Yet another reason to move to Texas

This is a county by county map of gas prices across America.

I do wonder about how Missouri and South Carolina got to be so “green”.

With some obvious exceptions (Alaska, Hawaii, California with their magic gasoline, etc) the number one reason is….taxes.

Probably next would be the cost of delivery. Getting gas from the refinery to the customer can add a significant cost in more remote areas.

But I’ll bet it’s mostly taxes. That’s where most of the difference is in gas prices from one country to another.

W00t. TN is not perfect, but it surely is not bad. Prices just went back under 3.49 here, and I can certainly live with that.

  4. Yup, taxes, in most respects.

Although Missouri has no refineries (any longer, anyway), they are bordered by states that have huge refinery production capacity and pipelines that run through the state.

I don’t see those taxes changing much, either, as the local electorate seems to like their “cheap” gas, and for good reason. Being a border dweller, and working in Missouri and living in Kansas, I usually buy my gas after work or at lunch, where I can get it cheaper.
