The Big Bad Boeing Boogeyman

If you haven’t heard it already, the spoiled children (aka the District 751 of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Union employees) who make parts for Boeing Aircraft Manufacturing have rejected the last contract offer given by the Boeing Company and began their strike last Friday at midnight. I meant to blog on it Friday but got waylaid by other things.

Let me just say: This is going to be good fun to watch.

They union is holding out for heaven and earth to be moved for them and called Boeing’s offer of only making the sun rise and set “An Insult. The union told their members to reject it and they did exactly that, surpassing the necessary 75% to strike with an 86% strike vote.

This could well be the death of the IAMAW. They don’t really have much to bargain with other than the fact that 86% of their members voted to strike last week. Their membership is down in recent years and the Boeing Company has gotten stronger, beating Airbus in the number of orders and quantity of planes ordered.

What the union geeks fail to recognize is that Boeing was smart enough to write strike clauses in their sales contracts so that the company won’t get punished financially if they deliver the planes late. That and Reuters is reporting that analysts don’t see a problem of Boeing losing any ground to airbus if the strike last for the rest of the year.

Barely Governeor Gregoire is ‘concerned’ what the effect of the strike will have on the company. She is really only worried about the sales tax income from Boeing employees spending like there is no tomorrow, as is their habit, especially around Christmas time. If she really cared, she’d get her cronies in the state house to write some new legislature making Washington a Right to Work state. But she doesn’t, so she won’t.

Speaking of the holidays, while Boeing may lose money from incoming new orders, they are going to save millions if they can wait it out until the end of the year so that they don’t have to dish out the huge Christmas bonuses that these spoiled children get every year.

Boeing just has to sit back and wait for these guy’s strike money and personal savings to run out and they can get them all back for the cost of the contract that just expired.

It will be a game of attrition and there is no way Boeing can lose under those rules. First they bankrupt the union, then the employees start coming back one by one for their old contract.

At least, that is my hope for this situation. If Boeing capitulates, they’re consigning themselves to the noose of the union for another 50 years. I am sick and tired of these spoiled children demanding things they haven’t earned every few years. Productivity has been stagnant for a decade and employee skills haven’t gone up.

Around these parts, we call Boeing “The Lazy-B Ranch, and not without reason. This is the same union that has stood up for employees caught sleeping in the rafters while on the clock and for thieves.

Goodbye union, hello newly freed employees.

Does this make it sound as if I don’t like unions?

Good, because I don’t. Working with Teamsters can make a fella like that.

A New Plaything For The Kid

You see that thing over there ————>

That is my “Snark Box”.

I especially asked Joe to make that up for me so that I could put in an easily changeable bit of whatever I feel like at the top of the page.

Today we are featuring some vintage words from Big Daddy Kane.

But you never know what will be there.

I have been going through my albums for bits of songs or battle raps for things to throw in there in the future. I currently have four or five pages in Word format of available stuff to throw in there.

If you have any suggestions as to things to put in there, things like “Every time you read RNS, a hippie drops his hackey-sack in the gutter:â€? hit the ‘E-Mail Me’ tag and send it on in and I’ll take a read of it.

I haven’t been completely honest.

I only kept my promise to not go pointing fingers in relation to here at RNS and have been stopping by at lefty blogs dropping off quotes and links while debunking their talking point myths.

Links like this one, and this one, and this one, and this one.

I got off work early last night because of the holiday and that is where I’ve spent the last few hours.

While I will readily admit that it was a hell of a lot of fun, it means that I don’t have anything researched for today. My apologies for taking up your time. I will try to be a good boy tonight and tomorrow morning and have something good to read.

In the meantime, Rivrdog has found a link that everyone should read that details the time spent by two neighbors trying to keep looters out of their neighborhood.

Very good, very poignant and something I should have left at the anti-gun blogs just to ruffle their feathers.

Finally

At last, I am able to report the results of the rifle portion of the E-Postal Match for August, 2005.

As you may recall, one week after I posted the task, my email went kablooie (I’ve been told that ‘kablooie’ actually is a part of technical computer verbage) and I know I lost some folks results. I have scraped as much of it that I can find together and notified those for whom I had email addys that they might have been lost so that I can finally report on the results today.

And our winner is,

Joe Huffman, founder and host of the annual Boomershoot and blogger at The View From North Central Idaho blog AND the guy who did all the work in redesigning of RNS (for a damn good price, I might add).

Joe shot all 15 of the balls on the Killiards target from 100 yards and was the only one to do so. He did it with his .300 Win Mag (which I believe is a Rem 700) using Black Hills 190gr Ammunition.

He also wins the Big Brass Ones Award for pulling off his last six shots in the dark with only the headlights of his vehicle to see by.

You can see his target here.

I would like to congratulate Joe on his win and will be sending him his certificate.

Some other targets of special note: Mr Completely also shot 15 for 15 balls (including 11 center hits) at a distance of 50 yards from the bench with his scoped Hi-Standard 22 pistol. And the guy wonders why I respect his pistol skills.

The remainder of the scores are below the fold. I would like to thank everyone who participated in August’s rifle e-Postal Match and hope that they stop by next Monday for the target and task for September.

In light of events in New Orleans last week, I have selected a target and task that would apply to said situation.

New Orleans Off Topic

looterswillbeshot.jpg

I wouldn’t advertise so explicitly, but if it served its purpose as a deterent, I’m not going to fault the guy for being long winded.

I swung by Mr. Comlpetely’s place this evening ad found that he had linked to an excellent post on the subject of ‘Disaster Guns’ written by the Confederate Yankee.

It’s a good piece. If you had any questions about your next firearms purchase, that would be a good place to start. I am glad to say that I have everything on the list.

Speaking of on the list, over the weekend I went through some of my lists of equipment and then through the equipment itself last night and ended up cleaning a goodly number of my firearms in the process. They didn’t really NEED it, but what is a guy to do when presented with the hardware he is expecting to save his ass? That and I still had most of the cleaning supplies out from the clean up of Saturday’s all-day range expedition.

While I was engrossed in the maintenance checks and cleanings last night I put my mind into the random thinking process about New Orleans. I guess the disaster preparedness bug has got me wishing I had my archives up so that I could link to the first post about guns and ammo supplies.

Mostly because I have promised myself to stand down from speaking of the blame until after everyone is out that town and cleaned up, I instead ventured into what it must be like to stand in downtown New Orleans, more specifically, the smell.

If you don’t mind, I’m going to lay down a good bit of track here, but rest assured, the Anecdotal Express will reach Conclusion Station.

Shooting The You Know What

Rangeday Saturday was sort of a mixed bag.

One of the good points was that there was not only a great deal of talk about what has happened in New Orleans at the range, there were, in my rough estimate, a record number of new shooters and women shooters there yesterday.

As for the guns and my shooting, I was able to get the 22-250 and the 10-22 sighted in and Mr. Completely’s Postal Match shot, but some of it was a bit rough.

My recently acquired Ruger 77 in 22-250 was a breeze. There was no boresighter available and the old Redfield scope doesn’t have clicks for adjustment or markings to tell me what each line signified (ends up, each line is a half an inch) so I had to wing it at 100 yards..

One shot to get it on paper, three more to get it in the black and then six more to hone it to be an X-Ring eater.

P9040002.JPG

I think those last five shots on the X look pretty good, especially for a factory gun.

The final five rounds left in the box of twenty went into the six inch steel plate hanging at the 200 yard line. Let me just say that since there was little to no wind yesterday, and with this 55 grain projectile cruising at close to 4000 feet per second, I couldn’t notice any drop after doubling the distance: Five shots, five rings of the steel.

After its performance yesterday, I am loath to change anything, but the stock is too short for this hairless monkey and the scope under powered for its potential so I’m making a short list and will implement them slowly.

My 10/22 on the other hand was a total and complete bear to get sighted in.

I started at 100 because I already had my bench set up from sighting in the 22-250. That was a no-go, so I moved to 50 yards. That was mildly better, but even with the 20 inch heavy barrel, the projectiles from my standard velocity ammo just wouldn’t hit near the same place twice so as to dial it in.

I moved over to the benches on the pistol range and started working the target from 25 yards. Now that got results! I got the nickel and dime sized ten shot groups I wanted at that distance and moved back to 50.

P9040001.JPG

Not too bad for a semi-auto with home built add-ons, the cheapest ammo I could find and a monkey working the trigger.

BTW, this is the target for the rifle e-Postal Match. Results will be posted for that match tomorrow.

As for Mr. Completely’s pistol e-Postal match, I shot my 1911, my CZ-83 in .380ACP, the Ruger 22/45 that was frustrating me nearly to death at the last bowling pin match and a Jennings J-22.

Let’s just say that if I don’t take the bottom slot for each category, I will be highly surprised. No excuses, I was just too into the rifles to give myself the adequate psyching out to shoot pistols well yesterday.

Anywhoooo, if you didn’t get out to the range yesterday, I highly suggest that you do so today. Like I said at the beginning of this post, the horrible happenings in New Orleans seems to have done for the firearms and self-protection industry what September 11th did. There are probably going to be a million new gun owners in the coming weeks and they want your range spot.

Go get it while you still can. Then use your knowledge and experience to help these new folks out, keep them safe on the firing line and let them know that they aren’t alone.

Wow

I never knew how much time this blogging thing would take up. Researching my files, selecting the right example, then actually writing something. I think I got in a little too deep this weekend, what with school having just started.

At least I was able to get acquainted with you all yesterday.

I was getting next week’s classroom topics in order, planning on putting this up in the morning after doing the appropriate search for subject matter when one of my new students stopped by with some questions.

I stopped what I was doing so that I could give her my full attention and, well, after dinner and some after-dinner conversation, I just plain forgot to do anything for this.

I’m sure you’ll understand.

And after Miss Jennifer wakes up, I’ll be sure to scold her properly for taking me away from my promised task.

So I guess that today I will just continue on with my examples of incorrect skirt lengths.

Here is another example of ‘too short for public consumption’.

Again, my first year students make this mistake all the time, so it is really not worthy of anything further than a call to the office for even the most egregious of offenders. By their second year, they are usually a bit closer to the correct length of an effective skirt, although I do not push them too quickly.

Saturday Rangeday

Ahh, the weekend is finally here. With the paycheck already spent and the Analog Wife making plans for my Sunday, I am taking today to work out the week’s frustrations at the range.

I’ve got a new 22-250 and my recently re-scoped 10/22 to finally sight in and an e-Postal Match to shoot. I can’t think of a better way to spend six to eight hours in the daylight.

Speaking of Postal Matches, I have finally scraped the results of the August rifle match together. With my email taking a giant dump the week after I released the task, it has been difficult to get them together, but I think I did it and they will be presented Monday.

If you have some spare time, get to the range this weekend. If you learned nothing from the human atrocities that happened along the gulf coast following the devastation of the hurricane, you should have learned that your shooting skills could be called upon at any time. You need to be accurate and you need to effective.

And me sitting here with two rifles that don’t have zeroes is an abomination.

So now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to the range.

Take care yourselves.

An Introduction

Hello everyone, my name is Dr. Lucius Thai. I am an Adjunct Professor of Skirt Theory at Gams University. As you have probably guessed by my name, I work in the Thigh and Calf Studies Department at GU. My thesis which garnered me my current position was in determining the proper lengths or lack thereof in skirts in proportion women’s legs.

Like Professor Booty, my career field has lent me the opportunity to help aspiring models succeed in their chosen career. I have had many students, some of whom you may recognize, go through my courses and become famous in the modeling world.

Now, while I do happen to know about “The ASSignment that Booty has gotten himself wrapped up in, I cannot tell you all about it just yet. He has agreed to let me take over for him here until he is ready to resume his duties.

To say he agreed, would actually be an overstatement. It is more along the lines of the Kid telling Booty that if he can’t show up reliably, he was going to set fire to the Professor’s photographic files and work books. Since this would ruin, Booty, the Professor relented and will be back in the next couple weeks.

In the meantime, I have agreed to substitute for the Booty (unpaid, I might add, you cheapskate, Kid) so that I might disseminate my theory amongst the readers here for their betterment and my ability to finish off paying the Professor back for the massive drink tab I helped him run up during this last February’s Carnival celebration in Rio.

Today I’d like to show you a error some women make when choosing a skirt.

I Got Nothin

I can’t find anything to write about right now other than more vitrol about left wingers blaming the aftermath of Katrina on Bush, and all that would lead to would be more of me blaming it on the leadership of Louisiana, and we don’t need more finger pointing right now.

I will say that I’m not feeling good about Bush’s tour today. I don’t know what it is, but I just got a creeping feeling.

I’m gonna go pay some bills and get some sleep. It is looking like it’ll be another 14 hour night tonight at work. My company hasn’t yet asked for volunteers to head south to help with the clean up in the coming weeks, but I volunteered yesterday afternoon anyway.

Maybe I’ll finally get a chance to meet Nukevet Neal.

Have a good day all and remember to keep yourselves safe.
