Ever seen an angry hippie?

Well, if not, you can read about a few of them in this LA Times piece.

It seems a few of them have “matured” and become “property owners” and now these “mature, property owning hippies” are pissed off and the hippies of the 21st Century living on the streets of their neighborhood.

From his second-floor apartment at the counterculture crossing of Haight and Ashbury streets, Arthur Evans watches a new generation of wayward youth invade his free-spirited neighborhood.

The former flower child was among the legions of idealistic wanderers who migrated here during the Vietnam War to “tune in, turn on and drop out.”

But Evans, who has lived at the same address for 34 years, says he has never seen anything like this crowd, who use his flower bed as a bathroom and sell pot outside his window.

They’re known as gutter punks, these homeless kids with dirty dreadlocks and nose rings, lime-green mohawks and orange spray-painted faces, who panhandle with cardboard signs that riff on their lifestyles. “Please Help Us Get Un-Sober,” one reads. Another: “Please Give Us Weed, Beer or Money.”

Sometimes aggressive, they block sidewalks as they strum guitars or bang on bongos. Gangs of them skateboard down the middle of Haight Street. Some throw used hypodermic needles into a nearby pond they call Hep-C Lake.

Evans, 64, says they should get help, clean up or go home.

“I used to be a hippie. I wore beads and grew my hair long,” he said. “But my generation had something these kids do not: a standard of civilized behavior.”

Panhandler Jonah Lawrence, 25, insists it is residents who need civilizing. “They say, ‘Get a job!’ ” he said. “And I say, ‘You got clothes for me? Or a place I can take a shower so I can look for work?’ It’s so bogus to tell me to get a job if I have nothing.”

I have very little sympathy for these residents of the Haight. Their generation saw the widespread emergence of a culture that wanted everything and gave nothing. This new generation draws their inspiration from the one the property owners come from. The unintended consequences of their influence has led directly to this situation.

If the folks in the older generation are going kid themselves, and lie to us in the process of doing so, and say that panhandling wasn’t prevelent in “their” culture, or that junkies weren’t lining the street during “their” time, then screw them. They need to, quite literally, take off their rose colored tea shades and open a history book or two. Bodies in the parks of Haight-Ashbury were a weekly occurance by the early seventies when heroin started killing former pot-heads by the dozens. The panhandling may not have been quite as aggressive, but going a block through the Haight and not seeing someone with a sign asking for money, drugs or food was the exception and not the rule.

Lastly, they could also try and elect someone to the city council who has an idea of what property rights and decency laws are. If they’re tired of their flowerbeds getting used as toilets, then they should try electing officials who will make it illegal to take a shit in public and let officers arrest people for trespassing.

You relax your laws, and you will attract those who like them that way.

Instead, these folks seem to enjoy electing people (or electing people who would appoint officials) such as SF District Attorney Kamala Harris:

Just because you legally possess a gun in the sanctity of your locked home doesn’t mean that we’re not going to walk into that home and check to see if you’re being responsible and safe in the way that you conduct your affairs.

What’ll really be funny is if the city hires these street urchins to do the inspecting.

Not “The Comfy Chair!”

Somebody better make a Monty Python “Spanish Inquisition” reference during the hearings

Firefighters in Greater Manchester are facing disciplinary action over claims they slept on a station floor instead of their new reclinign chairs.

Three men, based in Bury, are being investigated for “involvement in the use of unauthorized rest facilities”.

It is claimed they broke regulations by using sleeping bags on the floor rather that the $800 chairs.

They’ve christened these folks holding them up to scrutiny “The Furniture Police”. That doesn’t bode well for my reference being used.

I would almost settle for just one “When I was a kid, we’d have killed for a sleeping bag on the floor!”?

For the uninitiated

Being a responsible parent is too hard!

Thanks, State of Washington!

New Booster Seat Law takes Effect

The state’s new booster seat law went into effect Friday.

The law required children to be belted into booster seats until they’re at least eight years old and weigh 80 pounds, or are 4 feet 9 inches tall.

Babies must be in rear-facing car seats until they’re at least a year old and weigh at least 20 pounds.

Children 13 and under must ride in the back seat.

Violators face a $112 fine.

Oh yeah, and it IS a primary offense, just like all seatbelt laws weren’t supposed to ever be.

Hey breeders. It’s all your fault!

Childbearing [should be] a punishable crime against society, unless the parents hold a government license…. All potential parents [should be] required to use contraceptive chemicals, the government issuing antidotes to citizens chosen for childbearing.

David Brower - Founder : Sierra Club and Friends of the Earth

The right to have children should be a marketable commodity, bought and traded by individuals but absolutely limited by the state.

Kenneth E. Boulding – Originator of the “Spaceship Earth” concept

And yet, I have no doubt that either of these guys, if they were alive today, would have any problems with Bush’s Amnesty Plan.

I’ll also keep my eyes open locally for this nitwit, to see if she write about the poor wittle illegals needing to be made legal with no questions asked. From yesterday’s Seattle Times “Letters to the Editor” section.

Whenever The Times runs a story like “Readers take big, small steps for Earth’s sake“, the focus is on the efforts of a family that has at least two kids, but no mention is made that the primary cause of all environmental problems, not just greenhouse emissions, is too many people.

Families that have more than one child are part of the problem. In future articles, I’d like a Times writer to tell us how much one’s potential carbon footprint is reduced by not reproducing yourself. The government could create incentives with tax reductions for the childless. That’s a global-warming-reduction plan I’d like to see!

Denial isn’t a river in Egypt

Which is a bad thing, because leftoid university administrators are still living in it.

American University held a drill Thursday to prepare in the event that a gunman opened fire at the campus.

School officials and security officers said the scenario is one that they hope they would never have to actually face.

The simulation was modeled in part, officials said, because of the massacre at Virginia Tech University where a gunman opened fire on the campus, killing 32 people before killing himself in April.

Unlike many campuses in our area, police at American University are not armed, officials said, so any incident involving a weapon means that officers from the Second District Metropolitan Police Department are automatically called in.

As those officers arrive to the scene, AU officers manage the perimeter, officials said.

During the drill, officers entered McDowell Hall on the campus and find two students dead. Other fake students participating in the drill who were wounded were questioned and carried to safety.

Less than 20 minutes after officers arrived, the drill was over.

The suspect in the drill was captured and killed.

Great, they leave a mass murdering lunatic with weapons alone for 20 minutes in a building full of students forcibly disarmed by the university administration. Can you guess a body count?

We know 32 dead and 25 wounded from VTech. We also know that drills are exactly that. Add another 20 minutes to their time.

So let’s see I think the number would end up being: Anyone in the building the murderer wanted dead.

What a waste of time and money.

Not a Frog

The old say goes something like “A frog in a pot of water that is steadily getting warmer”. But in the case of Jan Gzrebska, if he were a frog, the water would have gotten cooler.

Real damn cool. Real damn quick.

A 65-year-old railwayman who fell into a coma following an accident in communist Poland regained consciousness 19 years later to find democracy and a market economy, Polish media reported on Saturday.

“When I went into a coma there was only tea and vinegar in the shops, meat was rationed and huge petrol queues were everywhere,” Grzebski told TVN24, describing his recollections of the communist system’s economic collapse.

“Now I see people on the streets with cell phones and there are so many goods in the shops it makes my head spin.”

But ask any good leftist, and they’ll tell you that Reagan was an ass. Go ahead, find one and ask. I’ll wait.

Lee at Right Thinking believes this is might be “the coolest story he’s ever heard.”

I know it ranks right up in my Top 10. Oddly enough, right there with a couple others from the end of the Soviet Era.

And of course, this’ll be all Bush’s fault

Poll: Most coastal residents still not prepared for hurricanes as storm season arrives

Most people along the Gulf and Atlantic coasts haven’t made hurricane survival plans, despite pleas from emergency officials for residents to prepare before the season starts, according to a poll released Thursday.

The six-month Atlantic season starts Friday, and forecasters have predicted an above-average year: 13 to 17 named storms, with seven to 10 of them becoming hurricanes and three to five of those major one of at least Category 3 strength.

One forecaster said odds were high that a major hurricane would hit the U.S. this year.

Nevertheless, 53% of people surveyed in 18 Atlantic and Gulf Coast states say they don’t feel that they are vulnerable to a hurricane, or to related tornadoes and flooding, according to the Mason-Dixon poll. Eighty-eight percent said they had not taken any steps to fortify their homes.

La-de-da. Nanny state, take care of me. I don’t want any responsibility for my own inaction. La-de-da.

Fuckin’ idiots.

A good use of the courts

Unfortunately, the state’s incompetence will cost me, not them.

Starving boy given OK to sue state agency

KING 5 News has learned that a court has paved the way for a little boy to sue the state agency who was supposed to protect him.

Snohomish County Sheriff’s deputies found 4-year-old Shayne Abegg starving to death in an Everett apartment in March. He weighed just 22 pounds, which is half of what a normal 4-year-old should weigh.

That’s not just the worst of it.

If you follow this link, you’ll see and read that this boy and his brother were taken out of a foster home after the foster mother went to court to adopt the child. The bio-dad found out and sued for custody. The courts ignored all previous evidence of abuse and gave him the boys.

Two months before the Sheriff’s Deputies rescued the boys, a state employed social worker supposedly went and inspected the home. The report from that visit said that there were no problens. In my opinion, ten will get you twenty that no visit was made.

If the state is going to waste money to promote “green awareness” programs while underfunding social services like this, someone needs to go to jail for writing that budget.

I’m not for children being taken out of homes where the acusations of abuse are in question. Guilty until proven innocent is no way for The State to operate, even in the case of those who are too small to defend themselves. But if they are going to remove kids after obvious signs of abuse, they should bear criminal liability for returning them to their abusers. Judges, case workers, the lot.

Just thought you might like to hear it from me

Instead of someone else.

With all the hype of the upcoming Fred Dalton Thompson Presidential bid, the left (and probably some in the R-Party too) are going to be digging in the dirt for items to turn people away.

One of the items that will be coming out shortly will be that Fred received campaign contributions from Farhad Azima and members of his family.

Who’s that, you ask….

In Kansas City, the Iranian-born owner of Global International, Farhad Azima, expressed dismay that his airline might have been bamboozled into gunrunning by the charter firm in Belgium In Beirut, sources familiar with P.L.O. operations told TIME that other planeloads of weapons had been successfully flown to Central America from Libya and Algeria. All the cargoes were disguised as medical supplies.

The weapons were supposedly part of the Iran-Contra trades. Fred got $6000 throughout his time in the Senate. Thompson returned $3000 of it.

Azima also raised $9500 back in the mid-80’s for Thompson by hosting parties in his Smyrna, TN. home.

You have the info, go read about Azima and make your own call.

However, you’ll also want to know that Azima moved to New York and gave $129,000 in the 2000 election cycle to, you guessed it, all Democrats (Chris Dodd, Chuck Schumer, Hillary!, Teddy Kennedy and Al Gore are all on the list).

In 2002, he gave to all Dems.

In 2004, he gave to all Dems.

In 2005, he split his losses but still gave twice as much to Hillary! as he did to the RNCC.

Just thought you’d want to know before the ball drops.

This is why I read rags like AmericaBlog.

More from the false prophets of the eco-socialist movement

In ten years all important animal life in the sea will be extinct. large areas of coastline will have to be evacuated because of the stench of dead fish.

I would take even money that England will not exist in the year 2000.

The battle to feed humanity is over. In the 1970’s, the world will undergo famines. Hundreds of millions of people are going to starve to death in spite of any crash programs embarked upon now. Population control is the only answer.

Each of these quotes are from one man – Paul Elrich, Stanford university biologist and advisor to Al Gore. They are all circa 1970.

I guess we know where Algore got his habit of making extraordinary (and idiotic) statements from.

Oh sure, why not one more from Elrich. Something more recent perhaps?

We already have too much economic growth in the United States. Economic grotwth in rich countries like ours is the disease, not the cure.

But of course, they’re not socialist idealogues. Nope. No siree. No way.
