RNS Album of the Year

I would like to congratulate Cee Lo Green and his album “The Ladykiller” for winning the honor of becoming the RNS 2010 Album of the Year.

This album is utterly and completely, front to back and side to side, a disc of pure jems. Not a bad track, or even a bad note, on it. If you enjoyed Al Green’s albums from the 1970’s, especially “Let’s Stay Together”, you’ll fall right into “The Ladykiller”, and be quite happy about staying there for a bit.

Cee Lo Green covers nearly the full range of popular R&B styles, from the Double Dynamite of Sam & Dave to Sly and the Family Stone to Barry White to Prince. And he never half-asses it.

I am a bit saddened that he chose to release the the track “Fuck You” (link goes to video) first, since it’ll most likely get the album pigeonholed and most will just buy that track and not the whole album. But that was not my decision.

I would have released this track. If you love your woman as much as I love The Wife, or David loves Mrs. Whitewolf, or Joe love Barb, this “Wildflower” will put you on knee crooning.

The second best song on the album is actually a cover he did of “No One’s Gonna Love You” by Band of Horses (link goes to their video).

If you compare the two tracks you’ll see how he perfected it.

And because I like y’all you can hit the link at the top of this post and snatch up a download of “The Ladykiller” for a mere $5. It’s the best Christmas gift you can give yourself this year.

And now, the runner up:

Say you have a recording studio in your home. Also say that Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour has come over to visit for a couple days and brought some of his guitars with him.

What must you remember to do?

Correct, you must remember to plug in the mics and turn on the recording equipment.

The Orb did exactly this. He then found the choicest cuts and drizzled ambient electronica tunage all over them.

It is titled Metallic Spheres

Hit that link above the vid and you’ll find that this album is also just $5 to download.

I hope these will fit in your stockings as they’re the best gifts I can afford to give this year, after tuition.

Enjoy!

Btw, here is Rolling Stone’s “Best of” list for 2010. I’ve printed out 25 copies and have been using them to wipe with. And yes, each time I get more and more pissed off at their shitty list.

I agree with Cee-Lo for album of the year, but you already know that. “Fuck You” is a great song…catchy tune in fact, but shouldn’t have been the 1st single. Probably turned off a lot of people.

I read the Rolling Stone choices. It was all the usual crap and one that I didn’t know about. Big Boi put out a solo album? I have to give that one a listen.

Metallic Spheres has a Black NASA feel to it, I might pick it up.
