Pirates, Jihadis & LNG

That’s Liquefied Natural Gas. A while back I posted about the possibility of tankers full of refined gasoline starting to clutter our waterways, and in the comments Rivrdog pointed out that LNG tankers are already there.

Well, there’s a pretty nifty website devoted to covering modern-day Pirates and their intersection with Jihadis and LNG. It’s all part of publicity for a disaster novel and screenplay (you can guess the scenario), but even if you aren’t interested in that aspect of it, there’s a ton of fascinating stuff here.

Hunt of the Sea Wolves. Check it out.

One Response to Pirates, Jihadis & LNG

  1. Thanks for visiting my “Hunt of the Sea Wolves” blog. Granted, part of its purpose is to promote my as yet unpublished and unproduced novel and screenplay, but as I was researching the topic I came to realize the very real potential LNG ships present as targets for terrorists.

I also became fascinated with the fact that modern-day pirates pretty much do as they want in certain areas of the world, particularly Samalia. And the fact that some terrorists have already hijacked ships only to have the crews teach them out to maneuver the vessels and then stole operating manuels bodes bad things for sealanes and port cities.

It also continually amazes me that there are almost daily battles going on in the Philippings between government forces and the Abu Sayyaf as well as Sri Lanka between the government and the Tamil Tigers (which is the only rebel force to have its own navy and airforce) that totally escapes the attention of the mainstream media. I suppose this will continue until one of these organizations hijacks and destroyes either an LNG or cruise ship. Both are known by anti-terrorist organizations to be prime targets of these sea-going terrorists.

    Again, thanks for stopping by.
