Postal Match Rules Update

I have gotten a few questions in regards to the rules for the October e-Postal Match so here is just a quick post to clarify a few things.

You can only have 10 shots per pair of targets. I know I said you could shoot it as many time as you liked, but I meant that you could shoot as many sets of targets as you want.

The target is not allowed to move once you start shooting it. For example, there is no shooting the big squares at 100 yards and then you move the target closer as the squares get bigger. Likewise, you may not place the target with four squares on it far away and the six square target closer. I will be placing both targets on the same target board and going for it, so should you.

I apologize for any confusion this may have caused. If there are any other items I may have left out or left you wondering about, please feel free to email me with questions.

I’m not even surprised

And you probably won’t be either.

From the Radio Equalizer:

“Now that Air America’s chased away nearly every potential corporate advertiser, isn’t it fitting the Revolutionary Communist Party (RCP) has emerged as a key sponsorship source?”

Debra Sweet being interviewd by the RCP magazine ‘The Revolution’

Revolution: Travis Morales was on a Chicago Spanish station, linking Nov. 2 with protests against the Minutemen vigilantes. And on worldcantwait.org, people can get audio files of an interview by Air America’s Mike Malloy with Sunsara Taylor talking about the urgency of driving out the Bush regime, starting November 2nd. You’re also running ads on the Air America radio network. What kind of response are you getting?.

Debra Sweet: We’ve tapped into something in the Air America audience of about 5 million. After running ads on Air America nationally for only two days, we increased traffic on our web site about 800 percent, got many more people to sign the Call, and raised a significant amount of money.

You really need to go read the rest of the Equalizer’s post to see just how delusional these people are. I am having to fight the urge to laugh at them.

Oops, I just lost that battle!

RNS Quote of the Day

The concept of a ‘right’ pertains only to action – specifically, to freedom of action. It means freedom from physical compulsion, coercion or interference by other men.

Thus, for every individual, a right is the moral sanction of a positive – of his freedom to act on his own judgment, for his own goals, by his own voluntary, uncoerced choice. As to his neighbors, his rights impose no obligations on them except of a negative kind: to abstain from violating his rights.

The right to life is the source of all rights – and the right to property is their only implementation. Without property rights, no other rights are possible. Since man has to sustain his life by his own effort, the man who has no right to the product of his effort has no means to sustain his life. The man who produces while others dispose of his product, is a slave.

Bear in mind that the right to property is a right to action, like all the other: it is not the right to an object, but to the action and the consequences of producing or earning that object. It is not a guarantee that a man will earn any property, but only a guarantee that he will if he earns it. It is the right to gain, to keep, to use and to dispose of material values.

Announcements and an Introduction

First up, if you didn’t stop by RNS yesterday, I’d like to point toward this post. Joe has followed up with updates on the matter here and here.

Next, I would like to let everyone know that I will be taking a vacation, from both work and blogging, here in a couple weeks. But fear not, as I have rounded up a couple of very competent folks who will be manning the master controls of BlogStation RNS in my absence, which leads me to the introduction.

I would like to introduce a fella I met and shot with at Boomershoot 2005. You might know him from his comments here at RNS; I’d like you all to meet David (next post down). Besides being a legal eagle from the San Francisco bay area, David is also a good shooter with a fine taste for rifles and is an all around smashing bloke who I am sure will entertain and inform.

Give him a warm welcome while he takes a couple weeks of ‘On Deck’ time to ready himself for the full-time spot here.

The second fill-in blogger shall remain unnamed until the ‘Time of the Great Kid Ghosting’ gets a little closer and they get some free time. But I think you’ll be quite amazed at the talent I’ve got lined up.

The last announcement is that I subconsciously decided that sleep was much more beneficial than going to the range to shoot the latest e-Postal Match target yesterday and apparently shut my alarm off without getting up. So we’ll have to wait until next weekend to punch that paper.

Oh, one more announcement: I have received final clearance from The Control Tower (read:the Analog Wife) to import moderate quantities of explosives into the house (read: reloading components). I will be researching benches and equipment this week and start my purchasing next weekend.

One-and-a-half-inch groups at a quarter-mile — with a handgun

This year’s Boomershoot was my first long-range shooting event, and practicing for Boomershoot was the first time I’d ever picked up a rifle. So I was pretty much the ultimate newbie and way over my head (as the Analog Kid found out — he suffered the effects of my novice spotting with grace and good humor).

What on earth led me to think that even I could hit little Boomers way out there? It was inspiration I’d been carrying around since I read a 1995 article about Don Bower.

Schwarzenegger’s told of how as a kid he was inspired by the sight of bodybuilders pressing hundreds of pounds, where his friends were intimidated. Well, I had a similar reaction in 1995 when I read John Eaton’s astonishing (to me) article in American Rifleman about Don Bower.

Bower had sent a critical letter-to-the-editor of American Rifleman in 1993, complaining that:

“Since 1981 I have been successfully rechambering existing T/C Contender 14″ barrels to unprecedented achievements. I shoot consistent 1-1/2” center to center 3-shot groups all day long at 500 meters. … Yet after years of trying to get the news out I have been shunned….

Mark Steyn Needs A New Car

I found a link to this tale at SondkaK’s place

Mr. Steyn writes about the dearth of the words ‘Islam’ or ‘Muslim’ in the media’s reports on the attacks in Russia.

When the NPR report started, I was driving on the vast open plains of I-91 in Vermont and reckoned, just to make things interesting, I’ll add another five miles to the speed for every minute that goes by without mentioning Islam. But I couldn’t get the needle to go above 130

When I read this, my first reaction was to write Steyn and tell him to have his people get ahold of my people and I’d make some suggestions on how to get more out of his car (and install an after market speedo). If he is going to have the hairs-you-know-wheres to play this game with NPR, I want him to be good at it. Hell, my truck will probably do 130. I know it does 120, and while it is not a pleasant experience, I’m pretty sure I can get it above that with barely any prep.

But then I read the next line,

and the vibrations caused the passenger-side wing-mirror to drop off.

Ok folks, so here’s the task: Write the folks who pay Mr. Steyn and tell them he needs a pay raise so that he can buy a better car for this game. Since he’s dealing with NPR, he’s going to need a lot of cash so that he can get himself the Jag 220 or possibly a McLaren, both of which can get up to 220MPH with the right guy behind them.

You have your mission.

RNS Quote of the Day

A “Right is a moral principle defining and sanctioning a man’s freedom of action in a social context. There is only one fundamental right (all others are its consequences or corollaries): A man’s right to his own life. Life is a process of self-sustaining and self-generated action; the right to life means the right to engage in self-sustaining and self generated action – which means: the freedom to take all the actions required by nature of a rational being for the support, the furtherance, the fulfillment and the enjoyment of his own life. Such is the meaning of the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Go Now

Joe at The View From North Central Idaho got some horrible news Friday night.

His nephew currently stationed in Iraq was wounded, quite severely, when a bomb exploded under his HUMMV.

Whatever you do in these circumstances, pray, light a candle, etc, please do so for Joe’s newphew, Jason. The young man has earned it many times over.

All other functions at RNS Central will cease for today and I wish only the best for Jason and his whole family.

S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y

All day long, daddy-o.

OK, work week over, time to get the real work done.

But before all that, a funny tale from Cowboy Blob,

I think my brain just got tasered this morning.

I went through the drive-thru at Hardee’s to get breakfast, and I ordered a biscuit and a small iced tea. When I got the tea, it wasn’t all the way full – it was about an inch an a half low. I pointed this out to the girl in the drive-thru window and asked for it to be filled all the way up. Her response was mystifying.

She said, “You don’t want to fill it all the way. When all that ice melts, it’s going to overflow.”

Some folks work fast food because they need the money, some folks, well, you get the idea.

Don’t forget to take a run through this weeks Carnival of Cordite! Mr. Completely wins Blog of the Week honors.

Well alrighty then! I’m off to gather up some log-sawing time and then move some more furnitre around before I ready the implements of chalk cube destruction for some rangetime tomorrow.

Oh, and I bought my first one of these yesterday.

Amazon was having a sale and I couldn’t resist. Yeah, I know I a couple years behind. Give me a break, I’m Analog.

Not all about rights

Howdy folks, Professor Booty here with some not so good news.

Despite what the Kid and his new Quote of the Day postings have to say, life isn’t all about rights.

Don’t get me wrong, rights can be good.

But so can lefts.
