It isn’t really a good idea

To attack your political opponent for taking money from folks who are also giving you wheelbarrows full of cash.

Gregoire getting same donations that ads attack Rossi for

The political contributions from drug and insurance companies that have become fodder for attack ads against Republican Dino Rossi are also fueling Gov. Chris Gregoire’s campaign, the state Democratic Party and Evergreen Progress, the political action committee behind the negative ads.

“The brazenness of them, to make these attacks when they are getting money from the insurance companies, is pretty astounding,” said Mary Lane, a spokeswoman for the state Republican Party. “Why let the facts get in the way of a good negative ad?”

……

Evergreen Progress paid for the ads and the Web site, which includes detailed spreadsheets that show drug and insurance companies and their employees contributed nearly $82,000 to Rossi since 1996.

But state public disclosure records show that Gregoire received more than $122,000 in campaign contributions from drug and insurance companies and their employees in the same period.

In addition, Evergreen Progress has received $1 million from the Democratic Governors Association, which is also funded by drug and insurance companies.

The Washington state Democrats also have been the recipients of more than $1 million of DGA contributions.

Rick Desimone, the chairman and sole spokesman for Evergreen Progress, was unavailable for comment.

Sadly, Dino is too nice a guy to point these facts out in an ad of his own. And when a group of Rossi supporters put an ad that mentions these facts onto the airwaves, they will be labeled by the Dems as “a vicious attack dog group”.
