I never heard of it before…so it’s like brokeback fiction? If they call male pairing “slash,” is female pairing “gash”? Wikipedia has gotten all freakin’ ‘Net centric and weird.
It started with Kirk/Spock stories, almost all written by (ahem) well-fed female Trekkies (Trekkers!) and then it went from there.
I use “slash” to describe pretty much all erotic fan fiction involving two characters, that is Character 1/Character 2 — the wikipedia article and the older, um, slash “purists” seem to want to restrict it to stories about same-sex couplings. But seems to me if you’re calling Mulder/Scully erotic fiction “slash”, it’s jumped the gender boundary.
Some things I never knew before…
I think the Democrats already beat us too it with the fantasies about Bush and his cabinet. THey routinely talk about Bush and Condi doing it, either with Laura or without. Either that or Bush is a gay guy with a thing for bald dudes if you’re into yaoi. Now, if any of them have actually written those fantasies down into a story….. I don’t really want to know.
