I just stopped by my local gunshop to turn in the as-yet-unfired Rock Island .45 for warranty service. You may recall from this post that between last Friday and Monday of last week the shop had sold out of stripped AR lower receivers. And things just kept flying off the shelves.
Well, today, I was astonished to see three M1A battle rifles on the rack. Joe confirmed they’d just arrived today. So if you’re in the market for a tiger-striped urban camo M1A SOCOM II, a nice M1A SOCOM 16, or a longer M1A that I didn’t recognize (maybe it’s a Scout?) call Joe at J&R Sports Supply, and tell him David sent ya. (Pics are not the actual guns in the shop, but reasonable facsimiles found on th3 w3bz.)

Do they come with the UltiMAK mounts? Or rather, are those UltiMAK mounts?
Ry, I just found these pics on the web. The guns for sale in the store do NOT have these mounts or optics.
That being said, I believe the first pic of the SOCOM II was from the gun’s launch at whatever SHOT show a few years back. Did UltiMAK provide mounts to Springfield for their launch presentations?
I can personnaly attest to the absolute joy that is shooting an M1A SOCOM.
As for Ry’s question, the rail on the top of the SOCOM II was designed and constructed by VLTOR, and then added by Springfield. The bottom section of rail is removable, which will thankfully shed some of the nose-heavy weight on the rifle. Looking back, I probably should have gone for the original SOCOM, as opposed to the II variant, but either is an outstanding EBR (while being perfectly legal within the realm of Kalifornistan).
Yeah, after shooting Linoge’s SOCOM, I really want one too, although I’m leaning towards the SOCOM 16 variant. Just a sweet gun.
OOOooo SOCOM II oooOOO
I have yet to talk to someone who did not gush over theirs.
So many rifles, not enough (time/money/space)…
I wrote Lyle (owner of UltiMAK) and he said:
The one on the right, sitting on the shooting bench with the bag, has our M8 mount on it with a Trijicon TX30 Tripower reflex sight.
