The Soundboard – Tribute

As you all know, Richard Pryor passed away this weekend. There are a number very good and kind things that have been written about him throughout the blogosphere that say more about him than I could. Two of them that I would like to point out for you to read are from Captain Ed and Roger L Simon.

If you remember the very early VCRs on the market in the late 70’s / early 80’s and their tank-like yet fragile structure may remember Mr. Pryor’s arrival on the VHS and Beta marketplace.

Back then, my dad had some business dealings that included a video rental store. This allowed him to have any movie on the market that he wanted for his personal collection. One of the first that I remember was Richard Pryor’s “Live on the Sunset Strip. I remember him laughing his ass off downstairs while watching it after sending me off to bed one night, but it didn’t take long for me to secure the tape while he was out and watch it for myself.

I don’t know that I laughed so hard in my life up until then, and I was only 11 or 12 and probably didn’t get more than half of the bits.

After that, I made sure to find every Pryor comedy tape he brought home and watch it. One of his best characters and my personal favorite was ‘Mudbone’. The stories that came out of that character were simply the best and I am going to share one with you today.

Little Feets – Richard Pryor

This NSFW bit came off of Richard Pryor’s 1975 album ‘Is it something I said?’ which you can purchase here, and I recommend you do.. It was recorded live at the The Latin Casino in Cherry Hill, NJ.

Thanks and so long Mr. Pryor.
