Two Words

I have only two words for Santiago Pedraz, the Spanish judge who issued warrants of arrest for the US Army tankers who fired at the hotel in Baghdad at what they thought to be a jihadi with an anti-tank weapon.

RNS Quote of the Day: Mega Quote

Since it is Friday, I’ll be posting up a mondo-sized quote to give folks something to think about over the weekend.

This one involves the Democratic Party platform of 1960. When I read it, I had to think about the line I hear every now and then about “if JFK were alive today he’d be a Republican. After reading their platform from the year he was elected President, I have to wonder about that.

It also takes away my surprise at the junk that LBJ helped stick us with.

So read and absorb, I’ll have the follow up to it on Monday.

Let the Whaling Begin

The Makah tribe on the coast of Washington is attempting to get permission to hunt whales again next spring and the wailing (pun intended) and gnashing of teeth has begun from environmentalists.

I am in full support of letting these guys go out on the open water and try their hand at bagging themselves a big smelly sea mammal, and not just because it pisses off the earthfirsters, but because there is evidence coming out that we might just have a local over-population of whales.

I like to call it ‘Thinning the Pod’.

I also like the idea because it forces the aboriginal worshipping left to remember that “indians weren’t the peace-loving little forest pixies that they would like to portray them as. The natives of the North American continent, as every person who doesn’t hate the westward expansion of paleface knows, conducted wars against other tribes, committing murder, rape and arson along with engaging in cannibalism and conducting a slave trade.

They also hunted for no good reason other than they wanted to kill something. Such is the case of this whale hunt today and the whale hunts of this tribe in history. They didn’t hunt whales for food, it was a ‘manhood ritual’.

Now, those opposed to this hunt will try and tell you otherwise if you bring it up, but they’re either ignorant or lying since the Makah’s own website says differently.

Whales gave oil, meat, bone, sinew and gut for storage containers: useful products, though gained at a high cost in time and goods. Only families already wealthy could afford such outlay. Only such outlay rewarded with the highest possible prestige.

Who’s got the biggest stack of chips and brass gonads was the intent of the whale hunt. The Makah were fat on salmon and vension to the point that the first white settlers to the area were amazed at their lifestyle.

The one point I would conceed to the anti-whale hunt types is that the modern day hunters have a few new tools that their ancestors didn’t. Things like boats with internal combustion engines, waterproof/thermal clothing and a .50 caliber rifle.

Yep, the Makah are out shooting Grey Whales with a Barrett 50.

This piece of equipment was actually OK’d by the enviro-weenies because the thought of the hunters killing a whale with 20-25 spears sounded too grisly.

I’ll try to stay up on this for y’all, but I suspect that if the tribe is successful, it will be national news again and you won’t need me to watch it.

Just a couple quick questions

Brought to mind by the trial of Saddam Hussein.

Is it a coincidence that both Hussein and the folks on the left call the invasion of Iraq “An Illegal War?

Also, why are ‘progressives’ against progress in Iraq?

Just wonderin’.

The Soundboard: Quote of the Day Edition

With all of this Randiness going on on a daily basis around these parts, I figured I had better make an effort to post the song I had originally intended to post last week before my co-worker got all snarky about the band Rush. Today’s tune is from the same album that last week’s tune, 2112, was on, which was why I was listening to said album in the first place.

Rush and Ayn Rand have a bit of a connection according to some and I would tend to agree after hearing and buying their entire library, though I am not positive.

Just looking at the 2112 album, the title track (actually a saga of sorts) has been compared to Rand’s book ‘Anthem’ and Peart has admitted that he was reading said book during the time he wrote 2112. Also, the opening track of the album ‘Fly By Night’ as well as the band’s publishing company are titled ‘Anthem’. But Rand never made mention or even seemed to take notice of the group, probably mostly due to her vehement dislike of rock music. So form your own opinion.

But enough of that, let’s get to some tunage.

Something for Nothing – Rush

BTW, you will find the snark box has been refilled with words from this tune.

Enjoy!

RNS Quote of the Day

To violate man’s rights means to compel him to act against his own judgment, or to expropriate his values. Basically, there is only one way to do it: by the use of physical force. There are two potential violators of man’s rights: the criminal and the government. The great achievement of the United States was to draw a distinction between these two – by forbidding to the second the legalized version of the activities of the first.

I can put him in the truck

But I’ll have to charge you by the pound

This report was found at TBIFOC:

A southeast Houston resident killed a suspected robber he said had been hiding in a trash can in his yard.

The resident told police he arrived home around 3 a.m. today and was opening the front door to his house in the 100 block of North Carolina when he heard a noise and turned around to see an unknown man pointing a gun at him.

The resident took out his own gun and shot the man multiple times, police said, then went to a neighbor’s home to call police. He reported seeing two other men flee.

The robbery suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lawrence, is his usual style makes a funny:

Remember… dead burglars are not recyclable.

He is so right. Plus, the packer unit on the truck tends to act as a juicer on objects as water-based as a torso and makes a hell of a mess. Let’s just say that you can easily tell when all of the rats didn’t make it out of the dumpster in time.

RNS Quote of the Day

The concept of individual rights is so new in human history that most men have not grasped it fully to this day. In accordance with the two theories of ethics, the mystical or the social, some men assert that rights are the gift of god – others that rights are a gift of society. But, in fact, the source of rights in man’s nature.

The Declaration of Independence stated that men “are endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights. Whether one believes that man is the product of a creator or of nature, the issue of man’s origin does not alter the fact that he is an entity of a specific kind – a rational being – that he cannot function successfully under coercion, and that rights are a necessary condition of his particular mode of survival.

Free at Last

From Jerry the Geek comes the reminder that as of tomorrow, residents of Alaska will no longer need a permit to carry their pistols and revolvers concealed.

As it should be.

I thought Alaska was looking good to reside in a few years ago. The wife is running out of excuses now.

In international affairs, Barb at Righty in a Lefty State posted this pic from Saturday’s Iraqi elections.

Iraqipolice.jpg

Notice the way he holds his AK? Notice which hand and which finger is inked?

When I saw this pic I immediately saw symbolism in that this policeman’s trigger finger has been inked. If he needed to use that rifle against anyone trying to disrupt the polling, it would be his inked finger, the one that shows him to be a free man, that would send the bullets flying, hopefully ending the life of a terrorist POS.

And last, but not least, Kevin Baker has a wonderful idea for National Ammo Day (just over a month away, BTW).

Because of an article that tells the tale of Wal-Mart employees calling the police after a guy bought 1000 rounds of 9mm ammo, he has a plan to scare the pants off of them.

On the afternoon of Nov. 19, at 3:30PM Central time or as close as practicable, a bunch of us (me included) are going to go to our local WalMart and buy as much of the Winchester white-box or Remington value-packs of ammo as we can afford – preferably every bit in stock, in our preferred caliber(s). We’re kind of interested to see if it rings any bells anywhere.

I’ll sign up for that program in the south Seattle area. I may even take the opportunity to update my small DVD collection too

Someone else suggested picking up a copy of Red Dawn on DVD at the same time.

I’ve only got the VHS, so I believe some updating is in order.
