Grrrr

Well, Professor Booty has dropped off the edge fo the earth again with not even a by your leave.

On Thursday I got an email from him talking about “The ASSignment” , whatever that might mean. I just hope he’s not letting that secret agent crap from a couple weeks ago go to his head. The guy knows his glutes, but doesn’t know much about espionage or keeping his cards close to his chest.

“Chests aren’t my business is what he’d say about that quote.

Anyway, I’ll put the pic he sent in his “ASSignment email below the fold for y’all and we’ll see about him tomorrow.

In good news, The 26th Carnival of Cordite is up and running for your reading and viewing pleasure. Also, Rivrdog has a posted at his Paratus site a short treatise on home-made flamethrowers.

And in great news, the Analog Wife returns today. So, without further comment on that subject, I’ll leave you to figure out what I’ll be doing the rest of the day after we get her home from the airport.

Have a good day and we’ll see y’all tomorrow

My Big Stupid Friday Post

Yesterday, I apologized to Darth Vader and called myself an idiot and here is why:

Earlier this week I was installing the Easy-Loader follower from Dave’s Metal Works onto Vader and I ground a little too much in one spot and too little in another and ended up bending my follower and follower catch to the point that when the trigger group is inserted into the gun, the bolt won’t come back.

If you look at this schematic, the parts are #’s 17 and 24. They are supposed to interact, but due to my overzealousness with the tools, they no longer do.

To top it off, I had loaded the gun to test the new magazine follower and had a round stuck in the chamber. I had to remove the trigger group from a now loaded 12 gauge without sending an ounce and a quarter of #6 shot through an exterior wall near by work area.

I successfully completed the task, but it didn’t make me feel any smarter.

$45 worth of parts and second day air shipping later, I should have things back to normal on Monday or Tuesday.

I have collected a bunch of links throughout the week to report on and so as to make myself feel better, I’m going to tell you all about the stupid stuff other folks have done this week.

To start off with, Mike the Marine at From the Hall to the Shores Blog is out on the big water for WESTPAC maneuvers and some dingleberry from Seattle writes his unit a little anti-Bush, anti-Jews love letter.

Trouble is, the beginning of the unit’s mailing addy is “Commanding Officer, so guess who go t to read it first?

Stupid.

The author of the letter most likely putting his real address on the envelope.

Definitely stupid.

Next up, Judicious Asininity links to the recent Christopher Hitchens Slate article that asks some very pointed questions about the left,

How can so many people watch this as if they were spectators, handicapping and rating the successes and failures from some imagined position of neutrality? Do they suppose that a defeat in Iraq would be a defeat only for the Bush administration? The United States is awash in human rights groups, feminist organizations, ecological foundations, and committees for the rights of minorities. How come there is not a huge voluntary effort to help and to publicize the efforts to find the hundreds of thousands of “missing” Iraqis, to support Iraqi women’s battle against fundamentalists, to assist in the recuperation of the marsh Arab wetlands, and to underwrite the struggle of the Kurds, the largest stateless people in the Middle East? Is Abu Ghraib really the only subject that interests our humanitarians?

I can answer that for you Mr. Hitchens, it is because the left couldn’t care less about the Iraqis. They don’t care who gets injured or killed just so long as it isn’t them and Bush looks bad.

That and they are absolutely stupid.

Mora at the Babalu Blog finds a story about a Canadian who sunk $100,000 into a house in the people’s paradise that isn’t Cuba only to have castro (aka The Murderous Dictator) take it away and give to one of his cronies.

Stupid Canadian, don’t you know, nice houses are for the privileged classes?

On Wednesday, bloggers across the sphere were talking about the Pentagon’s plans for a ‘march’ in remembrance of September 11th. While a lot of folks aren’t really hip to the idea, I am sitting this one out. I haven’t heard any of the Pentagon employees grumbling about it much and they lost hundreds of their own on that day, so if this is what they want, I’m OK with it.

So that is not the stupid part.

The stupid part is that the NY Daily News went hunting for quotes against the celebration, looked on their speed-dial and found Monica Gabrielle, member of the Family Steering Committee for the 9/11 Commission, member of Member of Coalition of 9/11 Families and 9/11 Families for a Secure America and ardent Bush-Basher along with Kristen Breitweiser .

Of course, this part of the story, the NY Daily doesn’t tell its readers. They need a memory of names to recognize that one.

So that makes them both pretty stupid for thinking they could fool everyone.

And last, but certainly not least, Ravenwood writes about some Canadian officials whining because some firearms from America are making their way into Canada and into criminal hands.

Why is this stupid, you might ask?

Well, because the Canucks want the US border patrol to do something about it. For some reason, it doesn’t even seem to occur to them that maybe THEY need to step up their border security to stop this problem.

I know I’d much rather see gun runners in a Canadian prison where they’ll get no parole and no ‘Time for good behavior’ after their sentenced. Whereas in America, especially in states like New York, they’ll get a slap on the wrist and let out in less than a year even if they DON’T cop a plea.

OK, now I feel better. I may have made a stupid mistake, but at least I didn’t piss off a Marine CO, lose my house to a murderous dictator or show myself to be an international whining bitch.

For everyone else, more on this tomorrow.

And the beat goes on

My blogfather and founder of RNS, Nukevet Neal, has found that he couldn’t stay away from blogging any longer than he could stay away from helping sick animals and has set himself up some new digs under the name ‘Life in the Atomic Age’.

Not a lot of politics, but definitely some good stuff, including his most excellent Scotch collection, his wife’s horse riding competitions and some cool photography.

A good place with a great guy and some great content.

The Soundboard: Sucker for a Hook Series

Part 9: Rock Chicks

Last Thursday I gave a choice for this week’s selection; Rock Chicks vs Skinny Ties

Four votes for the Chicks and three for the Ties, so here we go.

Just a quick note:
One of my co-workers transferred to a new position at a different facility and I wanted to give her a going away present. Since she is a big fan of 80’s euro-pop and rock of the non-hair metal variety and I have a rather goodly sized collection of music and a large gift certificate to a music sharing service so I made her a 4-CD set of music.

Yep, five hours and forty-five minutes of music that was made between 1979 and 1990.

She loved it.

Unfortunately, I am now a sad, sad individual who hasn’t listened to a song made after 1990 for two weeks. And The Soundboard will reflect this until I get over this minor affliction.

Pat Benetar rocked in the 70’s and 80’s and was a chick so she definitely qualifies for this series.

Pat Benetar – Heartbreaker

Ya gotta love a woman who can sing her balls off!

Sometimes ‘Nay’ Means ‘Nay’

So now that the world is pretty much done laughing at Washington State after the story about the guy who was ‘getting the shaft’ from his horse and died from it, a local state Senator, Pam Roach is trying to do something about our lack of laws against bestiality.

And then we have Seattle Post-Intelligencer columnist Robert L. Jameson, Jr. saying that Roach is going to extremes and jumps all over her because while she is pushing this law to make bestiality illegal, she isn’t fighting to shut down animal testing facilities, leather makers and butcher shops as well.

Of course the Seattle PI is the local paper who, when it was discovered that the terrorist Asswat had ties to a radical Seattle Mosque and was involved in trying to create a terrorist training ground in Oregon ran a story about the local university on the front page instead of the Asswat one.

So we know that the PI is a left-wing rag not fit to pick up dog crap with, but Jameson’s idiocy is what is really extreme. Check just these few lines out from his August 10th column after talking to her about it,

Roach says I am wrong to say she is wasting legislative time and energy. I shouldn’t be making light of her push to make sex with animals a Class C felony. More than two dozen states have legislation that makes sexual congress with animals a crime.

“Our state has nothing,” Roach says. “No deterrence. … Animals are stimulated to do this. This is not something a stallion wants to be involved with.”

I’ll leave it to Roach to divine what strikes a horse’s fancy, but a horse is the reason she called.

“It’s pornography with animals,” Roach sums up.

Isn’t pornography of the human variety legal so long as children aren’t involved?

“Like a child, an animal cannot consent,” Roach fires back. “No animal is a willing participant.”

The jury is out among experts as to whether sex with animals — clearly repugnant — constitutes cruelty.

The jury is still out on whether bestiality is animal cruelty? What the fuck, is Jameson become Dr. Doolittle now? Does he have some special powers that make him able to get a yes or no answer about consent from an animal?

No consent = Rape

Rape = Cruel

Cruelty + Animals = Animal Cruelty

Jameson is a complete jackass who just hates Pam Roach and is willing to look like a jackass, on the internet no less, so that he can continue hating Pam Roach.

In a minor defense of the Seattle PI, it seems like someone inside the editorial offices there with a couple of actual brain cells read Jameson’s column and they posted this three paragraph statement from the editorial board of the PI.

It should be a no-brainer that animal cruelty laws ought to cover sex acts. But after a Seattle man’s death at an Enumclaw bestiality ranch last month, it became clear that our animal cruelty laws are gutless.

In other words, welcome to Nobrainsville. The legal and regulated hunting of animals in no way grants us a carte blanche on all aspects of animal life. And arguing that animals seem to enjoy the act is a ridiculous and moot point.

If state Sen. Pam Roach, R-Auburn, wants to bring about a law protecting animals from rape, we say: Go for it, Pam. For once, we’re with you.

I don’t get the dead tree edition, so I don’t know where these two columns appeared in respect to one-another, but I doubt that they were on the same page.

E-Postal Match Update

I need to proofread these things a little better.

On Monday, when I spoke of rimfire and pistol caliber carbines, I should have included rimfire and pistol caliber rifles in that group.

Doh!

Reprocussions of Kelo

Today in Alabama, Republican Governor Bob Riley will sign into law, a bill that will stop the state and all counties and cities within the state from taking away people’s property to make more tax revenue.

The sponsor of the bill, Republican Senator Jack Biddle said the following after the bill passed,

“We don’t like anybody messing with our dogs, our guns, our hunting rights or trying to take property from us,”

Sounds like my kind of guy.

In contrast, there is this case in Oakland, California of the city taking the property of Alex Hahn (who was renting the facilities on said property to John Revelli and Tony Fung, owners of the Revelli Tires and Autohouse) and giving it to Sears.

The Sears Corporation wants to build their new ‘Sears Autocenter’ on the lot.

How nice of Oakland to knock out a small, privately owned business (as well as the jobs that go along with the business) so that it can be replaced by said business’ competition!

I’d tell you about the political affiliations of the Oakland City Council members, but their site is down right now. I am currently of the opinion that their site isn’t the only thing that needs some re-tooling.

But all one needs to do is look at which state went for whom in the presidential race last November to see the contrast here.

California – Kerry 54.4% – Bush 44.4%
Alabama – Kerry 37% – Bush 63%

All of which makes Howard Dean’s remarks,

“The president and his right-wing Supreme Court think it is ‘okay’ to have the government take your house if they feel like putting a hotel where your house is,”

Even more ridiculous.

Bumvertising

By the name of it, you’d figure it would be something that Professor Booty would be involved in.

Indeed, he has. But then, writing your business’ name on a fine posterior and having her walk around in a thong isn’t really anything new.

However, that is not what “Bumvertising’ is about.

Bumvertising is when Seattle resident, Benjamin Rogovy, president of Front Door Enterprises and purveyor of Poker Face Book dot com gives a professionally made sign, some spending cash and some food to bums standing at the top of freeway on and off ramps and has them also hold onto a sign advertising his website.

I’m not big fan of the bums, especially the aggressive ones. But as a blogger who has had to deal with comment and trackback spam, I see this as one hell of an improvement over the spammers.

So go take a look and let me know what you think.
