Just had a call of someone trying to cash a stolen check. Shouldn’t be too hard to solve. The suspect left his inmate ID card there.
Now we have a robbery of a liquor store in a small town of about 600 people. The suspect is a 50 year old male with a long criminal history that has lived in town all his life. Everybody recognized him. He also dropped his day planner.
There was an arrest made in a shooting that occured here a couple of months ago. Just to show you what kind of people we are dealing with here, the suspect had to be interviewed in the hospital. He was sitting at a computer and stuck a gun down his pants. He shot himself through the penis, one testicle and into his thigh. Luckily for him it was a .22 pistol.

Now here’s the deal. You will need to go through a FFL holder to get these guns. What you’ll need to do is find one who will order it for you and then charge you a minimal amount to run it through their books.
Most shops charge you 20% of the price of the item, but locally, I have found a shop that will charge me the cost of the item + S&H + state tax + $25 for paperwork. That works out to about $235 for the K98 and $120 for the 03/38.

Colgate professor in Iraq to research resistance groups
Like many colleagues at Colgate, Victoria Fontan is spending her time between semesters hard at work. For the visiting assistant professor of peace studies, that means trekking halfway around the world and potentially putting herself in harm�s way.
Fontan set out for Iraq at the end of December to study and to interview members of the country�s insurgent organizations. On the way to Baghdad, she conducted research in Beirut and Jordan before negotiating to be �embedded� in one of Iraq�s resistance groups.
Fontan�s academic focus is on political violence in post-conflict situations, and she has conducted field research on the Lebanese Hezbollah, the Basque nationalist group ETA (Euskadi Ta Askatasuna), and various warring factions in post-Saddam Hussein Iraq.
Oh yeah, you can tell that she has an open mind. So open her damn brain has fallen out.
I�m just about sick of American�s equating supporters of a brutal former dictator and terrorists to the Founding Fathers and/or �Resistance Groups� because they are not.
You do not target civilians and get to call yourself a �resistance group�. You do not get to kidnap children and then threaten their parents with their death if the parents do not drive a bomb-laden vehicle and get to be called a �freedom fighter�. As soon as you cut off one persons head while the cameras are rolling, you lose all your credibility and also your license for life.
I dislike wishing harm upon people, but here�s to her ending up in the crossfire when the group she�s �embedded� with attacks a polling station this weekend.

Kathryn Jean Lopez, Inattentive?
I watched the press conference that Lopez speaks about at NRO�s The Corner that is linked to in Wolcott�s post and I do not agree with her description of the events.
“I only saw parts of it so I’m not going to be particularly helpful in relaying specifics–but, wow was he in a good mood. You almost get the impression he enjoys doing these now.�
I don�t know which part she saw, but I watched the entire nearly 45 minute Q&A session and I only saw Bush smile a few times, and that was when he was cracking a couple of jokes when the attitude got too hostile in the room.
The reason I am questioning her attention span is that James Wolcott uses it to bash Bush over the deaths of the Marines in the helicopter crash from earlier that morning.
DUBYA’S ZIPPITY DO-DAH DAY
Ponder that a moment. The White House announces a press conference in the morning. After the announcement comes the news that 31 Americans died in a chopper crash in Iraq (6 others died today in seperate incidents). The president takes the podium fresh with the knowledge of that tragedy–and radiates a cheerful disposition bantering with the press about senior citizens and their faulty memories. She can’t see something scarily wrong with that? She doesn’t spot some sort of emotional disturbance or disconnect? Imagine if Bill Clinton had been chirpy and chipper having just received the news of 31 soldiers dying in the theater of combat–Rush Limbaugh would have devoted three hours to it, and Fox News would have dragged Dick Morris out of the all-you-can-eat buffet for his “expert analysis.”
When Bush did address the soldiers’ deaths, he said that we “weep and mourn” when Americans die, but as he was saying it his hand was flatly smacking downwards for emphasis, as if he were pounding the table during the business meeting, refusing to pay a lot for a muffler. The steady beat of his hand was at odds with the sentiments he was expressing–he didn’t look or sound the least bit mournful or sombre. And why should he? Death doesn’t seem to be a bringdown for him. There isn’t the slightest evidence that he experiences the anguish LBJ did as casualties mounted in Vietnam. His record as chief executioner in Texas is of a man for whom the death of another is an administrative detail, a power exercise.
It sounds as if Wolcott didn�t watch the conference either. Typical for him.
When Bush was getting the general questions from the press, he looked annoyed quite often, as is usual for him. He would try to lighten up the mood every now and then by cracking a joke and even had one reporter who was standing to his right tell him �Now don�t go messing me up� when he restated her question while asking her to clarify her question. All in all, it was tense at times but there were no confrontations.
When Bush spoke about the Marines, he was somber, he spoke of them honorably and he looked as if he was remembering the moment, earlier that morning, when he was told of the crash.
So, Wolcott continues his usual course of being a misleading jackass and giving folks like the Kos Klan, who seem to take everything Wolcott says as gospel, something false to bitch about, and Lopez needs to stop commenting on things she doesn�t have the full board of information on.
Just goes to show how one off-hand comment can and will be taken and snowballed into something it is not.

Hoon and Rumsfeld agree Iraq exit strategy
The US and Britain have privately agreed an exit strategy from Iraq based on doubling the number of local police trainees and setting up Iraqi units that would act as a halfway house between the police and the army.
The agreement was reached on Monday between the US secretary of defence, Donald Rumsfeld, and his British counterpart, Geoff Hoon.
It was based on recommendations from retired US general Gary Luck, sent to Iraq by the Pentagon last month to look at the failings of Iraq’s security force.
Now that the ‘Worst Economy Since Hoover’ meme is gone, it will be nice to get rid of this one too.
Especially after Ted ‘The Drunkard’ Kennedy’s words yesterday.
Kennedy First Senator To Call for Withdrawl from Iraq
Senator Ted Kennedy says the American military’s continued presence in Iraq is fanning the flames of conflict. The Massachusetts Democrat is calling for a “new plan” to bring US troops home.
In remarks prepared for a speech in Washington, Kennedy says the US military presence in Iraq “has become part of the problem, not part of the solution.”
Kennedy is not the first member of Congress to call for withdrawing troops, but he’s the first senator to do so.
Now let’s all open our history books and remember what happened the last time Kennedy demanded a pull out of the Army from a foreign nation.
A treaty was approved and signed to help out South Vietnam that included monetary and material help. After the pullout, Kennedy and his ilk voted against the appropriations to actually honor the agreement and MILLIONS OF VIETNAMESE WERE ALLOWED TO BE ENSLAVED AND SLAUGHTERED.
Never again.
Houston, Texas has just made me do a double-take.
Metro board OKs concealed guns on buses, trains. Riders with permits will be allowed to carry concealed handguns on board.
A showdown about the right to carry concealed handguns on Metro trains and buses had a peaceful ending today.
Metro’s board unanimously approved the policy change this afternoon without discussion. It removes a section of a 1995 regulation that stated no exception to the authority’s weapons ban was provided for concealed-handgun license holders. The new rule prohibits “the possession of dangerous weapons” and “the unlawful carrying of a concealed handgun in or on Metro facilities or vehicles.”
According to Metro attorneys, the old policy was valid until the Legislature passed the 2003 law banning governmental bodies from prohibiting the lawful carrying of concealed weapons on government property unless those locations are specifically mentioned in the law. Transit vehicles and facilities are not among those locations exempted from the concealed-carry law.
I knew that Texas didn’t get their full rights on concealed carry installed until a few years ago, but I did not know that even after that, they weren’t allowed to carry their weapons on public transportation.

Lawmakers trying to plump up the bottom line are considering a “vanity tax” on cosmetic surgery and Botox injections in Washington, Illinois and other states.
Plastic surgeons and their patients say the idea is just plain ugly.
“It makes no sense. Where does it stop � massages, facials, teeth cleanings?” asked Karen Wakefield, 51, who has had a nose job, dermabrasion, liposuction, tummy tuck and breast lift � plus a little Botox here and there.
“Even having a baby is elective surgery,” added Wakefield, an event planner in Woodinville. “Why not tax that, too?”
Hey Mrs. Wakefield, the government was doing that for years. Now pull those dollar bills out of your bra and hand them over to the government and tell me how you feel about it.

Health Care Company That Fired Smokers Also Targeting Fat
A Michigan health care company that fired four employees for smoking is also targeting fat.
Howard Weyers, the founder of Weyco Inc., said he wants to tell fat workers to lose weight or else, Reuters reported.
Weyers brought in weight experts to speak with employees, according to Reuters. The company also offers employees a $35 monthly incentive for joining a health club and $65 for meeting fitness goals.
Next, treadmills instead of desk chairs and PCS designed to fit on the handlebars.
