Stimulus

The only thing being stimulated here is people’s greed

And my ire.

The Polk County school district is giving away iPods to some parents.

The school district is using the device to reward parents of children with disabilities who fill out a 10-minute online survey. The district wants to know how well it’s connecting with the parents and how to get parents involved in their children’s education.

The district is spending about $350,000 in federal stimulus money for the iPods.

The district has more than 10,000 students with disabilities.

And, apparently, an entire school board.

It’s Polk county–I’m not surprised. I learned a lot about the place last year, driving 1500-mile round trips once a month to see the girlfriend (now wife). Nothing those people could do would surprise me.

Sounds like someone’s playing the system. According to Wikipedia, roughly 25% of the 485k pop is 18 &under. That’s roughly 125K. How many are students? Let’s be generous and say 100K. So 1 out of 10 students is disabled? I find that really hard to believe. Sounds as bad as here in South Central MO where we have families who have managed to have all their kids declared mentally disabled (just takes a little coaching)and now have 5-8 sprogs each generating 750$ or so a month in benefits…..
