Stomping on the head of a conspiracy theory

Murdoc overhears a coworker telling an anti-Bush lie,

“And you saw how those gas prices went down right before the election, didn’t you?” he said. “Then they shot right back up. Funny how that happened, isn’t it?”

As he is retelling this story, he posts a graph that effectively crushes the head of this lie. Check it out.

Keep this one handy folks. Ive heard this one multiple times from the Teamsters I work with and I dont expect it to go away for a while.

Saying Goodbye to Spain?

B. Preston at the JunkYardBlog has some news of the recent happenings between the recently elected Socialist leaders of Spain and the ETA separatists.

He starts out very simply with something those of us on the right side of the blogosphere know all to well,

Put a Socialist in power, screw up your country.

Basque separatist terrorists ETA have waged a bloody war against Spanish rule for decades. Zapatero, who took power after Spanish citizens were cowed into replacing a more conservative government by the Madrid bombings last year, came into office promising them the moon in exchange for their support. They’re holding them to his promises, demanding more, and withholding support. That’s what terrorists do. Because of all this, Zapatero is basically screwed.

If youve ever wanted to tour Spain, now might be a good time.

Kickass Gun Deal

This week I have another piece of history for you.

SavageEnfield.JPG

Savage made Enfield #4 Mk I, US Property marked, in 303 caliber.

Almost all Savage parts on the rifles, but with occasional British bolt mixed in. A hard to find piece of history. These are US made rifles, many sent via Lend-Lease to the British during WWII. They are in good condition, and include the Savage made bayonet (with scabbard). Ordnance markings visible.

Get ready to cry… they’re only $179.95!

After WWI, the Brits went around and disarmed their populace ‘For The Good Of The Public’.

When the Germans started getting aggressive and the Brits decided that they may have to defend themselves, they found that there weren’t going to be enough guns to go around if the Germans decided to invade their little island.

Sound familiar, lefties?

So as a showing of support, the US Government paid for a contract with American gunmaker Savage to build a bunch of Enfield rifles.

If for no other reason than to show the folly of gun control, you should buy one of these rifles.

Sadly, J&G Sales uses frames on their web page, so I cannot give you a direct link to the sale.

Here are some directions: go here and click on the ‘Online Store’ button and then the ‘I Agree’ button. On the left hand column, click on ‘Rifles’ and then ‘Military Rifles, Bolt Action’. These Enfields are the second from the top.

Good Shopping!

UPDATE: My post last week about the Schmidt-Rubin K31 helped make Kirk at Fun Turns To Tragedy blog’s wallet a little lighter.

Go check out his new purchase.

Government in Action

Washington State isn’t quite this bad,

Sex offenders found to bypass residency laws

Analysis: Many area schools have criminals living too close

Loren Underwood and his wife, Catherine, were convicted in 1997 of having sex with an underage girl. Having served more than a year in jail, they’re now living in an upstairs apartment within 1,000 feet of not one, but two East Toledo schools. Boys and girls pass underneath their living room window every school day.

That’s illegal under Ohio’s law that prohibits sex offenders from living so close to a school.

It’s also not unusual.

In fact, one in four of Lucas County’s more than 600 registered sex offenders live within 1,000 feet of a school, according to a Blade analysis.

“There’s a whole lot of sex offenders and not a whole lot of area,” said Lucas County Deputy Ernie Lamb, who for seven years has knocked on doors to verify sex offenders are living where they say they are.

Here in Washington, if I remember correctly, the government doesn’t know where approximately 20% of the sex offenders even are.

Mostly this is because sex offenders are legally allowed to register as ‘homeless’ once they are released.

Welcome to the Liberal Utopia.

Truly Sick

I don’t know who did this,

Bald eagles found slaughtered in Vancouver B.C.

A flash of white feathers lured Julie Bryson-McElwee’s dog into the bush. She followed when he didn’t come back. A dead bald eagle lay on the forest floor. Lunging to keep her pet away from the carcass, Bryson-McElwee stumbled on Wednesday across a shallow grave, piled with 14 of the protected species. The legs and tail feathers had been cut off, possibly for sale on the black market.

“It’s just sickening,” Bryson-McElwee said in a telephone interview on Thursday. “Whoever did this had a real operation going, there were garbage bags all around the grave and in it. It looked to me like they were killed somewhere else and brought here to be buried.”

Wildlife officers investigating the killings say they aren’t uncommon.

“We have found birds mutilated like this over the years,” said Rick Hahn, a senior conservation officer for the Lower Mainland. “We suspect there is a black market trade in the talons. Eagles are traditionally used by First Nations people for cultural ceremonies.

But if I ever caught someone doing something like this, I have a feeling that it would be they who would be getting mutilated and their corpse found by dogs (If at all).

They should give her the store

You show up for work, day in and day out, and after a couple weeks, your checks start bouncing and no one is ordering supplies.

I’ve worked for some crappy managers, but nothing like this,

Fast-food shop owner takes off, employees take over

It was a scene right out of “Home Alone,” but the locale was a Quiznos Sub shop in North Seattle, where the franchise owner was absent for weeks and the skeleton crew made do with a dwindling food supply and a lot of irate customers.

“Due to bad owners we are out of a lot of things, please do not get mad at the employees & manager,” explained the cardboard sign on the door.

Things had been this way since November, Dawna Lentz, the store manager said, just a month after the sub shop opened in a little strip mall on Holman Road.

Since food vendors would no longer deliver on credit, Lentz drove to discount grocers to buy lunchmeat, using cash from the previous day’s till. She bought the special Quiznos bread from other franchises, rationing part of what was left after the lunch rush, so there would be enough for the crew working the dinner shift.

Lentz tried to pay employees daily. On the back of each employee’s paycheck, which she didn’t distribute for fear they’d bounce, she tallied the hours worked and the cash each employee received. She wasn’t sure how to handle payroll taxes, so she paid each worker according to the net income shown on their checks.

Sounds like a good manager to me. I wonder if Quiznos can sue the previous owner? And if they can, they should give her and the employees who stuck around bonuses.

Running guns to the Khmer Rouge

So you have, of course, seen “this rehash”:http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6886726/ of the John Kerry magic hat claim, but now with a new twist – that he was running weapons to the Khmer Rouge. Unfortunate on a couple of fronts, since the Khmer Rouge were communist rebels trying to kill US soldiers, and that they wouldn’t actually appear on the scene until several years after Kerry’s “Christmas in Cambodia”.

Kerry also wistfully wishes that his special hat friend would come forward, and silence all of us doubters once and for all.

bq. _*I still have the hat that he gave me, and I hope the guy would come out of the woodwork and say, “I’m the guy who went up with John Kerry. We delivered weapons to the Khmer Rouge on the coastline of Cambodia.” We went out of Ha Tien, which is right in Vietnam. We went north up into the border. And I have some photographs of that, and that’s what we did. So, you know, the two were jumbled together, but we were on the Cambodian border on Christmas Eve, absolutely.*_

You also may be aware that Ward Churchill, the UC-Boulder professor of ethnic studies at the center of the “little Eichmans”:http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=14482 has a “few questions about his military past as well”:http://www.denverpost.com/Stories/0,1413,36%257E53%257E2689334,00.html (plus the minor point that he’s not really an Indian, but I digress).

Well, RNS has uncovered archival footage that SEEMS to tie all the pieces of this kerfuffle together.

Whupped

I have, sitting in my email, a collection of links that contains enough stuff to keep me writing for 4+ hours.

The trouble is, after another 14 hours at work (to cap off a 58 hour work week), I don’t feel much like writing.

So today, taking a tip from Rivrdog and the Grouchy Old Cripple (in Atlanta), I present you not with boobage, for that is a little over-done these days.

I give you, Professor Booty’s Fabulous Spankables

Not Safe For Work (but that is OK, I’m not going to work this weekend).

*************************

PS: for those not interested in all that, I’ll be back Sunday morning with another kick-ass gun deal. Among other things.

Oh and if you’re a guy, you might want to check your pulse.
