The story behind the link reads of a couple in Bellingham, WA.

Popular Mechanics is lucky that they interviewed that couple and not one in King County. Just before Ron “Tax to the Max” Sims” left to go work in the Obama Administration, he issued an Executive Order that basically made it illegal to have more than one rail barrel. If they had interviewed a couple that did as the Kroll’s do, that couple would be declared criminals.

Now, because the County Council didn’t pass it, it “technically” isn’t a “law”. However, if the county PUD finds out, they will cite you for what basically amounts to “theft of a natural resource”. Repeatedly. Until they either own your home or you give in and pay the fines. I can’t wait until they cite someone who can afford a lawyer to fight it.

I live in Pierce County. I’m not quite to the stage of the Krolls, but I can see King County from my driveway and that gives me inspiration.

Hungry Hounds

The Wife has always made the food for our gang of canines. It is pretty easy.

She hunts the dent and ding section of the canned food aisle for the canned vegetables, buys eggs in bulk and hard boils them or rice in bulk and steams it up. Since we grill more than most, when I fire up the box, I set some burger/lesser cuts of whatever was on sale for them on there as well.

Once all the ingredients are assembled, she mixes it all together and serves it up. Sometimes, I’m pretty sure the dogs eat healthier than I do. I also credit her canine cooking to Russell’s nearly 17 years of age.

However, the current mix includes both hard boiled eggs and creamed corn. I am warning you all, do not try this mix. I opened up the container this morning and just about fell over. It smelled more like ass than ass.

Private Space Flight moves ahead another step

This is just awesome. A group of private Danish citizens have (without any government help, or more importantly, interference) built a manned spacecraft, and are preparing to launch it next week.

What was once an undertaking so complex that it was only made possible with the collective resources of entire nations, has become the domain of hobbyists.

I’d be ashamed that this type of project was not first attempted by a US team, but I can hardly fault any such group given how obstructionist US Law is against this sort of activity.Â I mean, the BATFE claims that advanced model rocket engines are regulated explosives (luckily a judge disagreed).Â I can’t imagine the regulatory nightmare that exists for handling the higher impulse fuels.

Let’s wish them all good luck!

Obama on the $1, FDR on the $100

First banning ammunition by an end-run around Congress, now this? The administration’s really going for broke to ram everything through before the election, aren’t they?

Fake! Calm your blood pressure, folks. This is not a Treasury proposal. It’s actually an interesting and rather well-thought-out design for national currency. I like having each denomination be slightly longer than the one before. It will help the young ones to be able to make change in the jobs of the future, you see.

The subjects on the bills, however, (aside from the 1st 10 amendments on the $10, that’s cool) are a leftist’s wet dream and need to go. Click to embiggen — like I said, it’s a pretty cool design in the abstract. Just not well executed from a content standpoint, y’know?

Actually, since I’m 1/8 Cherokee, the $5 design would meet with my approval, but it seems so arbitrary — “we had to fit the Indians in somewhere, let’s throw the top 5 tribes on the $5.” Sticks in my craw.

The Bill of Rights could definitely be written better, too. Sounds like you have the right to “Excessive Bail.” WTF? How about “No Excessive Bail,” sparky? Oh, that’s right, you’re a British design shop. Forget it.

Political Incompetence in the White House

If there is one thing the Obama Administration could do that would end up handing control of both houses of Congress to the Republicans, this was it.
Running a winning presidential campaign is tough, and sort of self-selecting: if you can win, presumably you and the people around you are capable of imposing order on the vast federal bureaucracy as well (which, at this point, constitutes governing). That nobody in the White House saw fit to stop EPA from trying TO BAN AMMUNITION, of all things, (or to stop CBD from filing the petition in the first place) speaks volumes to the actual incompetence wandering those halls. At least force EPA to delay consideration of it until after the election? Anybody? Bueller?

Really, you thought there was a wave of energized folks voting R, well, there are still lots more who won’t get off their asses even in November 2010 — but this just might get even them out to vote.

I mean, how beautiful a misstep can this be? The lead-ammo ban proposal is locked into the regulatory process, so I doubt the Administration can stop it with a phone call at this point. The Stupid Party should be riding this one ~~into the ground~~ as hard as possible and putting it away wet; all candidates taking R money should be required to spout a line at every appearance about how “Obama is using EPA to ban ammunition! It’s happening right now as I speak!” every day until the comment period ends — which just so happens to be the week before Election Day.
