Link the First:

So is the Garrity Rule why Cops who behave badly rarely ever see a jury from the defendants table?

Link the Second:

Really, seriously folks, crime is going down overall.  Stop watching the news so much.  But still carry your gun, it’s going down, not gone from the face of the Earth.  That being said…

Link the Third:

Mexican Heroin is now delivered to your door buy non-violent delivery boys, whose service is followed up with a courtesy call.  In a way, I’m glad to see the drug dealers learning to do things better.  I don’t like the proliferation of hard drugs, but maybe this will be the straw that breaks the war on drugs (hard to squash a decentralized organization).

  1. On Number Three: remember Mexico decriminalized most “hard” drugs for personal use recently: http://www.softgreenglow.com/wp/?p=8070

Cops are the ONLY career that makes you a CRIMINAL suspect for doing your job, like shooting bad guys that try to kill you or others. Thus Garrey that at least gives a level playing field in court. A citizen can not be forced to give a statement. A cop is routinly ordered to give one. So when its a forced/ordered statement they can’t use it against you in court at a crimial trial. Tough Sh*t

SULACO – Careful with the Chip on your shoulder, you’re gonna hurt someone. Last time I checked, wounding or killing people is NOT one of the duties of a police officer, therefore, cops should be criminal suspects whenever they need to use that extreme portion of their authority, in EXACTLY the same way that any of us would be a criminal suspect if we had to pull the trigger on a bad guy. Hell, even more so, since the police have the backing and support of the badge, the police union, and the benefit of the doubt from a large segment of the population, whereas normal citizens only have the support of a lawyer, hopefully some family & friends, and whatever financial resources they can scrap together. If officers don’t like that fact, well, no one is forcing them to be an officer.

Now, I was not questioning the validity of the Garrity rule, in fact, I see the utility of it (better to know the truth, even if it means the guilty don’t see a courtroom), I was merely asking the question. I’ve never heard of the Garrity rule, and the article implies that it is not something that is publicly discussed, so I figured it might be something readers would be interested in knowing.
