The Soundboard: Sucker for a Hook Series

Part 10: Skinny Ties

Still stuck in the 80’s, I present what has been described as the perfect cross between New Wave and Rock.

The Cars – Candy O

I mean, just take a look at the cover art!

candy o.jpg

Yes, I know that the album hit the shelves in 1979, but the hits rolled right into the summer of 1980, so neener!

Since I started that 80’s album for my co-worker a couple weeks back, I have made an entire CD of music from these guys and have listened to it so much that the wife has taken to rolling her eyes when she sees me putting it in the CD player.

I have recently ordered something which I will probably have by next week that should bring me back to the 21st century. But we’ll see.

A Ladies Man

According to this survey, I am exactly what women are looking for. Too bad I’ve been taken off the market.

But never being one to shy away, and since they are taking submissions, you may see me gracing the pages of the magazine who took the poll.

OK, maybe not you, just your wives and daughters.

Bet that line got your attention, didn’t it?

Stuff From Florida

If you don’t stop by the Babalu Blog regularly, you really should.

Since I started stopping by regularly at the beginning of this year, I have seen adverts for Babalu shirts at Val’s place, but since I am a sorry assed procrastinator, I kept putting off getting myself one.

But that is OK, because a couple weeks back I stopped putting it off and placed my order.

Last week, they arrived. I say they because I got not only one for myself, but one for the Analog Wife.

See

Head on over and get yourself a set of the eyes that watch a murderous dictator in his last throes.

Once you’re done there, visit author and fellow ManCamp creator, Steve H’s place, Hog On Ice, and read about the abundance of wildlife he has found in and around Coral Gables.

Just one of the many specimens

11. South American hallucinogenic millipedes. They are taking over the county. I wrote about them a while back. The monkeys at Monkey Jungle rub them on their skin to get high. When liberals realize this is possible, they will do it, too.

For its part, the brown lemur of the Isle of Madagascar appears to enjoy the little bites it gives millipedes with its lips. It turns out that every time the lemur bites the millipede, it is stimulated because the latter releases a toxic compound based on cyanide, as a means of self-defense. The primate uses this to fumigate it’s own fur coat, thus keeping free of parasites and malaria-carrying mosquitoes. But besides helping to get rid of parasites, the compound also has a narcotic effect on the lemur that can last for as long as 20 minutes, and which manifests itself as an expression of happiness: The eyes pop out, the head droops and the lemur is on another plane, away from reality.

At times, millipede-intoxicated lemurs have been known to awake briefly from their stupor and mumble “Halliburton…”

Once again, it is funny because it is true.

And this is different from their previous threats how, exactly?

In response to Tony Blair’s speech declaring open season on hostile Muslims in the UK,

A coalition of Muslim leaders today warned that closing mosques deemed extremist and banning radical Islamic groups could fuel a radical sub-culture in Britain.

The gas is already on the fire, thanks to a number of the current crop of ‘Muslim Leaders’. Now it is time for us to piss on the fire and take that gas away from them.

Literally as well as figuratively.

Or, as The DANE puts it in response to the above quote,

“Which would be totally different then the existing “radical sub-culture in Britain” which has begun bombing mass transit.â€?

Theory Spoken / Theory Proved

One of the Klueless Kos Klan actually said something that ended up being true.

Yeah, I know, it is hard to believe, but follow me here for a second.

I don’t really read through Atrios’ Eschaton very often anymore. Mostly because it is so full of hate and ignorance. But I was bored last night, so I swung through and found a post titled “So Many Wnakers” which contains a link to Kostributor ‘Armondo’, where he said the following about the WaPo Editorial board, whom he believes “is nothing but a lying shill group for BushCo on Iraqâ€?,

That’s the problem with being a shill — you’ll twist yourself into such a posture of ridiculousness you can’t even tell when your head has been firmly tucked into your nether regions.

Atrios then follows up with the following,

Shorter Armondo: That’s what happens when you have Charles Krauthammer on your editorial board

The problem, Krauthammer isn’t on the editorial board.

So, if Armondo is correct in Atrios’ mind, just where does that put his head?

And also, does that itself make Atrios a “Wanker”?

Answers in the comments section please.

Atrios comes back shortly thereafter to correct himself, but the point is nonetheless proven.

And these are the folks who think their party should be running the country .

Whole Lot of Linking Going On

Busy, busy, busy putting Pac-Skin on every firearm I can find that could use it, so light blogging is in effect.

First we have Mr. Completely’s target entry for the Killiards e-Postal Match

Not bad at all AND he did it with a pistol at 50 yards. C’mon guys, you can do that with a rifle at 100! Last day to file is next Monday, August 22nd.

And don’t forget, if you’re in the Washington/Oregon portion of the US landmass, you’re invited to the Blogger Blastorama for August, being held in Portland.

Next up, John Shadegg, Congressman for the 3rd District in Arizona, has proposed HR 2458, The Enumerated Powers Act which would “require that all bills introduced in the U.S. Congress include a statement setting forth the specific constitutional authority under which the law is being enacted.

You can contact your Congresscritter here and let them know you want to get this excellent idea a vote.

Otherwise, as Lee at Right Thinking says

“Right now legislators know that they can pass any law they see fit, and then when and if it gets challenged they can go poking around the Constitution and try to find some justification for the law after the fact. For this very reason I have absolutely no doubt that the Enumerated Powers Act will never get enacted into law.”

Call them today!

Moving on, Denise at The Ten Ring links to Hell in a Handbasket’s ‘Glock Leg’ post and has some words very worthy of a read on those particular pistols. I link to this as a former Glock owner (and I stress the word former).

I am also linking to it because of this very pithy phrase that I have not heard in a long time,

“You just have to stick your bugger hook into the trigger guard and pull that bang switch.

Yeah, it’s funny cause it’s true.

Stefen Sharkansky at the local Sound Politics blog reminds me that I really should read the local papers more often, even though the wife hates it when I yell at the computer.

Last month there was an article in the Seattle Times on a program where city public swimming pools have regularly scheduled hours for the exclusive use of Muslims: “Preserving modesty, in the pool”

It’s Saturday evening, the end of a hot day, and a group of women and children have gathered at North Seattle’s Meadowbrook Pool for their monthly swim … The women and children — all Muslims — have been swimming in private once a month at Meadowbrook as part of a program organized by the North Seattle Family Center.

I made some calls and learned that the program, called “Muslim Sister Swim”, is treated by the city’s Meadowbrook Pool as any other private rental, which would be exempt from the city non-discrimination policy. However, the outfit that organizes and pays for the Muslim Sister Swim is the North Seattle Family Center, a unit of the Children’s Home Society, a non-profit that gets most of its money from various government sources. As such, it should strictly comply with non-discrimination guidelines. Nevertheless, the Muslim Sister Swim is open exclusively to Muslims, no infidel women need apply. I asked a representative of the North Seattle Family Center to explain this, and she told me that it was to respect these immigrant women’s culture.

Yeah, Seattle is definitely high on the list of the Sufi/Wahabbi sect’s “Easy List and will probably see one of the next attacks from the Islamobastards.

There is an entry for the NSFW enjoying crowd. Head on over to The Grouchy Old Cripple (in Atlanta) to see Canada’s proposed new paper money. Made with the idea of making it religiously illegal for fundamentalist Muslims to handle it.

In the “I’ll believe it when I see it category, The Interested Participant links to the story of a Singapore man who says he has developed a battery that runs off of urine.

Beer drinkers who leave their lights on in the bar parking lot rejoice!

And finally, in strange news that I misplaced the link to,

Doctors fear that the identity of a mysterious mute pianist found wandering on an English beach in April might never be known, a British newspaper reported on Monday.

Go read the story. Creepy-Strangeness. Found at Samizdata.

Have a good day folks!

I did the deed and paid the fee

This is a RNS Public Service Announcement

It is now official, SoftGreenGlow.Com is my own piece of internet real estate, paid up until Christmas. I am no longer freeloading off Nukevet Neal.

Wow. Very kewl. Except that I have no idea what the hell I’m doing.

Luckily, Hosting Matters is a great hosting company, so I don’t have to worry about that.

I think I’m going to have to learn at least a couple of the alphabet languages, which will end up being one of those things I should have learned a long time ago.

I am currently looking around for someone to change the design and help me redecorate the place, so if you know someone who does good work, I’d be interested in seeing their previous stuff. I may have to save up/pay over time, but I pay cash.

Yes, I am going to do something with TypeKey (most likely get rid of it) once I do that. The program works wonders with spam, both comment and trackback types (I literally haven’t had one for over six months), but it is a bear to work with on your end, as I understand.

When I paid the hosting service up, I also upped the server storage space. We had issues with that in the past and I don’t want them again, especially with Professor Booty becoming a regular figure round here (if he ever gets back from “The ASSignment).

The Analog Wife saw what hosting costs and made a grumbly face. That was until I reminded her that blogging is cheap when compared to real therapy or ammo costs.

I’m also working on getting the archives put back in place.

So, if you stop by here and something looks funny/doesn’t work/nothing shows up, rest assured that the Analog Kid tried to go digital and messed something up. Stop back by later to see if I fixed it.

And please, no taking up a pool to see how long it takes me to screw something up. Don’t make me hurt you.

They Stole My Idea

Over at the Captain’s Quarters yesterday, Captain Ed blogged about a number of former Taliban leaders have taken advantage of the amnesty program that was offered to them and are stating that they will cooperate with the Karzai government and also run for public office.

If I can ever get the RNS archives back up, I’ll try to find the post in which I basically said “Why don’t we just get a prominent Imam to tell the Sufi/Wahhabi mofos that if Allah wants them in charge, he will use his divinity to will the people vote for them in an election?

Sounds like that might be what happened.

Not that I want the former Taliban goat-pokers in charge; but if it’ll keep them calm for a while (until they die off), getting them to run for office would be a good thing. And hey, if they win, fair and square, it was what the people wanted.

Talking Trash

After the City of Portland declared that any trash, recycling and/or yardwaste set out for pickup is public property, local reporters decided to show the Mayor, the Chief of Police and the City District Attorney just how annoying it could be to have someone legally going through your stuff.

There are a number of great quotes in this story, found at Ravenwood’s Universe, but this one is my favorite,

If the chief got overheated, the mayor went nuclear. When we confessed that we had swiped her recycling, she summoned us to her chambers.

“She wants you to bring the trash–and bring the name of your attorney,” said [the Mayor’s Press Secretary] Sarah Bott.

Being in the trash/recycling industry myself, I know that to me, trash on the curb seems rather average because I know what happens to it once it gets thrown into the truck. If you think it gets destroyed once it gets packed, you are oh so very wrong.

Ahh, Sunday

The weekend is half over and I’m not happy about that, but I can live with it.

I finally got a message from Professor Booty. No text just a strange photo. I’ll post it below, but I’m hoping that ‘The ASSignment’ he spoke in he email earlier this week wasn’t something having to do with Kool-Aide and LSD.

In funnier subjects, Laurence at TBIFOC has pics of the Palestinian Space Program that doesn’t involve them blowing themselves to the moon (as much as I’d like that). Think “Full of Hot Air”.

Not Laurnece, the other guys. Although he is sometimes full of hot bread.

Also, Rodger has a shirt with explanations of the religions of the world that falls into the “Its Funny Cause Its True” column.

Make sure you read the title of the post for Rodger’s addition to the list.

Gotta go. Baseball game with the Analog family happening today and then I get a new coffee table in the family room that I think You’ll all enjoy.

Later gator.
