More, Much More on EMP

One oft-derided knee-jerk Washington response to any particular issue is to establish a “blue-ribbon panel” of luminaries to examine it and produce a report. This usually serves to take the issue off the table for a few years and is a great way to punt while looking like you’re doing something significant.

The dirty little secret that all policy wonks know, though, is that these reports are usually REALLY INFORMATIVE. I used to devour ’em in college. You can learn all sorts of things.

This April 2008 report on the EMP threat to America’s infrastructure is just such a report. This is a top-notch report, written by experts who knew what they were doing. It’s gold. Download it. Read it. Live accordingly.

Note: it confirms Top Gear’s conclusion that your late-model car is probably safe from EMP. No need to go whole-hog and stick to carburetors and points; EFI’s just fine.

And if you don’t know what a SCADA is, then you don’t know what really runs this country. Read the report and find out!
