From Jerry the Geek comes the reminder that as of tomorrow, residents of Alaska will no longer need a permit to carry their pistols and revolvers concealed.

As it should be.

I thought Alaska was looking good to reside in a few years ago. The wife is running out of excuses now.

In international affairs, Barb at Righty in a Lefty State posted this pic from Saturday’s Iraqi elections.

Notice the way he holds his AK? Notice which hand and which finger is inked?

When I saw this pic I immediately saw symbolism in that this policeman’s trigger finger has been inked. If he needed to use that rifle against anyone trying to disrupt the polling, it would be his inked finger, the one that shows him to be a free man, that would send the bullets flying, hopefully ending the life of a terrorist POS.

And last, but not least, Kevin Baker has a wonderful idea for National Ammo Day (just over a month away, BTW).

Because of an article that tells the tale of Wal-Mart employees calling the police after a guy bought 1000 rounds of 9mm ammo, he has a plan to scare the pants off of them.

On the afternoon of Nov. 19, at 3:30PM Central time or as close as practicable, a bunch of us (me included) are going to go to our local WalMart and buy as much of the Winchester white-box or Remington value-packs of ammo as we can afford – preferably every bit in stock, in our preferred caliber(s). We’re kind of interested to see if it rings any bells anywhere.

I’ll sign up for that program in the south Seattle area. I may even take the opportunity to update my small DVD collection too

Someone else suggested picking up a copy of Red Dawn on DVD at the same time.

I’ve only got the VHS, so I believe some updating is in order.

“Red Dawn”, huh. It needs to be updated. Those troops parachuting into town now would be, not Soviet, but BATFE.

I’m with you on the mass ammo buy. If Wal-Mart has instituted a policy of trying to involve the local rozzers with every large ammo buy, that rips it with me and them. I spent a lot of political capital here this summer fighting FOR Wal-Mart and against local NIMBYs who didn’t want them to build a new store in my burg.

I might have to about-face and join the NIMBYs now.
