Everybody needs a little KFC. But maybe not Chicago.
The fast-food chain has sent off a letter to the nation’s mayors, offering to patch their potholes for free. The company will leave behind a stenciled brand on the patch informing people the road has been “Re-Freshed by KFC.”
“In honor of our “Fresh Tastes Best” campaign, we want to come and Re-“Fresh” your roads!” KFC president Roger Eaton says in the letter. “Every patched pothole comes with the Colonel’s very own stamp of approval.”
But Brian Steele, a spokesman for the Chicago Department of Transportation, which is charged with repairing the city’s potholes, said “We don’t allow any type of printing or advertising placed on a city street or sidewalk.”
Pothole repair at no cost to the taxpayer versus some paint that’ll be gone in a month.
Hmm, it’d only be a tough decsion for a complete moron.
I suspect that the city’s utility unions have a hand in this.
Actually, Phil, the point has been proven before the first shovel of asphalt hit a pothole.
Big government and their allies, the SEIU and/or AFSCME unions, will continue to hold we city-dwellers in their grip. Nothing that would ease that grip will be tolerated, except for the occasional anti-graffitti work (which they’re too lazy to do) or flower plantings along the parking strips, where there should be turf or concrete, anyway.
All the hype about volunteerism is just that, hype. I volunteered, with plenty of experience training police reserves, to start a volunteer unarmed patrol to take back MAX, the light-rail line though my area. MAX has been usurped by the drug gangs and folks are afraid to ride their own train anymore.
Despite the fact that my name is known at City Hall, and to over half the cops on the beat, I didn’t receive one word of support from the City, which claims it is too strapped to add any more transit cops to the few ineffectual ones patrolling now.
I’m biding my time. There will be a day soon when such efforts will not only be acceptable, they’ll be required, and they won’t be unarmed efforts at that point, either.
KFC probably didn’t offer enough grease to enough hands.
