State of Emergency

He is in Baton Rouge and his school is helping in the recovery as best they can,

We just got an update about the role of the LSU school of Veterinary medicine in the relief and rescue efforts. There are thousands of abandoned animals to be cared for, and the AG center on campus has been turned into a triage center, and the vet school will serve as an emergency service to provide ICU, surgery, and critical care services as necessary. This was all pretty standard emergency preparedness fare, and we were glad to see that the animals of New Orleans were being cared for as best as we are able. Of course, they still have to be transported from New Orleans to Baton Rouge, almost 100 miles away.

The most chilling news was that our Vet School necropsy area has been taken over by the state as a temporary morgue facility. It makes one wonder what the death toll from Katrina really is. We don’t know if this is just a preparatory move, or if the facility is actually being used at this time.

Keep an eye there for updates on the situation as he can post on it.

The Soundboard: Sucker for a Hook Series

Part 12: Dirty Hook

This is also the last entry in this series. Off topic tunage will continue next Thursday.

Songs dealing with off-color topics are nothing new. Some are put together with non-objectionable language so as to be innocuous or so that only those on the inside or who are ‘hip’ enough can figure them out. Some are even just so cheery that the radio can’t help but play them.

The 70’s hit ‘Afternoon Delight’ falls in that category.

Others get right to the message and don’t care who thinks what or about airplay, like today’s tune. Some even hope that they get stern looks from the anti-Dirty Hook Movements so as to get the highly sought after ’bad press’ that isn’t all that bad.

I don’t know the motives of today’s artists and frankly, I don’t care. I bought their second album for a different tune and it included this song. I was at my favorite ‘import shoppe’ a couple months later, saw the remix single and bought it.

Yes, there are plenty of dirtier or ‘nastier’ songs out there in the music world, but I don’t know that there are even a handful that have the hook this one does. And “The Hook� is what this series is about.

Like I said last week, don’t go downloading and listening to this at work, unless you have a private office or work at a strip club. In the case of the latter, you’ve probably heard this one already.

So here we go:

Caution: Should not be downloaded by fathers of teenage daughters. Their boyfriends probably don’t deserve the hell you’ll be wishing to inflict upon them after listening to this.

There is actually another version of this song I find just a bit too objectionable for public release on RNS. No, I’m not letting Professor Booty post either of them, you’ll have to go buy the single yourself, ya perv.

Oh, and any woman who needs to ask this emphatically, needs to find a new guy.

If you like the new background and header, you can thank Joe Huffman of ‘The View from North Central Idaho’ and “Boomershootâ€? fame for making it work.

He’s going to be doing some more work around the place over the next couple days or so, so if things look a little funny, don’t worry, Joe is most likely in the middle of something (probably some kind of oddball weirdness I asked him to try) and it’ll be fixed in short order. I have the utmost confidence in him.

Looting in New Orleans

We all knew it would happen. Some of us have prepared for it.

Here is a link to the ‘By Ourselves, For Ourselves’ series that I have yet to finish. Unfortunately, the archives are still down so Parts One and Two are not available yet. They dealt with firearms, ammunition and the distribution of them which I’m sure most of us can figure out.

Since I am ‘Cold, Mean, Heartless and Cruel’ (or so I’ve been told), I would not only have declared Martial Law and dusk to dawn curfew orders, I would have issued ‘Shoot On Sight’ orders. Even for those looting for food.

Sorry folks, but they had three days to buy that exact food and/or evacuate beforehand and their entire adult lives to prepare for a natural disaster. I mean, fercrisakes, they live in a region that gets hit by some type of hell every year.

I was listening to loony local leftie Mike Webb on the radio last night and he was able to justify, in his mind at least, the looting of televisions and other big ticket items in the wake of the devastation.

I cannot.

On his show, a woman called in claiming to have spoken to relatives in Baton Rouge and described the looting of the Winn-Dixie as so bad that people were dragging the store shelves home.

Anecdotal, to be sure, but believable. Desperate people will steal anything.

Which is why you really need to get yourself prepared. Not only will desperate people steal anything, over time, they will go to extreme lengths to get it, including kill you.

Be ready for everything, everyday.

More Revisionism

Oliver Willis (Occupation: Toole) proves that he needs to revise his byline.

Partial quote of Howard Dean’s statement in regards to the 60th Anniversary of WWII:

â€?Democratic Presidents Roosevelt and Truman led America to victory in World War II because they laid out a clear plan for success to the American people, America’s allies and America’s troops.â€?

Umm, Howard, no they didn’t. They’re plan was as follows:

‘Total and unconditional surrender from each of the Axis powers. America will fight until we succeed or we are beaten’.

Truman took weeks to be brought up to speed with what was happening in the War Department after Roosevelt’s death and was startled to find out about the Manhatten Project and their products.

Bush’s strategy is pretty much the same: Elimination of terrorists and their supporting states and organizations.

Cheney is aware of the decisions made by the President and the Pentagon in the WoT.

Sounds to me like Bush and Cheney are doing a better job than Roosevelt and Truman.

I wonder if Ollie and Deano would be supportive of the vast amount of media control, news censorship and propaganda that Roosevelt and Truman employed?

After linking to Dean’s entire statement, Oliver says that he thinks Dean stops by his site for talking points.

Wouldn’t surprise me a bit when you look at what Willis said when the Able Danger story first broke:

“My response to this is usually along the following lines: George Bush was the President, and thus, in charge on 9/11″

Heya O-Dub, that response is equal to saying ‘Yes, I was in the room earlier today, but Jimmy was in the room when you found the broken lamp, Mom. Therefore he must have broken it.’

And just as childish as well.

Video Killed No One

The radio star was a whiny bitch.

For some non-whiny bitches, you should go to Nukevet Neal’s place and watch this short video he took of Hurricane Katrina shaking the trees on his property in Baton Rouge.

Then come back and download this video.

Jerry the Geek has the coolest camera I’ve seen. It does everything well, including shoot good mpeg video.

It is 11.2 megs and it shows one of the the best competitors from the Practical Shotgun Match, who shoots under the moniker “Norm the Ungrateful”, going to town on Stage 6.

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

First up, the Good: The non-corporately funded protesters in Crawford, TX

Now, the Bad: From a contest held by conspiracy theorists extraordinaire, “9/11 Truth Alliance�.

The contest involved, and I know this will surprise you, creative artwork (although, papier-mâché puppets were not accepted).

And finally, the Ugly: The contest had a “Youth Category� for the “moonbats In Training�.

In first place was seventeen year old Frances Yun.

In second place was TEN YEAR OLD Hannah Stutz.

Sounds Like Freedom to Me

If you haven’t already, go here and take a look at the draft of the Iraqi Constitution.

I have read it and am inspired by the Iraqi legislators and their wanting to make a better Iraq after the sacrifices by not only our country and it’s fighting men and women, but also the other countries joining us there and the Iraqi people themselves.

Let’s just say that they’re not screwing around.

Even just reading the preamble is inspiring and something every Iraqi should be proud of. Hell, I’m a white guy from Seattle and I’m proud of them.

The left, of course, is going to harp on a couple points. Mostly because they cannot stand that “Bush’s illegal War� is going to amount to something after all the money and effort they put into hating him and his administration.
