Blogger Blastorama Announcement

It’s been a good long while since we’ve had one of these and I want to make the comeback a good one.

So….

On August 20th, myself and a number of Oregon bloggers will be gathering at a range in Portland.

Notables include The Rivrdog, Jerry the Geek, John of Some Poor Schmuck and The DANE as well as a high probability of Gullyborg, creator of the Carnival of Cordite and Headmistress SondraK.

Meeting time is 1200 at BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse for some grub with shooting to begin around 1300-1330 at The Place to Shoot.

Please contact myself or one of the above bloggers for the addresses if you are interested in stopping by and slinging some lead with us. You do not have to be a blogger to attend. If you just readand.or comment, that makes eligible as well. And, of course, new shooters are most welcome. There will be an abundance of firearms to try out and smiling faces to lend a hand.

There will be also be an after shooting BBQ being put on at a secret location by The Rivrdog. This will be by invite only, so come on down to the range with us and get invited!

e_Postal Match for August 8th, 2005

And so here we are at the second of the rifle e-Postal Matches. I hope everyone enjoyed the last one and that this one will be even more enjoyable.

Here is the reason it is titled “Killiards

That is also my attempt from 100yds out.

Looks pretty easy, huh? Well, I can definitely say that your eyes are probably deceiving you.

Here are the rules for this match:

Where’s the Food!?!

Wife gone.

Hungry.

What is this thing called a stove?

OK, I’m just kidding. I’ve got a grill, so the stove will remain cold.

Which is probably for the better, since I do remember hold badly I cook for myself.

Anyway, last night’s gunsmithing expedition is not yet complete due to the non-arrival of a parts order (thank you very much, Wilson Combat, for your slow shipping).

I’m going to try to go to sleep a bit early in the hopes of getting to the range to finally shoot Mr. Completely’s Flyswatter target for the e-Postal Match.
If you haven’t make sure to get your entries in by tomorrow. And have a good Sunday.

A Helping Hand

avatar25375_19.gif

I would be utterly honorless if I failed to mention the person who helped Ms. K and myself with our travel to friendly territory. And I would be dishonest to say that without her help, we might not have made the trip as safely and quickly as we did.

Just a couple of updates

First off, the 25th Carnival of Cordite is up at Resistance is Futile! And I have not one, not two, but three links in it (mostly because I forgot to submit anything for last week, but big thanks go to Gullyborg for letting me submit them this time around).

Next up, Professor Booty says that he was not consulted for this billboard advert, but he says that it is unquestionably true.

Also, as you probably already know, today is the 60th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima. If I had the time I’d write about it, but I don’t and I know that many others will do and have done a better job than I can do anyway.

If you have a moment on this day, take a look around for men who are of the age to have served in WWII and realize that one out of every ten of them might not be here today if we would have attempted a land invasion instead of dropping the bomb.

Let the historical revisionists know that too, if you get a chance.

Well, I have to take the wife to the airport and then it’ll be sleepy time for me.

Tonight, all night, gunsmithing! How cool is that? High probability of pics tomorrow.

UPDATE: I’m back. The wife is in the air. So……

Chocolate cake for breakfast!

My Most Humblest of Apologies, Gentlemen

For not making myself available last week. I was quite busy trying to save the world, James Bond style.

I’m sure you’re saying, “Yeah right, Professor. Just how did you save the world?

Well, I could tell you, but then I’d have to kill you James Bond style as well.

But I CAN show you.

TGIFF

I’m sure you all can figure out what the extra ‘F’ stands for, right?

It’s been one heck of a week and now I will be spending the better part of my non-sleeping hours today getting the wife ready to go home to Montana to visit her family for a week.

Due to all that, I’m really not finding much to get excited enough about to write.

You might want to take a moment though to click on over to this link I found at Ravenwood’s to read Cynthia A. Janak’s report on Gun Control and Firearms Registration.

It has some really good links to whip out on some unsuspecting hoplophobe when they try to tell you that registration of firearms isn’t a bad thing and ‘reasonable’ gun control is A-OK.

Have a good day and see you all tomorrow.

It’s Done

For now.

I still can’t believe that I hadn’t featured this here before, but in going through my pics file I didn’t see any image of it, so here we go.

P8040005.JPG

It is just your standard Ruger 10/22 with the Butler Creek overmolded stock and .920 barrel. I bought the wrong bi-pod for Barak the Boomershoot rifle so the 9in Harris went on the 10/22.

I already had the Weaver base from the previous scope mounting and then I bought and mounted the Kwik-Site quick-detach rings around the Bushnell Sportsman 3-9×40 scope from Natchez.

The last scope was a piece of crap and the old rings held the scope so high that I could get a finger between the objective bell and the barrel so I wasn’t surprised when I couldn’t get 2MOA out of it, but I have high hopes for this set-up and will give it a go this Sunday.

The barrel is the 20in version and it works well with the modified bolt group and magazine I have for it. It gives the CB caps from CCI a little extra oomph for range but still keeps them nice and quiet.

The Soundboard: Sucker for a Hook Series

Part 8: Disco Stomp

I don’t really have a lot to say bout this track, other than I was going through my mp3 collection, getting ready for the arrival of my new hard drive (just another 160GB, nothing fancy), and found it and knew it had to be posted.

A somewhat elusive track as the album it is on can be difficult to find in stores for some odd reason.

But anyway, don’t fight the urge to download it, you know you want to do it!

Don’t Bring Me Down – Electric Light Orchestra

I’m still trying to figure out what I want to post next week. I’ve got it narrowed down to either ‘Rock Chicks’ or ‘Skinny Tie’.

Any preference?

Oh, How the Mighty Have Fallen

And lo, here I sit with my laptop plugged into my kitchen phone line, which resembles a clothesline as it hangs across the doorway that goes from the kitchen to the family room.

My cable modem decided to take a big ‘ol dump on me yesterday afternoon, and though I wished and hoped and dreamed that the power supply was just getting too warm, it was not to be.

So just to let y’all know, I’m getting a 10-count here. I’m going to stay up late this morning to head down to Comcast’s south King County office (yes, they only have one) and get me a new modem and hopefully be up and running again later today.

If that plan fails and it is something more serious, look for a severe decrease in blogging for the forseeable future (hopefully just a day or so) as I kidnap a technician and hold him hostage, feeding him only fruit roll ups and chimichangas until the problem is solved.

UPDATE: I am now home and hooked up and everything seems to be back to normal.

It is amazing the service you get when you walk into their offices bearing gasoline and a torch.

And the wife says she can’t take me anywhere.
