Who, What, Where, When, Why, How: Part 7

Note: Again, just one message so far this week, but it has numerous pictures and he seems to have gotten out of at least the big trouble he was in.

Here is where we left the Professor last week…

——————–

We turned and ran back down the hall which we had came after disabling the door from the outside again. We then exited the door into the main room again with the hanging furniture. My two hostesses were stirring a bit and, if we weren’t in such an apparent hurry, I’m sure that Mack Sauer would have knocked them cold again. Something about them truly made him angry.

We turned and went through the only other exit from this room, which was the way Mack had entered. To say that it had seen some demolition would be just a bit of and understatement. The door was lying a few feet away on the floor and the from was more of a ragged rectangular shaped hole.

Mack started tossing parts of the old door and wall out of the way so that we could get through. “We’ve got about five or six minutes or so before Candice’s goons show up. Quit staring and give me a hand.” I started working on the left hand side of the doorway while he did the right side. In just a minute or so we finally had a path clear enough to crouch our way through.

I don’t know what Mack hit this thing with, but it looked as though he had used a missle, as this side of the doorway had been on fire. We got back to the room I had woken up in and stepped out onto the courtyard.

I heard Mack say “Look out!” and then he pushed me to the ground. There was another woman wandering around the side of the house looking very distraught over what Mack had done to the house.

spankable183.jpg

I don’t think she even heard us.

We started running in the opposite direction of her, Mack looking everywhere. His head appeared to be on a swivel. He looked aroudn the corner, pointed his pistol and told someone to get up against the wall.

spankable184.jpg

I had figured it couldn’t have been Candice’s goons.

He ordered her to walk back the way we had just come from and into the house. She didn’t speak, but she did silently refuse at first. He cocked back as if to knock her out as well, but instead said that if she didn’t get to Candice in the next 4 minutes, that her office was going to explode. That set her off like a rocket.

We kept on running for what seemed like forever, but was really only the four minutes Mack had spoken of to the woman against the wall. I knew this because I heard a rather large explosion come from the direction of the house.

As I turned around, Mack grabbed me by the arm and said “No looking back. We’ve got to keep going. Hopefully, that took care of those broads and their toughguys. But we’ve got to keep going. I’m supposed to have a rendezvous with transport another mile out in 10 minutes. If we’re late, they’ll leave without us.”

I shrugged and kept running.

Mack slowed his pace a bit and asked me if I could talk yet. I was so tired I didn’t even try and just shook my head. He said “I’ll explain everything once we reach the transport, Professor. But for now you’ve got to try and get to talking and to remembering what happened before you woke up in that hellhouse.”

I nodded and we kept running.

A few moments later, Mack signalled me to stop and I gladly did so. We kneeled down near the bottom of a cliff-face, on one side of what seemed to be a corner on the cliff. He checked his watch. “Right on time”, he said. “Any minute now.”

We waited for a minute. Then two, then four, but still no one was coming.

Mack told me to stand and we started walking around the corner. There was a helicopter there, but it was smoking from the cockpit and there were two men lying on the ground. Mack uttered the exact phrase I was thinking when out from a divet in the cliff stepped two ladies, arm in arm.

I knew that this couldn’t be good. Especially when Mack said “Oh, Shit.”

Here we go a’legislatin

As you probably noticed from the posts yesterday, Mr. Completely and I went on down to Olympia to attend the hearing for SB-5197, the anti-gun show bill.

If you’re in Western Washington and didn’t attend, you missed out, boy, let me tell you what.

We left and arrived early so that we could chat with John Rothlin, Communications Director for the Washington House Republicans, with whom we had had a conference call with on Tuesday, and so that I could drop letters that resembled the one I posted yesterday off to my elected representatives. Sadly, all three of the officals from my 27th LD, my Senator Debbie Regala, and my Representatives, Dennis Flannigan and Jeannie Darneille, have co-sponsored either SB-5197 or its companion bill in the House, HB-1026.

We chatted with Mr. Rothlin for a little while and he made sure to give us letters from more law enforcement agencies asking the head of the Dept. of Corrections, Secretary Harold Clarke, about certian questionable policies of his agency. I’ll share those with you in the near future.

Before leaving the House offices, I stopped by Rep. Darneille’s office to drop off my letter. She wasn’t in, but her receptionist took the letter and actually thanked me for it and said she would give it to her.

Rep. Flannigan’s receptionist, on the other hand, seemed ready for an argument and tried to grill me as to the reason for my opposition to HB-1026. I answered her questions, a little taken aback due to the pointedness of her questions and her attitude as though what else would a properly thinking individual believe but that shutting down gun shows was a good way to keep guns out of the hands of criminals.

But what are you going to do, except answer the questions. So I did.

When we first approached the House offices, which are separated by a courtyard from the Senate offices, there were about 100 people standing out in the courtyard waiting to be let in. It was two hours before the hearing and the room was still currently occupied by a different committee’s hearing and that was the staging area. But during the time we had spent with Mr. Rothlin and then me dropping off my letters, the crowd had all moved inside.

I think I can safely say that there were more than 100 people there then.

Looking East

P2080008.JPG

The line went around the corner to the left and then back along the wall into the hall.

Looking West

P2080009.JPG

And there were more people arriving every minute.

We both signed in on the proper (read: Con) sheets for the hearing. Not long after we did so, they ran out of sign in sheets and had to get more.

If you look in the foreground of the West photo, you will see one of the members of the Washington State Patrol. I counted no less than five of them acting as security in the hallway. However, I never saw one of them not smiling or even have to raise his voice to the crowd that was growing upwards to 400 people. Just like a counter protest to a MoveOn.Org demonstration, the constabulary knows they have nothing to fear from this side of the argument.

With still 30 minutes to go before the hearing started, I headed up to the second floor to drop off my letter to Senator Regala. Her office wasn’t diffcult to find. In fact it caught my attention rather easily when I saw this sign posted on the open door leading in.

P2080006.JPG

Yeah, I’m sure my letter is going to last a good, long time in her hands.

Shortly after I took the East/West photos, Seattle Police Chief, Gil Kerlikowskie, walked through as fast as he could. If I hadn’t put my camera away, I would have taken a picture of him as evidence that he didn’t leave his service pistol in his car this time, to be stolen.

Not long after that, they opened up Hearing Room #4, which filled up very quickly. After the committee that was taking up the adjoining Hearing Room #1 had completed their business, it was opened up and again, filled up quickly.

Mr. C and I were able to get into the next room opened up for this hearing, “Conference Room #1” and grab seats. All of the rooms, we were told, had video links such as the one we enjoyed.

P2080010.JPG

And there we sat, for very close to two hours, listening to Senator Jeanne Kohl-Welles, LCR&D Chair, play partisan politics via the gavel over those testifying.

Since there were so many people signed up, they basically divided up the leaders of the organizations into pro and con groups, then made two groups out of each of the speakers, and then gave each of the four groups 12 minutes to speak and then answer questions from the committee.

I have video taken from the same angle as the last photo of the vast majority of the hearing (approx. 1hr and 15mins). I have MP3 audio of the rest (approx. 38min).

And therein lies the problem: I have so much media to go through and so little time until this weekend to go through it (I’m employed, you see, and not one of those Indymedia leeches).

I’ll be splitting up the segments into watchable bites and then converting them to a watchable format over the weekend and have them up bright and early on Monday.

I shit you not, if you didn’t make it, you missed out. There were quite a few rounds of applause made for the anti-SB-5197 folks testifying and some very good counterpoints/questions made by the anti-SB-5197 folks on the committee for the pro-SB-5197 people testifying.

Normally, watching government in action is like watching paint dry. This, however, is like watching gun bigots get their asses handed to them on their own turf.

Sorry to disappoint, but I’ve got a schedule to keep here to keep the income flowing in a positive direction.

RNS Quote of the Day: 02/09/07

I don’t know who said this, hence the “Anon” listing, but I think it fits in with the legislative activites of yesterday.

Worshipping an electron would be rather pointless, although one should have a little respect for the buggers if they gang up like, say, the number present in a lightning bolt.

Anonymous

While I may have felt like an electron, stopping by to talk to my legislators, I didn’t feel like I needed to be worshipped. Listened to would have been nice though.

However, I think that as a group, all of us gun-nutty electrons became a figurative lightning bolt. Though, as you’ll see in the video on Monday, the respect was still a bit lacking.

My Wife is a True Fan

I’m fighting a nasty sinus infection that’s now migrated to my chest, so I haven’t been paying attention to what’s been on the tube lately. I just slogged into the kitchen to take my meds and try to eat something and noticed my wife was watching the Super Bowl on the NFL Network. Yes, the Super Bowl from this past Sunday.

I made a comment. “Go ahead and watch the news while you eat,” she giggled. “I already watched it again yesterday.”

How I love her! It doesn’t take much to make her happy. She got a Manning jersey for Christmas, too.

Next year we have to decide about that NFL Sunday Ticket thing.

In the meantime, Dirtcrashr celebrates the Colts’ victory in true gunblogger style. Go see!

Government Interactive

I’m off to Olympia today to show my elected representatives my dislike for at least one of the laws they;ve written. Here is the post from last week about it. You are welcome to join hopefully around 300 of your fellow Washington gun owners there.

I’ll be driving myself and Mr. Completely down and we’re hoping to see The Heartless Libertarian there as well, though his employer has decided to throw a wrench into that.

I’ll be taking all my A/V equipment and I’ll use whatever they’ll let me into the room with. Pictures and hopefully video will be here tomorrow.

I’ve written a statement to be submitted at the hearing, though I’m pretty sure I’m not up to doing any speaking. The Gun Owners Action League asked folks to keep their statements down to around 100 words. I have no idea how in the hell I’d ever do that. This is as succinct as I can possibly be.

To the members of the Washington State Senate Labor, Commerce, Research and Development Committee:

I was saddened to hear that my elected representatives had submitted SB-5197 and was extremely disheartened to read that my own Senator, Debbie Regala had signed on to co-sponsor yet another attempt to regulate the purchase and trading of firearms between enthusiasts at their monthly gathering spots; what are more commonly known as “Gun Shows”.

SB-5197 is an attempt to criminalize and make public the private dealings between private, law abiding citizens that is being cloaked in the guise of “fighting crime”, despite the fact that the number of criminals who purchase their firearms at gun shows is very near to non-existent. To say that SB-5197 will have very little impact on crime would be an understatement, since no state which has passed legislation against gun shows has seen any measurable drop in their crime statistics.

In closing, Senator Rodney Tom helped draft and propose SB-5197, and I would like to use an analogy that I’m sure his constituents in Redmond would easily understand, as I hope the members of this committee will:

Crime is not a hardware issue, it is a software issue.

Thank you

You all have a good day. If you’re heading down that way, I’ll be the tall goofy loking guy trying to get his video camera in the building.

RNS Quote of the Day: 02/08/07

Seeing as how I’m travelling to the state capitol to show support for my civil rights on the subject of firearms, I think I will have to keep this in mind when I face the gun bigots.

Explaining the pleasure of collecting excellent condition examples of the astonishing engineering feats that are the firearms of the 19th and early 20th centuries, each with a story to tell, many having miraculously survived actual combat, to the gunhater would be like trying to explain the pleasure of accumulating a complete set of autographed first editions of your favorite author to an illiterate savage, incapable of viewing their pages as anything but toilet paper or kindling.

I’m a Bill

bill.jpg

Actually, I’m a Phil, but who’s keeping score here?

I spent some time with Mr. Completely and Stefan Sharkansky on a conference call with some Washington State House Republicans yesterday evening. John Rothlin, the House Republican Communications Director, Representative Cary Condotta of the 12th LD, Representative Ed Orcutt of the 18th LD and a third gentleman whose name I wrote down but am unable to read at this time.

The topics of conversation were the Republican Tax Cut Plan and their “Families Before Felons” Rally.

C’mon below the fold and see what this was all about.

RNS Quote of the Day: 02/07/07

I won’t be wronged, I won’t be insulted, and I won’t be laid a hand on. I don’t do these things to other people and I expect the same from them.

John Wayne – The Shootist

Long, long ago, on a blog far, far away but surprisingly with the exact same name, our good man Puggs the Grey posted these words and wrote a very excellent post about how these ideas are mostly gone in today’s world.

Puggs stepped off the RNS platform a goodly time ago, then popped back up at his very own Blogspot blog, and has once again left the blogosphere entirely with no forwarding address.

I found these words most recently at the new Blogspot blog “What Would John Wayne Do?” which you’ll find permalinked on my section of the sidebar.

Anyone who agrees with Puggs is OK with me.

The Horror! Updated!

The “Controversy”!

After the Superbowl, Jabberin’ John Aravosis said that he couldn’t wait for “the religious right to flip out” over Prince’s shadowplay with his guitar during the halftime show that made it look as if his wang was 18 inches long and barbed.

Little did he know that Snickers had made a homophobic ad that would set Jon-Jon on a tear across all of candy-snackbardom.

His little made up controversy involves the Snickers commercial where the two mechanics touch lips “Lady and the Tramp” style while eating a Snickers candy bar. The conclusion of the Superbowl ad had one of the guys saying to the other “Do something manly!” and then they both rip out clumps of their own chest hair.

To Johnny Boy, this is “Homophobic”. He even starts issuing threats at Mars Inc.

As the guy who launched the first-ever successful boycott of a TV show (StopDrLaura.com), I’m going to suggest that they had better nip this in the bud quickly, or they’re not going to know what hit them.

What? Is Hurricane John going come into the offices of Mars Inc. wearing nothing but a cravat and his plastic PeeCee Police badge on a belt and redocorate?

Oh, nevermind. But wait, it gets better.

There are three additional endings to that commercial, and according to Aravosis, each is more homophobic than the last. To make it even better, we were supposed to log on to the Snickers website and vote to see which ending got shown during the Daytona 500.

In the second one, a thrid guy steps into the mechanics shop, sweeps back his hair “Fabio” style and asks “Is there room for three on this love boat?”

The third one has the two mechanics drinking motor oil instead of ripping their chest hair out.

The fourth selection has the first mechanic hitting the second one with a large wrench and then the second mechanic slamming the first one with the hood of the car mulitple times.

Tasteless and stupid? No more so than the GoDaddy commercials. Homophobic? Never in a hundred years.

Aravosis actually says sarcasitcally

Yes, the appropriate reaction to a guy kissing you is to beat the crap out of the guy who kissed you.

Actually John, it is the appropriate, non-homophobic, reaction. If a woman is allowed to slap a guy who delivers some unwanted lip-to-lip contact, then why is not considered the proper reaction for a guy to do it?

I pretty darn sure that in Washington State, an unwanted kiss is considered, at minimum, 4th Degree assault, 3rd or more if tongue is involved. Hell, I’d be willing to bet that on most university campuses, the militant feminists have it set up so as to classify it in the record books as an attempted rape.

I know for a fact that if some jackass tries to lay the liplock on me, he is first going to discover how instant velocity of the arm works and then what the Theory of Gravity is all about.

And that is not all “homphobia” Avarosis is bitching about. Apparently Snickers showed the commercial to a number of players on both the Indy Colts and the Chicago Bears teams and filmed it. Their reactions varied from grimaces to a couple of them saying “That’s just not right.”

So apparently the Indianapolis Colts weren’t the only homophobes on the field.

But not to worry for Indy though, because they let the Indiana Family Institute use a picture of Tony Dungy wearing Colts logo clothing for a banquet that they’re having this upcoming March.

Which leads “‘Da Jabberer” to award Indianapolis the “Homophobe Football Team of the Year” award.

2007banquet.png

Btw, that “religious right flip-out” over the Prince show never happened.

So much for John-Boy’s ability to predict the future.

UPDATE: I have the PeeCee Police theme song below the fold
