Israel Kamakawiwo Ole’s version of this song makes me smile and just feel “good” every time I hear it. The most meaningful and heartfelt playing of this was at a dear friends memorial service where pictures of his many life accomplishments were displayed in unison with this uplifting music.

But I must agree with you – not appropriate for what you’re talking about here.
Hands down we have the best national anthem on Earth. It is also a historical narrative on the birth of our nation, something that the left seems to despise so much these days.
On a secondary note, the Russian (Soviet?) national anthem sounds pretty bad ass. I have no idea what they are singing but when they do that whole 1000 men bellowing it out at the same time… well, it just enforces my belief that they are FAR from being “out of the fight”.
