For those of you

Who are like me and are tired of the lefties whining about the WMD that have not been found in Iraq AND don’t have time to quote hunt AND don’t stop by Instapundit very often, here is an excellent link to just a few of the pre-invasion quotes mentioning things OTHER THAN the WMD.

My favorite:

Margaret Warner on the PBS Newshour, February27th 2003

“The president further asserted that a democratic Iraq could transform the entire region in a similar way.

Hmm, sounds about right to me

Ain’t it the truth!

This funny was sent to me by the Analog Mom. It is supposed to be funny, except that I went to school in the 80’s and it is pretty damn close to what I saw in the general math classes (thank somebody I was in Honors classes).

Through the 90’s my friend’s younger siblings were going through what I had just got out of and what this says about the math teachings was, again, pretty damn close to the truth.

Teaching Math In 1950: A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is 4/5 of the price. What is his profit?

Teaching Math In 1960: A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is 4/5 of the price, or $80. What is his profit?

Teaching Math In 1970: A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is $80. Did he make a profit?

Teaching Math In 1980: A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is $80 and his profit is $20. Your assignment: Underline the number 20.

Teaching Math In 1990: By cutting down beautiful forest trees, the logger makes $20. What do you think of this way of making a living? Topic for class participation after answering the question: How did the forest birds and squirrels feel as the logger cut down the trees. (There are no wrong answers.)

Birdwatching

I had let the dogs out to do their business this morning and was standing on the porch watching to make sure that the littlest one (Jake, the French Dachsund) didn’t wander on out into the street when I saw a Bald Eagle fly just above power pole level and light in a tree across the street from my house.

Needless to say, I seriously contemplated bringing my camera outside with me on my next trip outside.

I am hoping that it doesn’t rain or get too frigid tonight. I want to be able to hang around outside and see if the eagle sticks around. If he does, he and the resident owls might be having a pissing contest. I witnessed an owl versus Golden Eagle fight a few years back and their aerial artistry was quite impressive.

And for those who think that watching avatars go at it is disgusting and/or bloodthirsty (I talking to you, enviro-weenies) remember, it is natural for them to do so.

Hence, I’m watching nature.

Overload

As I said yesterday, I was getting called out to numerous modelling emergencies these last couple weeks.

The story I’m featuring today was much more than anticipated and took much longer than I originally though.

When dealing with models and their problems, you have to use different tactics. Basically, they don’t think like the rest of us. In general, they don’t care if they live or die, unless they’re going to be forced to give up their wardrobe, then they’d rather just die. Putting them in dangerous situations such as dealing with killing machine animals (crocodiles, tigers, etc) doesn’t really phase them because they can’t really think about much more than themselves and this keeps them from adding just what the animal could do to them into the equation.

Also, logic, such as 2+2=4 or “plane with no engine = crash” just doesn’t work.

Which is what led to our sad tale for today,

Things I wished I had said

Yesterday, Joe Huffman, creator and organizer of Boomershoot and blogger at The View From North Central Idaho, linked to my “Broken Tooth Blues post having had a very similar problem the day before.

A troll calling himself ‘Henry’ came into the post and made this comment:

Now that you are feeling better, perhaps we can talk about about an idea I have for Boomershoot.

Regardless of what your or I may think is the cause of all those innocent people being killed and maimained each year by firearms, I think we can agree that it is very sad that all of those people have had their lives ended or made miserable.

It seems to me that it would be an appropriate gesture if, at the outset of Boomershoot or at some highpoint in the festivities, there were a minute of silence in memory of all those people. I am sure tha the failies of most of those people would be grateful.

What do you think?

Being me, I came in and made a snarky comment about ‘Henry’ having lost his mind. I’d like to blame the Novocain and follow-up pain killers, but chuckleheads just set me off.

Fellow Boomershooter, Mike, came in and posted the comment of a level headed individual that I wished I had made:

Hey Henry,

I’m a sensitive, new-agey sort of guy. I indeed feel for the poor innocents who have met a violent end:

the battered wives who were prevented from possessing the one tool that could protect them when the police wouldn’t;

the inner-city shopkeepers, helpless to protect themselves from felonious attack by repeat offenders, looking to feed their crack habit;

the terrified teachers who were prevented from stopping a ritalin-addled child from killing his classmates and colleages with an illegally-obtained weapon;

the millions in socialist regimes who’ve been rounded up and marched off to end up laying in a mass grave, with no means to resist;

The “gun culture” grieves for these people as much as, or more than, the bleeding heart liberals like you. We just don’t see the solution as simplistic as you do. Banning guns doesn’t stop evil – it just hinders good people from stopping it. But it’s increasingly clear that you do not see this as your problem – just ban the guns and hope the police will protect you.

The only moments of silence I plan to observe at Boomershoot are the interludes between my connection with a few pounds of high explosives. Perhaps I’ll let a vision of 9-11 pass through my mind’s eye, just before I press the trigger.

Good on ya, Mike. That was probably more swift and painful to Henry than any amount of insults I could have slung. Bravo!

See you in a week.

But what if they pee on The Shroud?

Because the Italians have solved every other problem in the lives of the people of the City of Turin, they are now looking to make the lives of dogs more fulfilling.

ROME (Reuters) – Dog owners in Turin will be fined up to 500 euros ($650) if they don’t walk their pets at least three times a day, under a new law from the city’s council.

I love my dogs. The Analog Wife treats the dogs better than a large number of parents treat their children. But three walks a day?!

Can I just put the dog on the treadmill?

I’ve been saving lives

How have you been doing?

Hello everyone! Professor Booty is back!

I had sort of a whirlwind worldwide tour going on the past couple weeks. Getting called here. Getting called there. Getting called everywhere. I apologize for the time away but you must understand that these were emergencies.

Well, most of them were. I will admit that some of my stops were for pleasure, but they were on the way from an emergency. Some things just cannot be rushed and good posteriors are one of those things.

Let’s see here, what do I have to feature to you all today, ahh yes, one of the urgent house calls I had to go to.

Bad News

Hey y’all. Sorry to leave you hanging today, but it is a week before Boomershoot and I am singing “The Broken Tooth Blues” and am off to the dentist.

Hopefully I’ll be heavily medicated very shortly because working last night could not be considered fun under any machination of the word.

If you are looking for something to read that has the potential to make you scratch your head and then wander off to clean your firearms, you might want to review a one or both of the items I found at the Seattle IMC last night.

First up is something called “10 Questions to the Zionists”.

It has to be the strangest thing I have read in a while. It admits that the Holocaust happend, but blames it on internatioal Jewery instead of the Nazis.

The other piece is called “Against Rightwing Demagogues”

It basically applauds the Soviet’s overrunning of Germany during WWII and praises the USSR’s imperialism of eastern Europe.

Of course, they don’t use any of that language.

Excerpts “We bow in great thankfulness before the Soviet people and its Red Army.” “Our solidarity is due to the Palestinians struggling for their legitimate rights, the Iraqis fighting against the imperialist occupation and our friends from the Israeli peace movement.”

Them is some sick bastards, right there, I tell you.

—————————————-

For those looking for a song for the weekend that you may not have heard in a while, I’ll open up The Soundbaord for Nine Inch Nails’ version of Queen’s “Get Down Make Love”.

If you haven’t heard this particular rendition, check it out.

But that is about all I can offer today. I’ll see you all tomorrow.

This is beginning to happen all too often

Everyone in the area was hanging their heads low when the story of the vandalizing of an interracial couple’s home came across the wires.

I don’t know whether this news makes me any happier,

EVERETT, Wash. — The 16-year-old boy whose family’s south Everett house was ransacked and defaced with racial slurs has been arrested in connection with the crime.

Police said the boy and two friends painted a swastika and “KKK” on the walls April 12 to divert suspicion in a burglary.

The teens were arrested Monday, and Sgt. Boyd Bryant said investigators suspected it wasn’t a hate crime because one of the teens had previously pawned property stolen from the home.

Police said the boy recruited two others to take part in trashing the house, a 16-year-old friend and a 19-year-old transient who lived with the family for a time.

The 16-year-old was tripped up by an untouched China cabinet, police said. The boy told the other teens not to disturb sentimental items in the cabinet.

The son and his friends are jailed for investigation of burglary and malicious mischief.

The mother, Crissy Kitchell, who is white, and her boyfriend, Wes Washington, who is black live at the home with eight children. On Saturday, dozens of volunteers gathered to help clean up the mess.

The kid should be tried under the same “Hate Crimes statute that any other perpetrator would have been. If the family doesn’t like it, that is just too damn bad. Slapping this kid on the wrist will only reaffirm his supremacy over them.

Let little Johnny Shithead sit in jail for half a decade and see how he feels about vandalism for revenge.
