RNS Can Haz Famous People

That’s famous people like Bonnie/Squeaky of Squeaky Wheel Seeks Grease, who’s going to be staying with us at Trib’s Place for Boomershoot 2009, and who “just happened to pop in” to Cam Edwards’ NRANews radio show last night. Check it out.

Less famous, but no less a gunblogger, is Derek of The Packing Rat, who’s also staying with albeit on the excellent cot in the justifiably famous Lundberg/Great Room. Hope he doesn’t like to turn in early, ’cause the Great Room’s where we traditionally do gun show-n-tell and drink (not at the same time) and converse ’till the wee hours. Both of these fine folks — fellow members of the Tribe of People of the Gun — are taking advantage of Joe Huffman’s Gunblogger Day at Boomershoot 2009, as are Phil, Dave, and I.

If you’re a gunblogger, you should too.

Phil and I aren’t quite sure how the shooting positions for all these folks will be working out, but with luck we’ll have six gunblogger positions under the RNS tent canopy in 2009 (which means a second canopy). To refresh everyone’s memory of the sybaritic luxury that is Trib’s Place:

I’ll take some more of that Global Warming, please

As you’ve probably already heard, not only has Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels issued and executive order banning city employees from using their Concealed Pistol Licenses while on city property, but the Seattle Parks Board is getting ready to ban campfires on the park beaches.

Not because of fire danger. Fer chrsakes, they’re on sand.

No, they want to stop people from roasting marshmallows in the dark to try and fight Global Warming.

The same Global Warming that is the cause of what is being called “June Gloom 2008”. Basically, June is going to be more like April than June here in the Pac NW.

It is currently snowing on Snoqualmie Pass.

It is less than two weeks before the first day of summer and they only opened Chinook Pass last Thursday

FYI: This is what Chinook Pass looked like last November. Also, the usual opening day is right near Easter. Memorial Day is considered “very late”.

I suspect that this new batch of snow will close it down again.

Is AlGore somewhere nearby, and if so, can he please leave soon? I’d like to get my summer on.

Here is a Lesson

That I dearly wish was taught in the public schools.

Tim Blair took a drive over the weekend and posted up on the subject of the history (and dangers) of left wing politics.

The history of left-wing politics is a history of unintended – and invariably negative – outcomes.

Glorious workers’ revolutions lead to tyranny. Welfare causes misery. Government-funded tertiary education ends up subsidising the same proportion of private school and state school students as previously attended universities under full fees. Public broadcasting evolves into elite programming funded by people who never watch or listen to it. Decades of state film funding gives us films nobody pays to see.

I could go on. Hey, I will:

And he does, giving multiple examples of just how insipid left wing government can be. This is my favorite.

Meant to deliver cheaper petrol, this $20 million baby – due for launch in December – is believed likely (by four government departments) to instead make petrol more expensive.

The way FuelWatch works, see, is that petrol stations all tell a Big Government Website what their prices will be for the next 24 hours – this is locked in, which is the problem – and you drive home whenever you’re low on fuel and check out the site and then drive over to wherever the cheapest petrol station is.

You know, if there was such a demand for a cheap-fuel site someone might already have come up with one. And they have! According to MotorMouth.com.au (a private site that gets by on advertising) the cheapest petrol in my area is $1.53 per litre at the Caltex on Alison Rd.

MotorMouth has been around for eight years. It was previously known as FuelWatch.

I laughed. And then I cried knowing that this is what will be coming our way.

No Excuses

When Bush took office, the price of gas was $1.44 a gallon.

The Congressional Repubs forgot that their base doesn’t like to be “governed” and turned into Democrat-Dopplegangers.

This lasted for six years. During that time multiple attempts to open up ANWR and other oil drilling sites within our borders was tried, but was always defeated by the Democrat minority.

When the Democrats too over in 2006, the price of gas had risen to $2.10 per gallon.

$0.66 in six years.

Since the day of their swearing in ceremonies, the price per gallon of gas is now at $4.04 per gallon.

$1.94 in one and a half years.

And this is why:

ANWR Exploration:
House Republicans: 91% Supported
House Democrats: 86% Opposed

Coal-to-Liquid:
House Republicans: 97% Supported
House Democrats: 78% Opposed

Oil Shale Exploration:
House Republicans: 90% Supported
House Democrats: 86% Opposed

Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) Exploration:
House Republicans: 81% Supported
House Democrats: 83% Opposed

Refinery Increased Capacity:
House Republicans: 97% Supported
House Democrats: 96% Opposed

SUMMARY:
91% of House Republicans have historically voted to increase the production of American-made oil and gas.
86% of House Democrats have historically voted against increasing the production of American-made oil and gas.

90% of our oil is still in the ground, unavailable for drilling, thanks to one political party (two if you count the lack of testicles of another).

40% of our Natural Gas is also unavailable to us by this one party.

Those who love making $135 and up per barrel love the Democrat Party.

If you didn’t sign the petition yesterday that demands Congress Drill Here, Drill Now, today would be a good day to correct that error.

Localism

Sounds innocuous enough, doesn’t it?

Everybody likes local. Local is a known. It’s something everybody wants more of.
Well, don’t be fooled, “Local ism is the new “Fairness Doctrine”

In a 2007 report, an ultra-liberal think tank known as The Center for American Progress issued a report called “The Structural Imbalance of Political Talk Radio.” Jim Boulet of English First says its agenda was to cleverly recast the so-called “Fairness Doctrine” by using the term “localism.”

“In 2007, they issued a report in which they bragged that if they could get more women and minorities to own stations, there’d be fewer stations carrying programs like Rush Limbaugh. What the regulations also do is we create a board of censors, really, who the radio station would have to meet with four times a year to listen to all their complaints — and if they weren’t satisfied, the radio station could lose its license,” Boulet points out.

Unfortunately, he says, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has bought into the agenda with its “Report on Broadcast Localism and Notice of Proposed Rulemaker.”

“Because the American people know how diabolical the Fairness Doctrine is, those who want to re-impose it on the airwaves and shut down programs have found a backdoor way to do it with the so-called ‘localism’ doctrine,” Boulet contends.

One of the proposed regulations would require racial and sexual quotas for station ownership, and another would require that all “licensees should convene and consult with permanent advisory boards.” Boulet says he knows what that will mean.

“These boards are going to be made up of people like the [Council on] American-Islamic Relations, The National Council of La Raza – all a bunch of professional grievance mongers who will never be satisfied until programs like Rush Limbaugh are no longer on the air,” Boulet explains.

I know they want to get their point across, but I still wish they wouldn’t use Limbaugh as their only example of non-leftwing radio.

Hit the above link and sign the petition. The FCC’s review process for these new rules ends tomorrow. The airwaves are yours. They do not belong to the extremist organizations who are going to do to radio what they’ve done to Canadian free speech.

Seattle CCW Ban

Over the weekend I received multiple emails asking if I’d heard about the Seattle Mayor, Greg Nickels, spouting off about wanting to ban Concealed Pistol License holders from carrying concealed on city property. In a short answer, yes, and thanks to all who queried.

Here’s the dilli-yo: I didn’t write about the asshole who fell through the cracks and got his CPL, and then years afterwards was acting the fool by attempting to draw a pistol from an ankle holster during a fistfight at the Folklife Festival the other weekend because I didn’t’ want to jinx PacNW gunnies by wondering aloud on these here interwebs just what stupid gun laws Nickels was going try and enact to “keep the people of Seattle safe.”

Personally, I’d ban the Folklife Festival first. But I’m not in charge there.

However, as I discovered Friday night when this news hit the wires, I shouldn’t have bothered to hold back. Nickels and his Chief of Police, Gil Kerlikowske, are two of the gun-ban attemptingest bigots every to occupy City Hall.

On the plus side: What Nickels wants to do is patently illegal, as Washington State Law preempts all local laws (hit that link, read Sections 2 and 3). He can issue executive order after executive order, eight days a week until downtown Seattle slides into Elliott Bay. The first time an SPD Officer tries to enforce it, the city has a lawsuit on their hands. Likewise, I believe that his EO’s have no standing for civilians (aka: non-City employees) and carry no weight beyond that line.

Also, the local media isn’t really taking too much effort to promote his agenda. This relatively pro-gun article on the subject of Open Carry ran in National News section of Sunday’s Seattle Times.

However, on the downside: The Washington State Supreme Court is currently more left-leaning than ever before. Groups like CeasefireWashington regularly hob-nob with certain Justices. If a suit against the city gets to the current residents of the bench, things could get ugly. Also, Nickels is exactly as ideologically driven as Philly’s Mayor Nutter and will very likely try to do something stupid.

So, what can we do to attempt to hold this back?

Write well and write often would be our first option. The City Council doesn’t really like Nickels, and while some of them wouldn’t mind it a bit if he was successful in this round of exceptional bigotry, filling up their email and ringing their phones will get him called in for a talk in front of their august body.

Mayor Greg Nickels: (206) 684-4000

Seattle City Council Members

Tim Burgess: (206)684-8806
Sally Clark: (206) 684-8802
Richard Conlin: (206) 684-8805
Jan Drago: (206) 684-8801
Jean Godden: (206) 684-8807
Bruce Harrell: (206) 684-8804
Nick Licata: (206) 684-8803
Richard McIver: (206) 684-8800
Tom Rasmussen: (206) 684-8808

(Thank you to Ray Cater for saving me the work)

After that, it will be a courts game. Even with Democrat super majorities in the Legislature and their owning of the Governor’s Mansion, this is an election year and I do not see anything being given to Nickels from them. IIRC, Washington State does still have the highest per capita NRA membership in the nation and the State Dems know these things.

If I were not as calm about this as I am, my emails and phone calls would have included the fact that people slip through the cracks and gain employment in the Seattle Police Department (a department that, reliable sources say, is so desperate for officers that they will hire people who have been “let go” from another policing agencies).

Also, I would also have mentioned that if Mayor Greg Nickels wants to keep guns out of the hands of criminals, his first and wisest move would be to fire his Chief of Police.

Stay calm. Breath naturally. Call and/or Write. Wait for the next move.

More Boomershoot Coolness

At Boomershoot 2008, all registered attendees received a free copy of David Hardy’s “In Search of the Second Amendment”

I’ve watched it three times since I got home and am amazed at the plethora of facts he was able to pack into this documentary. It is to Joe’s credit that he was able to get these for us.

I have also loaned it out to four friends, two of which ordered their own copy.

Hit one of these links and order yours today.

David Hardy has handed us another gift to pass around: 21 facts about Barack Obama’s voting record when it comes to your rights as a gun owner.

It should scare the pants off of you and anyone else who loves them some Second Amendment.

This is knowledge that needs to be relayed to every gun owner you know.

I work with Teamsters. The national Teamsters organization endorsed Obama during the primary and will do so again in the general. The local union officers will be around with their political materials in September/October. I will be posting/passing this information out starting today with the “hope” that I will “change” some fence sitting minds beforehand and give the locals some heartburn via union members questioning the union’s stance on their Second Amendment rights.

RNS Quote of the Day: 06/09/08

All I have to ask this guy is: Since when?

Freedom of speech is an American concept, so I don’t give it any value.

Canadian “Human Rights” Investigator Dean Steacy, responding to the question “What value do you give freedom of speech when you investigate?”

Sadly, more bad news from Canada.

Drill Here. Drill Now.

And pay less for gas.

Watch this video and then go here and sign the petition.

They have nearly a half-a-million signatures already.

It is a shame that this would be what it takes to get Congress’ attention.
