Count ANY Vote: Part Shestnadtsat n Tri

Part 16.3

Karyn Quinlan volunteered to count ballots in the hand recounting of the ballots in King County. She is a Green, but signed up through the Dems (big surprise!). She tells her story of the count here.

The best part is near the end though,

On this last day, I learned something that confounded my notion of what had been going on in the GOP Lounge. That morning I was surprised to see that the Sean Hannity look-alike had also been selected by his party for the final day. In retrospect, I shouldn’t have been. After all, I knew he was a GOP party faithful. He was a precinct officer for his Eastside district and worked on the Rossi campaign. Seeing him for the first time in the nonpartisan break room that morning, I decided to seize the opportunity to ask, “How come I see you going in and out of the GOP Lounge at breaks and lunch?” It was a good question, since counters and observers were explicitly instructed not to talk to one another, and the observer rooms on both sidesDemocrat and Republicanwere supposedly off-limits to ballot counters. But I had personally witnessed several other ballot counters, Ben among them, disappearing inside the GOP Lounge, some even emerging with doughnuts and other tasty contraband. The answer the Sean Hannity look-alike gave me came as a shock.

It was for prayer time, he said barely above a whisper. I had to ask the other people standing with usone other Democratic ballot counter and two Republican ballot countersto confirm what he said. This was something I had never considered. That a political party interested in the results of an election would conduct daily prayers, formally or informally, inside an office building in which the express purpose is to conduct civic business left me speechless. Apparently, because they had paid for the space, they felt entitled to do whatever they wantedor, more precisely, whatever they could get away with. The revelation that prayers were being conducted in the GOP Lounge, together with the fact that the Republican candidate for governor once said he thought creationism should be taught alongside evolution in public schools, gave me a chilling new understanding of the phrase “party faithful.” What I had thought was a contest for governor turned out to be more like a religious war.

What a twit.

The New Free Speech

And folks wonder why we say the UK is decending into madness.

From The New Criterion Blog,

By now you’ve likely heard about Behzti, the play closed in Birmingham, England by a rampaging mob of Sikhs. According to Salman Rushdie, who recently weighed in on the matter, the play “poses some awkward questions about sexual abuse which some Sikh elders may have found difficult to accept.” The response to these “awkward questions” was to destroy the theater, injure several policemen, force the closing of the production, and issue death threats against the play’s (Sikh) author. The response to that was this breathtakingly foolish remark from home office minister Fiona Mactaggart:

“I think that when people are moved by theatre to protest, in a way that is a sign of the free speech which is so much part of the British tradition. I think that it is a great thing that people care enough about a performance to protest.”

Well, if this form of ‘free speech’ ever comes to America, I’m driving straight to the Brady and VPC HQ’s.

I probably care more about their conspiracy to deny me 2nd Amendment rights that those Sihks did about that play.

I cannot remember where I found this, but thanks to whomever you are.

Oliver Willis talks Guns

“You don’t need one gun in your house, let alone two. And we wonder why our society is in moral decay. It ain’t the porn or the rap – it’s the mentality that says you should have implements of death sitting in your night stand.”

And Oliver’s sycophants talk sh*t.

Go read and laugh.

Getting Your Message Out

Drumwaster has posted a pic from his travels around his town yesterday.

It depicts the back end of a truck that has every rear facing surface covered in bumperstickers of almost every leftist slogan on the planet.

My favorite sticker is on the bottom left corner of the truck under the burning man sticker.

It says “Sport Untility Vehicles – Big Wheels for Small Minds”

The reason I love this one is that the truck is a late 90’s Mazda B4000 Xtra-Cab.

A Mazda B4000 XC is the sister ship of the Ford Ranger. And a Ford Ranger is basically a Ford Explorer with a bed instead of a passenger compartment. It may be a bit lighter due to the shorter and lighter body, but it IS, basically, an SUV.

I have always wondered if it was possible to be a fool and a hypocrite at the same time.

Blondie

I don’t really care about Ann Coulter. I think she’s at least 20lbs shy of being attractive and she is always willing to ‘media-whore’ herself at the drop of a hat.

I do, however, like the way just the mention of her name sets lefties hair on fire and how she is always on the attack and generally pretty brutal about things.

Like in this instance,

Liberals Love America Like O.J. Loved Nicole

It’s her newest column. Go read.

Past and Present

Lee at Right Thinking from the Left Coast put up a pair of pictures yesterday.

One was of Hitler Youth giving the one-arm salute.

The other was of ‘palestinian’ Fatah Youth Movement members ALSO giving the same one-arm salute.

But remember, to a large numbers of EU members, the Israelis are ‘the new Nazis’.

And yet the left still actually cares what those people think.

Tell me you didn’t see

“this coming.”:http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,143453,00.html

There was someting very fishy about this story from the outset – I wonder if we’ll ever know the truth of the matter?

Truth or Subterfuge?

Mike at Sworn Enemy finds a report from a Gallup survey that says gun ownership has fallen from 47% of homes in 2000 to just 40% in 2004.

This hit me as a shock, because I know that gun sales skyrocketed in the year after September 11th. As did applications for Concealed Pistol Licenses.

So I ask your opinion, is this the truth or is it a tactic that shows people don’t trust pollsters, and therefore, the government when it comes to their guns?

Count ANY Vote: Part Shestnadtsat n Odin

Translation: Part 16.1

I just want to add this to what I wrote yesterday.

It seems that the Repubs are having a handwriting expert take a look at the signatures on a few selected ballots from King County.

OK, more than just a few.

While preliminary reports say that the expert found over 300 ballots that looked to be signed by the same person, those reports have turned out to be false.

But, according to sources inside the party, they have compared the names of people who voted on Nov. 2 with a list of known felons and have found a “substantial number of illegal votes cast by felons”.

Surprise, surprise. OK, not really.

I am still looking for a link, but I have heard a rumor that King County voter registrars have admitted that they had ‘so many new voters signing up’ that they did not do background checks.

If this is true, once again, the Dems are playing their incompetence right into the Governor’s office.

*********************

Also, local dipshit and blogger, David Neiwert of Orcinus, has put up his version of events on the topic of the ‘Washington State Governor’s Election’ on his site.

You might remember Neiwert from his uber-ignorant “Pseudo Fascism’ diatibe (and my subsequent tearing it down) in November,

Of course, he has been travelling since the 17th of December, but hey, he’s got his news updates, so he flaps his lips and the lefties love it.

I will be going through it shortly and hope to have something of a fisk of it up tomorrow.

Wailing and Gnashing of Teeth

How sad for them….

A handful of House Democrats plan a long-shot effort to snarl President Bush’s formal re-election by preventing Congress from counting Ohio’s pivotal votes when lawmakers tally the electoral vote on Thursday.

No one expects the action to undo Bush’s victory. Instead, it seems likely to do little more than call attention to Election Day voting irregularities, a growing frustration for Democrats who blamed similar problems in Florida for Bush’s 2000 defeat of Democrat Al Gore.
