Another Closeout Scope Deal

I love the Ballistic Plex reticle; reticles of this type have all sorts of uses beyond just giving you four additional drop points. I played with the lighted version at SHOT 2010 and loved it. Couldn’t justify the higher price though — until this discount….

Disability King
Modern version of the classic welfare queen but it will make you angrier.
We are visiting relatives in the Central Valley. If you read Victor Davis Hanson’s recent column about how this area has deteriorated, well, that’s what my wife fled to college to escape.
The goldmine in that environment is the mental-disability social services support system. As in, “Oh, she’s got money; her man gets a crazy check.”
I was chatting with a distant relative last night. He is a methhead with a long felony record, but never spent more than 13 months at a time for any of his convictions due to parole, probation, etc. In one case he got six years for seven felonies and then got out in six months by wangling his way into a drug rehab program.
Anyway, he is now due to get a $40,000 check because he is permanently disabled from all his meth use. Merry Christmas indeed! On top of that, he will get a $1700 / month disability check and another $1100 / month from his union for the rest of his life due to his “drug disability.” He is in his mid-fifties. You do the math. Crime pays, big.
Bah, Humbug! doesn’t begin to express my feelings on this one.

Burris Scope at Closeout Price
Looks like Burris discontinued the Signature Select 8-32x44mm rifle scope with fine plex reticle. I used this scope at my first Boomershoot and have three of ’em now; they’re excellent and this is a couple hundred dollars off the most recent price.

Man and the Welfare State
Just a handy reminder, the free pdf of Henry Hazlitt’s excellent and concise Man and the Welfare State by the Mises Institute is, as I said, available free for your holiday reading by the fireplace.

The TSA sucks at stopping guns & explosives
On a related note, for those who think that Wikileaks is evil & must be destroyed, do you think it’s OK that the classified reports on the ineffectiveness of the TSA was leaked? I mean, such information tells a terrorist mastermind how many attempts (and idiots to make those attempts) he has to make to get bombs or guns onto airplanes. This is arguably a lot more damaging to you or me then the leaking of embarrassing diplomatic cables.

RNS Album of the Year
I would like to congratulate Cee Lo Green and his album “The Ladykiller” for winning the honor of becoming the RNS 2010 Album of the Year.
This album is utterly and completely, front to back and side to side, a disc of pure jems. Not a bad track, or even a bad note, on it. If you enjoyed Al Green’s albums from the 1970’s, especially “Let’s Stay Together”, you’ll fall right into “The Ladykiller”, and be quite happy about staying there for a bit.
Cee Lo Green covers nearly the full range of popular R&B styles, from the Double Dynamite of Sam & Dave to Sly and the Family Stone to Barry White to Prince. And he never half-asses it.
I am a bit saddened that he chose to release the the track “Fuck You” (link goes to video) first, since it’ll most likely get the album pigeonholed and most will just buy that track and not the whole album. But that was not my decision.
I would have released this track. If you love your woman as much as I love The Wife, or David loves Mrs. Whitewolf, or Joe love Barb, this “Wildflower” will put you on knee crooning.
The second best song on the album is actually a cover he did of “No One’s Gonna Love You” by Band of Horses (link goes to their video).
If you compare the two tracks you’ll see how he perfected it.
And because I like y’all you can hit the link at the top of this post and snatch up a download of “The Ladykiller” for a mere $5. It’s the best Christmas gift you can give yourself this year.
———-
And now, the runner up:
Say you have a recording studio in your home. Also say that Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour has come over to visit for a couple days and brought some of his guitars with him.
What must you remember to do?
Correct, you must remember to plug in the mics and turn on the recording equipment.
The Orb did exactly this. He then found the choicest cuts and drizzled ambient electronica tunage all over them.
Hit that link above the vid and you’ll find that this album is also just $5 to download.
I hope these will fit in your stockings as they’re the best gifts I can afford to give this year, after tuition.
Enjoy!
———-
Btw, here is Rolling Stone’s “Best of” list for 2010. I’ve printed out 25 copies and have been using them to wipe with. And yes, each time I get more and more pissed off at their shitty list.

Of course
So the WaPo trots out the thoroughly disproven “Mexican Drug Gang Violence is the fault of lax American firearms laws” canard again the other day. Unsurprisingly, the gunbigots over at FireDogLake picked up the story and proudly paraded around in their ignorance with it.
What was slightly surprising though was the swiftness the community over at FDL came a conclusion to as who was tryuly at fault for the drug gang violence:
The Jews!
Ya know, if you?re going to blame the brown people, blame the Israelis that manufacture a lot of the AKs, too.
Kris’ train of thought, if you can call it that, is that the Israelis manufacture Galil rifles, which have a design elements similar to the AK, and since they make a lot of them, those must be the AK’s being found being used by the drug gangs in Mexico.
Yeah, I know that that level of stupid usually causes flash cavitation, but somehow he survived it.
