Hadn’t seen this before. Pretty impressive.

If it were turning the other way I could call it a metaphor for the upcoming elections, but no dice.

Carriers are… crazy. And they just love doing that kind of gos-se with frigates planted on their ass (in plane-guard position, where they are supposed to be)… without TELLING ANYONE. *sigh*

So that’s what 220 million pounds looks like in a 30 knot turn…

Yeah, but they are on sea trials – no aircraft on the flight deck. Quite probably testing the steering, and engaging in what carriers call “heavy rolls”. Guess those types have never been on a destroyer in a typhoon.

PS: that’s a REALLY old picture of the Nimitz – the tower aft of the island still carries a SPS-43 air search radar. They were replaced by the SPS-49 air search radar starting in 1979.

Been there, done that. It’s kind of fun the first couple times. After a while it gets old. As for the small boys, well, what can you say. Some ships lead, some follow, some are made to be steady and sturdy and some are made to intercept torpedoes.
