Actually, no one has much luck running senators. Historically, the only time a senator wins the election he is running against another senator. Aaaand, almost the only time a serving governor–or sitting president or vice president–loses, he is running against another governor.
Granted, it only takes one election to really screw these statistical certainty things up, but hat’s the way it trends.
