Danke Ho Tay

I’d like to thank everyone for their get well soon wishes over the past couple days. Things within Casa De Analog are slowly improving and I was able to lay almost horizontally for about an hour yesterday.

I went in for a more extensive set of x-rays yesterday afternoon and will be showing my mug at the physician’s office this morning to have her take a look-see and let me know what she thinks.

Other than that, I’ve just been watching my recently delivered Aeon Flux DVDs and re-watching the Star Wars and Harry Potter series of movies to try and keep the boredom to a minimum. Reading was nearly impossible due to nearly day long double vision from the medication and the endless coughing. Typing was even more frustrating.

I think that I’ll clean all my guns today as I’ve tired of the TV as an entertainment tool and I keep wanting to go to the range, but with more snow advisories in the weather forecast, I just can’t believe that doing so would be to my advantage physically.

Also, as one RNS regular, NordicThug, stated in his email,

Be advised, it will be a good month before your head is screwed on right again. Be got-dam careful doing things like shooting and driving your car.

I have been avoiding leaving the house for any reason besides medical trips, not only because I feel like shit and because the wife has to drive (she drives a car I have to fold myself into), but also because with the medications I’m on, I don’t really think I should be packing. Yeah, I could find cover and draw, but I’m not so sure about hitting an intended target due to the aforementioned double vision.

Anyway, I’ll hopefully be able to get back to work ASAP as I’m sure the tasks there are piling up and I’ll keep everyone posted from here. Thanks again, AK

RNS Quote of the Day

The right to agree with others is not a problem in any society; it is the right to disagree that is crucial. It is the institution of private property that protects and implements the right to disagree – and thus keeps the road open to man’s most valuable attribute (valuable personally, socially and objectively): The Creative Mind.

This is the cardinal difference between capitalism and collectivism.

Nu-nu-pneumonia

So I wake up yesterday afternoon and feel like crap. Eh, I go to work anyway. I don’t deal with that many people and the ones I do deal with I can warn to stay away lest they get whatever it was I had.

Work is going along swimmingly until around midnight when I find that I cannot continue to work without blasting the AC in the office.

Now, we were under a snow advisory last night here in Seattle (/sarcasm/ and what a frightful venture that was, let me tell you /sarcasm/) so you can imagine the looks on people’s faces when they walk into my area and it is a right 45 degrees and windy in there!

At around 0530, I get home and attempt to go to sleep only to find that no position past 100% vertical allows me to breath. Crap!

Off to the physician’s office I go to wait as one of those without an appointment. An hour later and I’m being told to breath heavy, suck on this here nebulizer and keep spitting up as much of that crap as you can until we can get you in for a chest x-ray.

X-ray done and pneumonia was the case that they gave me, along with a half a dozen prescriptions. Let’s see: two different types of vapor inhalers, some weird steroid liquid, a large bottle of antibiotics, a weird sort of powder shooter inhaler type thing, and, my personal favorite, liquid vicadin with codine.

I have called my work and given them the bad news that I’ll be home for at least the next three days trying not to drown in my own bodily fluids and to not expect me in until maybe Friday, possibly Monday.

I just wish I could enjoy this new found time off, but this shit hurts! I’ve coughed so much that my kidney panels are sore, not to mention that I can’t get an appetite up to eat anything.

But hey, at least you’ll have me here! And you never know what will happen when all of these prescriptions interact!

Ultimate SHTF Vehicle

This truck is based on a Ford F-550 chassis, armored all over, with a spare generator so you don’t have to idle the engine to run a/c, and reportedly battle-tested, having withstood an IED recently without loss of life or major damage.

Oh, yeah, it costs $200,000. Cheaper than a Stryker, I think, but still out of my budget.

Word is that this was originally called “The Warthog,” but local Muslims took offense, so ’twas renamed “The Rock.” Looks like a warthog to me….

RNS Quote of the Day

A rational mind does not work under compulsion; it does not subordinate its grasp of reality to anyone’s orders, directives or controls; it does not sacrifice its knowledge its view of the truth, to anyone’s opinions, threats, wishes, plans or ‘welfare’. Such a mind may be hampered by others, it may be silenced, proscribed, imprisoned or destroyed; it cannot be forced; a gun is not an argument.

Sick as a dog

In general, I don’t like children, which is why I don’t have any. Sure, some of them are fine little people, but the majority of the little buggers are straight up monsters whose parents treat them as pets.

My house is not “kid proofâ€?. When I heard that my brother-in-law and his family (including 4 kids) were coming out to visit, I spent a week locking stuff down and putting stuff up, and I know these kids and they’re quite well behaved. If I didn’t like them, I’d have left my sharp objects randomly lying about and made the parents pay to clean my carpets afterwards.

Yet it is during the holidays that I am exposed to the children of strangers, because there is no one stranger than my relatives.

And it is always during the holidays that I catch some sort of freakish bug from the ankle biting little Typhoid Marys that will knock me out for close to a week, as it is now.

If I ever wanted to know what it felt like to be a fish out of water, I now know. I can’t sleep because I can’t breath without waking myself up, I didn’t notice that I hadn’t eaten for 18 hours yesterday and all I can do is be thankful I quit smoking at the beginning of this month, otherwise I’d be a real bear to deal with because I think that for me to have a cigarette right now would be to go into total vapor lock.

So if I don’t pop in very frequently over the next couple days, just picture me buried in empty Kleenex boxes and Nyquil bottles. Daivd will be by a couple times int he next couple days, having found blogging material over this weekend.

Craig is still working on the new site, there being an oddity happening when the three years of archives were imported over. I’ve picked a very nice template that he is customizing for RNS use and it should take care of any margin issues we may have had in the past.

So stay safe and, unlike myself, stay healthy.

From the Black Sea, With Love

That’ll be how some of the members of the US military will be signing their letters home in the next decade if this goes through,

Romania and the United States have agreed to a deal to establish American military bases on the Black Sea, Romanian President Traian Basescu said on Thursday.

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice may travel to Romania next month to sign the agreement, Basescu told Euronews television in an interview posted on the presidency’s Web site.

Basescu said last month that possible sites for U.S. bases included Babadag, close to the Danube delta, Constanta on the Black Sea, and Fetesti, 125 miles east of Bucharest.

Constanta in the summer time is better than anything that the fly-infested south of france can offer. Or so I’m told. And think of how close Greece is! Can’t do that from Germany!

It’s Not Funny, But It’s True

Found at Knowledge is Power where they are having a problem with the permalinks.

Personally, I think that it was the Headmistress’ shower with TUA that wonked the the system.

You don’t always get what you pay for

Read this and let it sink in,

A divided U.N. General Assembly committee approved a resolution Thursday expressing “serious concern” about reports of widespread human rights violations in North Korea.

The vote on the resolution, sponsored by the European Union, was 84 in favor, 22 against, and 62 abstentions, a reflection of the deep split in the world body over the broad issue of human rights and the narrower one of how to tackle abuses.

So, to the AP “84 votes against/no opinion shows a ‘deep split as to how to tackle human rights abuses’?

If starving and murdering your own citizens doesn’t seem to be something that should be classified as “Wrong to half of the UN, just why do we even give them a dime?

UN Ambassador Bolton said that there wouldn’t be much of a loss if the UN Building lost ten floors. I contend that if hell itself opened up, swallowed the building whole and then closed up again, we could actually call that a plus since Manhatten would have space for a brand spanking new parking garage.
