The Soundboard: Sucker for a Hook Series

Part 11: Down with the Wayback Machine

Now that I’ve finally come back to the 21st Century in my personal musical choices, I think I’m going to get just a bit naughty.

Today’s selection came out in the late summer of 2002 (if I remember right) and became an instant house-music anthem that you can’t get out of your head.

Unless you work at the Christian Coalition or with a group of utter prudes, it is probably work safe.

Who Da Funk – Shiny Disco Balls

Next week’s selection will not be safe for work in any way shape or form unless you work at a strip club or porno shop.

Part 10: Skinny Ties

Still stuck in the 80’s, I present what has been described as the perfect cross between New Wave and Rock.

The Cars – Candy O

I mean, just take a look at the cover art!

Yes, I know that the album hit the shelves in 1979, but the hits rolled right into the summer of 1980, so neener!

Since I started that 80’s album for my co-worker a couple weeks back, I have made an entire CD of music from these guys and have listened to it so much that the wife has taken to rolling her eyes when she sees me putting it in the CD player.

I have recently ordered something which I will probably have by next week that should bring me back to the 21st century. But we’ll see.

Part 9: Rock Chicks

Last Thursday I gave a choice for this week’s selection; Rock Chicks vs Skinny Ties

Four votes for the Chicks and three for the Ties, so here we go.

Just a quick note:
One of my co-workers transferred to a new position at a different facility and I wanted to give her a going away present. Since she is a big fan of 80’s euro-pop and rock of the non-hair metal variety and I have a rather goodly sized collection of music and a large gift certificate to a music sharing service so I made her a 4-CD set of music.

Yep, five hours and forty-five minutes of music that was made between 1979 and 1990.

She loved it.

Unfortunately, I am now a sad, sad individual who hasn’t listened to a song made after 1990 for two weeks. And The Soundboard will reflect this until I get over this minor affliction.

Pat Benetar rocked in the 70’s and 80’s and was a chick so she definitely qualifies for this series.

Pat Benetar – Heartbreaker

Ya gotta love a woman who can sing her balls off!

Part 8: Disco Stomp

I don’t really have a lot to say bout this track, other than I was going through my mp3 collection, getting ready for the arrival of my new hard drive (just another 160GB, nothing fancy), and found it and knew it had to be posted.

A somewhat elusive track as the album it is on can be difficult to find in stores for some odd reason.

But anyway, don’t fight the urge to download it, you know you want to do it!

Don’t Bring Me Down – Electric Light Orchestra

I’m still trying to figure out what I want to post next week. I’ve got it narrowed down to either ‘Rock Chicks’ or ‘Skinny Tie’.

Any preference?
