I know I said just drum skins a guitar strings last week, but I had to throw in a horn. And a Piano. And a little harmonica. I’ll pare it down next Thursday.
Sometimes when you really just want to get away, you actually go through with it. That’s today’s tunage.
Not for me however. I’m gonna have to stick this week out. That’s OK though, I’ve got a week off in the beginning of July. Just 17 days to go, with only 13 of them actually requiring me to clock in.
Thunder Road – Bruce Springsteen
Wish me luck.
But first, a bit of news about he who defines the term “Moonbatâ€, though the term was not begun because of his name.
George Monbiot, the environmental campaigner, scourge of the automobile industry and champion of not owning cars, has finally bought himself . . . a car.
Notwithstanding pledges to live a green lifestyle and be a model to others, he has given in to temptation and acquired a secondhand Renault. The car industry will be silently celebrating the news. Monbiot has championed an anticar movement that has grown rapidly in influence to the point where many owners now feel guilty about using their cars.
His most recent book Heat: How to Stop the Planet Burning was a bestseller on both sides of the Atlantic. He once described the pro-car lobby as “antisocial bastards†and has blamed cars for ruining children’s lives. “Our children are growing upsocially stunted: instead of playing together they are playing alone on their computers, partly because the streets are both dangerous and choked with cars.â€
In what can only be described as a comprehensive U-turn, Monbiot has chosen a Renault Clio, an economical hatchback but not the most frugal in fuel consumption or carbon emissions. He bought it from a friend for an undisclosed amount. As zealots will be quick to remind him, it emits 115g/km , 10% higher than a Toyota Prius, the petrol-electric hybrid belovedof CO2 of the green movement.
Jeremy Clarkson, Monbiot’s long-standing antagonist, said: “I’m glad he hasn’t gone for a Prius – that would have marked him out as an idiot. I just hope the bonnet doesn’t fly up (Renault Clios have been criticised for faulty bonnet catches) because he’ll be killed – then where would the world be?â€
He says he only uses it as “transportation of last resortâ€, but for someone who said that very few people actually “need†personal automobiles, it sounds as though he has set himself up as a laughing stock.

And now, without further ado, some more false predictions from the early manifestation of the eco-chicken little crowd.
If present trends continue, the world will be about four degrees colder for the global mean temperature in 1990, but eleven degrees colder by the year 2000…This is about twice what it would take to put us in an ice age.
Kenneth E.F. Watt – Speech at the 1970 Earth Day Rally in DC
Dr. Watt gets his title from his degree in Zoology and he is a Board Member of the Center for the Study of CO2 and Climate Change.
I guess that he just couldn’t bring himself to join a group with “Global Warming†in their name.
This cooling has already killed hundreds of thousands of people. If it continues and no strong action is taken, it will cause world famine, world chaos and world war, and this could all come about before the year 2000.
Lowell Ponte – Author of The Cooling 1976
The only time it seems to get abnormally cold is when Al Gore stops in your town. But we should trust them this time around.
You may remember Mike Palecek from the last time I couldn’t find anything very interesting to blog about. Here he is again, on Memorial Day.
Well, it’s Memorial Day weekend.
You think we have enough military holidays? Flag Day. Armed Forces Day. Loyalty Day. Love It Or Leave It To Beaver Day. Siddown, Kid Day. Dead Guatamalans Day, Dead Lakota Day, Dead Phillipino Day.
I do.
Think we have enough. One is too many. The military sucks. It takes money from the poor, from people who should get it, and goes to people who are slaughtering in the name of American business.
Eff the military.
I can see some people joining the military, thinking they are helping people, helping save the world. That’s because they are stupid. They are not stupid on purpose, but because others have made them that way on purpose. The stupid ones have believed the lies of others. I was once the poster boy for stupid. I would have gone to Vietnam, for sure, if someone had told me to. I would have done anything to make people like me, run wind sprints at six in the morning, mow the lawn at midnight, barbecue old women and babies.
Probably.
I wouldn’t go now, if I had to. I’m not that much smarter now, but a little. It doesn’t take much to get from where I was to where I am now, or to get smart enough to say no to the United States of America.
Yep. Sometimes, you just have to go with crazy.
It seems that House Majority Leader, Harry Reid (Dumbass – NV), wants to shove the Immigration “Compromise†through the Senate as soon and with as few added amendments as possible, which is very appreciated by Senator Jon Kyl (Retard-AZ).
Yesterday they debated it into the night with one of the casualties being the last little bit of common sense that the Senate may have had.
The defeated amendment, proposed by Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), would have permanently barred many convicted felons — including sex offenders, gang members and repeat drunk drivers — from qualifying to become legal permanent residents.
Supporters of the bill said, however, the amendment was written so loosely that it also would have barred those guilty of other felonies, such as violating deportation orders or using false identification documents. That, they said, would have applied to a huge number of illegal immigrants.
It lost 51-46. Those 51 Senators should seriously look at themselves. Any immigrant who comes here legally and defies a court order or commits a felony gets his visa yanked. Yet these Senators, in their rush to slip a piece of shitty legislation under the noses of the American people before they smell it, would create a different set of rules for those whom we already know are willing to disregard federal law.
You can find out if your Senators are on the list of folks who voted to allow known criminals to gain citizenship here. Give them a ringy-dingy, let them know how you feel about their decision. Likewise, if they voted for it, let them know you appreciate their vote.
While that bit of politics doesn’t quite constitute treason, this one does
Peace activist, retired businessman and Democratic candidate for president Dal LaMagna is in Amman, Jordan, where he met Monday with an unnamed leader of the Iraqi insurgents who have been targeting American soldiers. LaMagna plans to travel to Baghdad to officially kick off his campaign for president.
You really need to read this item at the Seattle Times. If your bile level is low, you may even try LaMagna’s website to read his full account.
Linoge at Walls of the City has made it to Kaliforniastan. I’d say something about misery loving company, but all the sunshine and low humidity here (not to mention the babes) make me forget about all the bad laws we live under, so I ain’t really miserable.
Time to go cook some more Happy California Cow steaks on the barbecue while sittin’ in the hot tub wearin’ my Ray-Bans, sippin’ a nice glass of Wente Pinot Noir, enjoyin’ a bj sexual attention appropriate to my lifestyle choice from my wife partner(s), and admiring my Kel-Tec SU-16 or other Kali-legal firearm of choice — which is what every Californian does after work every damn day, of course.
We all wish. Still, we get pretty close. Welcome, neighbor!
I keep adding more to my flickr account. Keep checking back if you’re interested. It’s taking a long time because I made the mistake of using a 35mm film camera. As always, I’ll be posting selections here.

We have to offer up scary scenarios, make simplified, dramatic statements, and make little mention of any doubts we may have. Each of us has to decide what the right balance is between being effective and being honest.
