Congress did something RIGHT?

My man, ex-King County and now Congressman for Washington State’s 8th District, Sherrif Dave Reichert, was named to the House Homeland Security committee on Friday.

Being the #1 cop in the most populated county in the state, I’m pretty sure he has the practical experience to get the job done and already knows most of the folks on the committee and people on the ground.

Good call, Congress.

Reichert is the guy who caught three kids prowling cars in his neighborhood at two in the morning and held them at gun point while he called his deputies on his cell phone.

When they arrived, he was in his bathrobe and slippers and had a snake-light wrapped around his neck.

From what I hear, he still gets ribbed about that one.

And the courts will probably give into him

It’s Canada, after all.

VICTORIA, British Columbia (AP) A homeless man is asserting he is entitled to sleep on the grounds of a historic site in the British Columbia capital, even if he winds up in prison.

David Johnston, 32, pleaded guilty Thursday to violating a probation order banning him from the 21 acres of manicured lawns, fruit trees, flower beds and a gazebo at St. Ann’s Academy. Sentencing was set for next Thursday.

Johnston claims he has a “right to sleep undisturbed in a public-access place” and has not disputed testimony by St. Ann’s officials who say security personnel and groundskeepers have repeatedly removed his furniture, bedding and garbage.

He said Thursday he will continue to disregard probation orders and regulations until a judge agrees that he has a right to sleep peacefully in public places.

This is also known as the “It’s winter in Canada and jail is warmer than the outdoors” plan.

Of course, he says that it is about ‘rights’,

While others may be disturbed by his presence, “that luxurious enjoyment is secondary to my sleep,” he argued.

You know you’re a sicko

When your hooker calls the cops on you.

A hooker turned in a john after she saw disturbing child pornography on the man’s home computer, police said Thursday.

Detective Carlos Negron, police spokesman, said police were contacted by the prostitute two days ago. She told police she went to the suspect’s apartment on the 1800 block of Jefferson Street to service the man and while inside saw numerous pictures of children between the ages of 3 and 16 performing sex.

Too bad she didn’t just pull an Aileen Wournos on the guy. I’d also ask that she put a torch to his place, but he lived in an apartment.

Count ANY Vote: Part Semnadtsat

Alternate Title: The Never Ending Story

Today is the day that the Washington State Republicans are rumored to be filing their lawsuit contesting the certification of Democrat Christine Gregoire as Governor.

The Republican court challenge to Christine Gregoire’s election as governor, expected to be filed today, will center on mishandled provisional ballots in King County and lingering questions about why the county shows more votes counted than people voting on Nov. 2.

The lawsuit also will likely include allegations of votes by dead people and felons, and multiple votes by the same voter. But those issues, while garnering much attention among Rossi supporters in recent days, will be secondary.

And we’ll see how this goes. If there are any developments or decisions handed down today, I should be able to get them to you this afternoon after I wake up for work.

In other legal developments, two citizens beat the Repubs to the punch, filing seperate, and somewhat odd suits yesterday with the state Supreme Court.

Daniel P. Stevens of Fall City sent the court a one-page notice saying he was contesting the election because the margin of victory is within the election’s margin of error, “to the point that error must be assumed as a certainty.”

Arthur Coday Jr. of Shoreline filed an 11-page brief arguing that the hand recount was fatally flawed for several reasons and asking the high court to inaugurate Rossi as governor.

While the article doesn’t come out and say it, Mr Coday’s suit alleges that the state should not take money from political parties to do recounts, due to its nature of coming from special interest groups.

Neither of these men are aligned, in any way that can be seen, with the Republican Party of either King County (where they both live) or with the State of Washington.

Mr. Stevens filed the $250 necessary for filing the lawsuit and gave press interviews yesterday evening. Mr. Corday did neither of those things and since the state hasn’t received his money, his suit is not yet official.

State GOP Chairman, Chris Vance, said that the two filings prove there’s grass-roots support for a new governor’s election.

Hopefully, neither of these two suits will get in the way of the official Republican suit.

From Sound Politics comes the revalation that two registered sex offenders voted in King County.

Remember, most sex offenders are felons and are not allowed to vote unless their voting rights have been reinstated. While Sharkansky does not release the offender’s names, he can find no evidence that said rights have, in fact, been reinstated.

You may also remember from last week that there were approximately 8500 more votes than registered voters. Well, just over 3500 of the were in King County alone.

Last week, when this allegation was brought to light, King County Election Director Dean Logan said that a full, updated list is expected to be complete by the end of next week.

Today is that end of that week and the 3500 vote gap is still present.

Soooo, Logan now says that all election numbers are historically mismatching and that there is nothing odd about this discrepancy.

Sadly for Mr. logan, with a 129 vote difference, playing government style horeshoes and handgrenades with vote tallys is not acceptable.

Hopefully, the state Supreme Court will follow this line of logic as well.

And now is the time we need good, solid and NEW governance.

Gregoire has not even been sworn in and the Dems are already talking NEW TAXES.

I certainly hope so

From World Net Daily:

Has U.S. threatened to vaporize Mecca?
Intelligence expert says nuke option is reason bin Laden has been quiet

Why hasn’t Osama bin Laden’s terror network executed an attack on U.S. soil since 9-11?

Simple, says Dr. Jack Wheeler, creator of an acclaimed intelligence website dubbed “the oasis for rational conservatives”. The U.S. has threatened to nuke the Muslim holy city of Mecca should the terror leader strike America again.

On his website, To the Point, Wheeler explains how the Bush administration has identified the potential of wiping Mecca off the map as bin Laden’s ultimate point of vulnerability the Damoclean Sword hanging over his head.

I would prefer a real sword, but if this is true, it will do.

“Israel recognizes that the Aswan Dam is Egypt’s Damoclean Sword,” writes Wheeler. “There is no possibility whatever of Egypt’s winning a war with Israel, for if Aswan is blown, all of inhabited Egypt is under 20 feet of water. Once the Israelis made this clear to the Egyptians, the possibility of any future Egyptian attack on Israel like that of 1948, 1967, and 1972 is gone.”

Every Dog Has His Day

I would say that this news is strange, but its from San Francisco.

S.F. planning to unleash dog-care rules
Ordinance would define adequate pooch amenities

In San Francisco, where orphaned animals live in “pet condos” at the SPCA, pet parents are called guardians instead of owners, and well-heeled canines are enrolled in doggie day care, now comes a law mandating more creature comforts for the creatures.

The food: palatable and nutritious. The water: changed at least once a day and provided in a non-tipping bowl. The shelter: big enough for the canine to stand up and turn around in and with a raised floor and dry, clean bedding for when the “ambient temperature falls below that … to which the dog is acclimated.”

But the vote putting it on the table to be approved wasn’t unanimous.

The law passed its first reading this week with an 8-2 vote, with Supervisor Chris Daly absent. Supervisors Michela Alioto-Pier and Aaron Peskin dissented.

“I was reading this, and I thought: Now we’re treating dogs better than we treat the homeless,” Alioto-Pier said.

What, are they giving the dogs $400 a week?

Oh, and dogs don’t choose to become leeches on society. Unlike most of the ‘permanently homeless’ that end up in SF.

And another question, what if a ‘homeless person’ has a dog? Will they be fined for not having the proper accomodations? Because we all know that they won’t be fined for taking a dump in the street.

The ‘homeless person’ I mean.

Tim Blair Gets A Job

As of Monday, I’ll be Assistant Editor (News) at The Bulletin. It’s a full-time office job, the first I’ve had – or seriously considered – since 2000. Various proposals have been discussed over the past few months. One option was a Bulletin-financed blog; another involved managing The Bulletin’s online feed. Yet another involved me running for Parliament, which I shunned due to the possibility of a brutal pay reduction.

He says that this new job may actually lead to MORE blogging.

Canadians Pinch Illinois

You may remember the plan put forth by the state of Illinois and Wisconsin to buy cheap perscription drugs from Canada and sell the to the citizens of their respective states.

Well, Canada is about to put a stop to that.

In a published report Wednesday, David Kay, of the Canadian International Pharmacy Association, said “there’s a very real chance that by the middle of January drugs will not flow from Canada anymore.”

Because capitalism is so foreign to most in Canadian government, they can’t see a quick buck when it slaps them across the face.

Count ANY Vote: Part Shestnadtsat n Dva

Yesterday, in Part 16.1, I told you about David Neiwert’s tale of events on the Washington State Gubernatoria Election and said I would bring it here for a fisking.

I have done just that.

Since I have not yet mastered Textile, his words will be in italics while mine will be in bold.

I have included the links relevant to Mr. Neiwert’s post. Those I have not included can be found in his post, the link to which is below the fold.
