Running guns to the Khmer Rouge

So you have, of course, seen “this rehash”:http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6886726/ of the John Kerry magic hat claim, but now with a new twist – that he was running weapons to the Khmer Rouge. Unfortunate on a couple of fronts, since the Khmer Rouge were communist rebels trying to kill US soldiers, and that they wouldn’t actually appear on the scene until several years after Kerry’s “Christmas in Cambodia”.

Kerry also wistfully wishes that his special hat friend would come forward, and silence all of us doubters once and for all.

bq. _*I still have the hat that he gave me, and I hope the guy would come out of the woodwork and say, “I’m the guy who went up with John Kerry. We delivered weapons to the Khmer Rouge on the coastline of Cambodia.” We went out of Ha Tien, which is right in Vietnam. We went north up into the border. And I have some photographs of that, and that’s what we did. So, you know, the two were jumbled together, but we were on the Cambodian border on Christmas Eve, absolutely.*_

You also may be aware that Ward Churchill, the UC-Boulder professor of ethnic studies at the center of the “little Eichmans”:http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=14482 has a “few questions about his military past as well”:http://www.denverpost.com/Stories/0,1413,36%257E53%257E2689334,00.html (plus the minor point that he’s not really an Indian, but I digress).

Well, RNS has uncovered archival footage that SEEMS to tie all the pieces of this kerfuffle together.
