Tear Down the Golden Gate Bridge

It is a danger to humanity.

From The OmbudsGod

According to the San Francisco Chronicle,

About 1300 people have successfully committed suicide from the Golden Gate Bridge. Thats about 200 more than Americans who have been killed in action in Iraq. So routine are the deaths that, to get your name in The Chronicle for jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge, you need to be already famous or take someone with you, or at least tie up traffic for a while. Thanks for the tip?

Moreover, Studies of the few dozen jump survivors (very few of whom tried again) suggest that the bridge death toll includes many who might otherwise not have jumped, had there been a barrier to make jumping more difficult.

Now head on over to see who he blames for these dead Americans.

Didn’t Watch The Superbowl

I heard one of the teams won. Big surprise there!

Here on the west coast, the game started around 1500-1530. That is what is known as prime weekend sleeping time for a guy who works nights.

I am kind of miffed that I missed some of the commercials though. But that is OK, I can watch most of them on the internets.

My favorite one so far is the US Army one that takes place in the airport.

You can watch it here.

Michelle Malkin has some accompanying links including to folks who had some disagreements with it.

Check ‘em out if’n ya like.

Count ANY Vote: Part Dvadtsat Odin

My apologies for being late with this, but nothing time sensitive really happened.

First up, in a loss for the Dems:

Judge refuses to dismiss lawsuit over governor’s election

Judge John Bridges today refused several Democratic attempts to dismiss the governor’s election lawsuit, saying allegations made in the case, if proven at trial, would be sufficient to overturn the election of Gov. Christine Gregoire.

Bridges also rejected Democratic arguments that any challenge of illegal votes by felons and others should have been made by Republicans before the election because they amount to problems with voter registration.

“This case should go forward, at least at this point,” the Chelan County Superior Court judge said.

SEVERAL requests to dismiss the case from the Dems.

This can be visualized by picturing in your head a seven year old child stamping his feet and saying I dont want to go to the dentists! over and over again.

And in a small loss for the Repubs:

But he ruled that Republicans must show any illegal votes were cast in favor of Gregoire, and not Republican candidate Dino Rossi.

There would have to be enough illegal Gregoire votes to erase her 129-vote victory margin.

Bridges said that if Republicans did prove their case, he would not order a new election for governor as they want him to do. Rossi has said that was the only remedy he would accept.

Democrats had argued the judge didn’t have that power, and Bridges agreed. He said state law and the state constitution do not give him the power to order a new vote, which he called “special relief.”

It also gives the Repubs the ammunition. If they do prove their case, that there was fraud and that Rossi should have won, this will be ammunition to bring up often for the next three and a half years (or until Senator Maria Cantwell come up for re-election in 2006).

In other lame news, the Gregoire camp waited until just after Judge Bridges ruled to release that Gregoire has received a credible death threat for a looney in the town of Wapato.

Very smooth. It took the lead in the overnight and morning news cycles. Very smooth indeed.

As Michele Maklin reported, Gregoire then went on to blame right wing talk radio for the guy getting up the steam to make the threat.

Sadly for Gregoire, Wapato is located quite close to Bum-Fuck-Egypt and is much too far away from any of the talk radio stations that she could be describing.

From Brian Maloney at the Radio Equalizer blog,

KVI and KTTH do not generally reach Yakima County except in certain atmospheric conditions that are only occasional. KIRO and KOMO do reach the area for most of the day, KIRO in particular. KVI has a very small 5000 watt signal, KIRO has 50,000 watts. As a result Yakima has its own local talk station that is almost entirely nationally syndicated programming.

KVI and KTTH are conservative stations; KIRO is liberal. KOMO is mostly news. It seems unlikely that Martelli spent much time listening to conservative Washington State talk radio hosts.

Ha! Greoire, The blogosphere fact checked your ass and has found that you are talking out of it.

As Usual.

Venting is Good

Steve at Hog On Ice continues Hate Friday with a post about our favorite fake Indian, Ward Churchill.

Let me say a few words about the whole “Indian” concept, as applied in modern America.

Well, let me say one word. “Bullshit.” Indians have been treated as badly as any group in the history of the world, but for some reason, every spoiled white child in America wants to be one. Because, yo, Indians are cool. They have all sorts of quiet, Zen-like savage wisdom. They can talk to trees. They can predict the weather. Before we came here, they all lived in peace and harmony, without polluting the land or hurting the bunnies and squirrels.

Uh, EXCUSE ME. Before Europeans got here, the national pastimes were mass murder, slavery, pointless torture, human sacrifice, and cannibalism. I hate to break it to you, little one-thirty-second Indian, representing your tribe down at the food court, but American Indians did exactly what all primitive people do. They killed and raped each other from sunup to sundown, and they decorated their homes with each other’s dried body parts.

As for being nice to the environment, that’s what people do when they have no technology and a population density of three per square light year. Take North America, populate it with ten million of the fattest, greediest, whitest Republicans you can find, take away their electricity, coal, oil, gas, and nuclear reactors, and they won’t pollute, either. Pollution is a side-effect of progress, kiddies. It has nothing to do with Caucasians lacking mystical powers.

I wouldnt get too excited about the mystical thing. Spirit guides and sweat lodges and talking to the bears and so on. White people see spirit guides, too, when they eat enough peyote. When I was in college, I once had a vision of George Hamilton in an Izod caftan. He waved his magic Martini at me and told me to go forth and build strip malls.

This is exactly why I havent really said much of anything on the subject. Anything I did would pale in comparison.

Go read the rest.

Three Days of the Kos IMC

So, Ive been collecting these links from the Klueless Kos Klan and trying to figure out what, exactly I am going to do with them.

Lets see.

Feb 3,
Because they hate everything and everyone attached in any way to the Bush Administration, on of the Klan decided to check the background of Ms. Sofia Taleb Al Souhail, the Iraqi woman sitting behind Laura Bush at the SOTU address.

Turns out, she is everything Bush said she was. Heaven forbid that Bush be proven to be honest.

Feb 4,
The government lawyers lost a case against the tobacco companies in the D.C. US Court of Appeals. Seems they wanted, big surprise, more money.

Since they went through their first wad of cash like crap through a goose and they saw that their cash cow still had some cash in it, they went for another milking and lost.

The Klan members whine and seethe.

Feb 5,
Juan Cole gets his ass handed to him by Jonah Goldberg for saying that the 1997 Iranian elections were more democratic that the 2005 Iraqi elections.

Big baby Juan comes back with a response of,

Jonah Goldberg is a Doody-Head! (paraphrased, of course)

Is that the best you can do, little man? I thought you were some sort of professional writer or something?

Poor wittle Juan. Cant make your hyperbole stick, so you just attack the messenger. Politics of Personal Destruction, ineeed.

Good News

From ex-Seattle area mil-bloggers.

Officers First:

Chad at Dogtulosba got his North Carolina CCW. Can an XD-40 be far behind? (I doubt it)

Enlisted men:

Raging Dave of Four Right Wing Wackos, only recently expatriated from the Socialist Utopia of Seattle, came back to the area to look into joining the Active Guard and Reserve.

The lucky stiff seems to have walked into an assignment at Fort Buchanan, PUERTO RICO!

I met up with Dave on Saturday night shortly after he got the good word. One bottle of good Scotch and a couple other gifts later he was still smiling from ear to ear.

So hopefully, after toiling in the gray and dreary confines of liberal-playland for too many years to bother counting, sun and fun will be in the cards for Dave and his new missus.

Stop on over to these guys respective pages and congratulate them.

A Damn Good Weekend for Reading

I say this because of three things I read over the weekend that you should read as well, if you havent already.

Ladies first is the tradition here at RNS and so I give you Da Goddess, who has a few words for a troll that Im pretty sure could be extended to most of those on the left.

I’m tired of the bullshit.

Where were you? Where were the people who dress up in costumes and burn flags? Where were the hands that could have helped lift up the oppressed and guide them safely to their destinies – whatever they may be? Where?

I’ll tell you where you were.

You were standing on the streets here in the good ol’ United States of America. Safe from firing squads that the people in Afghanistan and Iraq would have had to face should they attempt the same. You’ll still be standing there next week, next month, next year. Because you refuse to accept reality.

And meanwhile, my friends and I were working to send REAL PEOPLE REAL MATERIALS to improve their existence. We came together to do good and to bring hope.

Next up, Cicero at WindsOfChange has a few questions for the liberals and progressives

*What would have been the best, most legitimate way for Iraq to achieve democratic elections? Can it be applied to Burma, North Korea, Iran, and other dictatorships?

*If your answer to this question involves the UN, address the UN’s corruption with the Oil-for-Food scandal, sex slaves in the Congo, and the inability to prevent the Rwandan genocide. If the top dogs of the UN are profiteers for the containment of dictators like Saddam, and their representatives trafficking sex in the countries they purport to peace-keep, how can the UN be a legitimate force for democracy?

*Are tyrants defeated with soft power, or merely contained until they fade away? Is contained fascism simply the unstated and accepted cost of soft power? If it is, should Hitler have been opposed?

*What can corrupt soft power?

*Are there any circumstances where hard power is warranted?

*If the UN is too corrupt and impotent, and the US is too sovereign to represent the world, what organization would you propose instead?

*Would a ‘UN-D’ — a variation or branch of the United Nations, except the members are all democracies — be a better legitimizing force for democracy than either the United States or the current United Nations?

*If you had to wear a uniform and be put in harm’s way, but could choose the flag you fought for, which flag would it be: Your family crest; your town’s flag; your state’s flag; your country’s flag; your religion’s flag; the UN, NATO or EU flag; or an NGO flag. Why?

While the questions themselves are excellent, make sure to hit the comments section.

Last, but most certainly not least, I read the excerpts of an interview with Ted Nugent on the Bob & Tom radio show at Dangerous Logic. Ted just got back from doing a USO Tour in Iraq with Toby Keith

You should read it too. Or, if you prefer, go listen to the audio at Excelsior News.

Well, it was a glorious celebration, particularly as life is good, bad, and ugly. It was the greatest of good, and it was the most gut-wrenching of bad and ugly, but the irrefutable conclusion is that good must hammer relentlessly – and good is hammering relentlessly – to eliminate the bad and the ugly, and the spirit, the soul, the attitude, the piss and vinegar, the fire, the passion, the American Dream firestorm of every man and woman of the Armed Forces, everybody in the Army, the Marines, the Air Force, the Navy, the Coast Guard, the National Guard, the cavalry, everywhere we went, playing acoustic guitars in some hell zone of a tent outside of Fallujah, sharing C-130s and Chinook helicopters with flag-draped coffins, it was an intense – I believe – y’know, I’m a pretty intense guy anyhow, but I’ve never witnessed nor felt deep in my guts an intensity of confidence and certainty that was fortified there like never before in my life, that the whole world sucks but America sucks less, and the more America can get freedom and liberty and a hint of these glorious God-given rights that are guaranteed in our Constitution and our Declaration and our Bill of Rights – the more that we can bring that to people, the better chance they have of having a quality of life – most of them for the first time in their lives, so my spirit is soaring on eagle wings right now, and it’ll never come down because of that experience.

History Repeating Itself?

How long before we got Uday and Qusay or captured Saddam himself were we hearing things like ” security forces missed them/him by mere hours”?

Well, how about this,

Zarqawi escaped capture by one hour

Al Qaida’s leading insurgent in Iraq has narrowly escaped capture by a coalition forces dragnet.

Iraqi Interior Minister Falah Naquib said U.S. and Iraqi forces nearly arrested Abu Mussib Al Zarqawi in late January. Naqib said Al Zarqawi escaped his stronghold about one hour before coalition forces raided the premises.

If I remember correctly, within 45 days after getting reports like this, our guys had killed Uday and Qusay and had found Saddam in his rat hole.

Im hoping history repeats itself.
