My Big Stupid Friday Post

Yesterday, I apologized to Darth Vader and called myself an idiot and here is why:

Earlier this week I was installing the Easy-Loader follower from Dave’s Metal Works onto Vader and I ground a little too much in one spot and too little in another and ended up bending my follower and follower catch to the point that when the trigger group is inserted into the gun, the bolt won’t come back.

If you look at this schematic, the parts are #’s 17 and 24. They are supposed to interact, but due to my overzealousness with the tools, they no longer do.

To top it off, I had loaded the gun to test the new magazine follower and had a round stuck in the chamber. I had to remove the trigger group from a now loaded 12 gauge without sending an ounce and a quarter of #6 shot through an exterior wall near by work area.

I successfully completed the task, but it didn’t make me feel any smarter.

$45 worth of parts and second day air shipping later, I should have things back to normal on Monday or Tuesday.

I have collected a bunch of links throughout the week to report on and so as to make myself feel better, I’m going to tell you all about the stupid stuff other folks have done this week.

To start off with, Mike the Marine at From the Hall to the Shores Blog is out on the big water for WESTPAC maneuvers and some dingleberry from Seattle writes his unit a little anti-Bush, anti-Jews love letter.

Trouble is, the beginning of the unit’s mailing addy is “Commanding Officer, so guess who go t to read it first?

Stupid.

The author of the letter most likely putting his real address on the envelope.

Definitely stupid.

Next up, Judicious Asininity links to the recent Christopher Hitchens Slate article that asks some very pointed questions about the left,

How can so many people watch this as if they were spectators, handicapping and rating the successes and failures from some imagined position of neutrality? Do they suppose that a defeat in Iraq would be a defeat only for the Bush administration? The United States is awash in human rights groups, feminist organizations, ecological foundations, and committees for the rights of minorities. How come there is not a huge voluntary effort to help and to publicize the efforts to find the hundreds of thousands of “missing” Iraqis, to support Iraqi women’s battle against fundamentalists, to assist in the recuperation of the marsh Arab wetlands, and to underwrite the struggle of the Kurds, the largest stateless people in the Middle East? Is Abu Ghraib really the only subject that interests our humanitarians?

I can answer that for you Mr. Hitchens, it is because the left couldn’t care less about the Iraqis. They don’t care who gets injured or killed just so long as it isn’t them and Bush looks bad.

That and they are absolutely stupid.

Mora at the Babalu Blog finds a story about a Canadian who sunk $100,000 into a house in the people’s paradise that isn’t Cuba only to have castro (aka The Murderous Dictator) take it away and give to one of his cronies.

Stupid Canadian, don’t you know, nice houses are for the privileged classes?

On Wednesday, bloggers across the sphere were talking about the Pentagon’s plans for a ‘march’ in remembrance of September 11th. While a lot of folks aren’t really hip to the idea, I am sitting this one out. I haven’t heard any of the Pentagon employees grumbling about it much and they lost hundreds of their own on that day, so if this is what they want, I’m OK with it.

So that is not the stupid part.

The stupid part is that the NY Daily News went hunting for quotes against the celebration, looked on their speed-dial and found Monica Gabrielle, member of the Family Steering Committee for the 9/11 Commission, member of Member of Coalition of 9/11 Families and 9/11 Families for a Secure America and ardent Bush-Basher along with Kristen Breitweiser .

Of course, this part of the story, the NY Daily doesn’t tell its readers. They need a memory of names to recognize that one.

So that makes them both pretty stupid for thinking they could fool everyone.

And last, but certainly not least, Ravenwood writes about some Canadian officials whining because some firearms from America are making their way into Canada and into criminal hands.

Why is this stupid, you might ask?

Well, because the Canucks want the US border patrol to do something about it. For some reason, it doesn’t even seem to occur to them that maybe THEY need to step up their border security to stop this problem.

I know I’d much rather see gun runners in a Canadian prison where they’ll get no parole and no ‘Time for good behavior’ after their sentenced. Whereas in America, especially in states like New York, they’ll get a slap on the wrist and let out in less than a year even if they DON’T cop a plea.

OK, now I feel better. I may have made a stupid mistake, but at least I didn’t piss off a Marine CO, lose my house to a murderous dictator or show myself to be an international whining bitch.
