Over at the Captain’s Quarters yesterday, Captain Ed blogged about a number of former Taliban leaders have taken advantage of the amnesty program that was offered to them and are stating that they will cooperate with the Karzai government and also run for public office.
If I can ever get the RNS archives back up, I’ll try to find the post in which I basically said “Why don’t we just get a prominent Imam to tell the Sufi/Wahhabi mofos that if Allah wants them in charge, he will use his divinity to will the people vote for them in an election?�
Sounds like that might be what happened.
Not that I want the former Taliban goat-pokers in charge; but if it’ll keep them calm for a while (until they die off), getting them to run for office would be a good thing. And hey, if they win, fair and square, it was what the people wanted.
