during her meet-and-greet with foreign leaders ahead of Thursday’s vice presidential debate with opponent Sen. Joe Biden, the Democratic vice presidential nominee.
But the comments from Zardari didn’t end there. He went on to tell Palin: “Now I know why the whole of America is crazy about you.”
“You are so nice,” replied the Republican vice presidential hopeful, smiling. “Thank you.”
But what may have really caused Pakistan’s radical religious leaders to stew was his comment that he might “hug” Palin if his handler insisted.
Though the fatwa, issued days after the Sept. 24 exchange, carries little weight among most Pakistanis, it’s indicative of the anger felt by Pakistan’s increasingly assertive conservatives who consider physical contact and flattery between a man and woman who aren’t married to each other distasteful. Though fatwas, or religious edicts, can range from advice on daily life to death sentences, this one does not call for any action or violence.
Yeah, right. No violence from these throwbacks to the 6th Century? They set shit on fire over cartoons.
And speaking of Palin, in all the talk about the debate happening tonight I’ve missed something that I heard quite a bit of before the McCain-Obama debate last week: That just by not screwing up too badly, Obama would win.
Is it just some odd double standard that Palin doesn’t get that kind of consideration?
I thought the line was bullshit when they were saying it about Obama, and don’t really want anyone in the national media to be flapping their lips with this crap on her, but I do find it strange that not one single media voice has let this idea escape their teeth.
The mighty Antonio Banuelos, in a lot better fighting form than in his televised Vegas debacle this past June, pounded the snot out of a much taller opponent the other night and won a nice purse. Yay Antonio! More pics (by my other nephew) here!

Also worth reading: It’s not a bailout: it’s the dollar’s credibility.
I hope Congress passes this fucker soon. I don’t WANT to live through a depression, thankyouverymuch.
UPDATE: Here’s an excellent discussion on how we got where we are. (It leaves out the Fannie/Freddie angle, but otherwise is spot-on).
