Kiss Of Smeg

I’m sure we all remember the picks by the Kos Kommandos for the 2004 election and their humiliating defeat when every single one of them lost.

Kos sure knows how to pick a loser. And he did it again this week.

There was a special election in the 48th CD of California yesterday. The top three contenders were John Campbell (R), Steve Young (D)and Jim Gilchrist (I).

On Tuesday, Kos picked Steve Young to win, saying that Minutemen co-founder Gilchrist could easily split the (R) vote off from Campbell, handing Young the victory in the heavily Republican district.

Why did he think this even though a number of factors were showing it to be impossible? Because if he has nothing else, Kos has his hatred for Republicans to grandstand on. Kos described Gilchrist as a Xenophobe and “Anti-Brown-Immigrants type that caused the Repubs to spend a whole $250K on this race.

Yeah, you see where this is going, right? The results were Campbell 44.7%, Young 28% and Gilchrist 25%.

Now 25% is nothing to sneeze at when you figure all the times that the guy got called a racist during that election contest. But when Kos’ pick only got 3% more than that guy, I think he had his hopes too high. Campbell could have dropped seven percentage points to either of the other candidates and still won decisively.

What I do hope these results lead to is the Republican Party taking a look at their national immigration policy after Gilchrist kept their candidate to below 50%. This is one guy I wouldn’t mind carpetbagging around after soft on immigration Repubs.

I don’t count an endorsement from Kos being the ‘Kiss of Death’ to his chosen candidates, mostly because I won’t give him such a grand title. But I would give him the one in the title of this post.

Definition of the term Smeg, for those not in the know.
