Not “The Comfy Chair!”

Somebody better make a Monty Python “Spanish Inquisition” reference during the hearings

Firefighters in Greater Manchester are facing disciplinary action over claims they slept on a station floor instead of their new reclinign chairs.

Three men, based in Bury, are being investigated for “involvement in the use of unauthorized rest facilities”.

It is claimed they broke regulations by using sleeping bags on the floor rather that the $800 chairs.

They’ve christened these folks holding them up to scrutiny “The Furniture Police”. That doesn’t bode well for my reference being used.

I would almost settle for just one “When I was a kid, we’d have killed for a sleeping bag on the floor!”?

For the uninitiated

Well, it seems clear they didn’t expect that.

I’d like to know exactly why a recliner is better for a fireman to sleep on than a horizontal bed. Otherwise, it sounds like replacing beds with recliners is just a vote-buying scheme, and a few inspectors weren’t happy when they found out their vote-buying scheme didn’t work on a few people.

Not only is Brittain becoming more like the novel “1984”, they’re becoming like a Python episode. Give it a few years and I’m sure we’ll see some Swiftian “modest proposals”.
