Friday Dog Blogging

I think everyone here remembers Jake the Vichy Dachsund, right?

Well, for those who don’t, Jake is the 16yr old, blind and deaf Dachsund with the inactive thyroid that the Analog Wife adopted over a year ago. She got Jake because Peaches, the Pug who had to wear diapers, was already taken.

My wife, the ‘hard case’ lover.

But I guess I shouldn’t complain, she married ME fercrisakes.

Anyway, while Jake has a number of organs that don’t work anymore, his olfactory one has made up the difference.

The wife and I went to PeTa’s favorite place on Sunday and picked up a family bucket and when we got home we discovered that Jake really likes KFC. He is known to beg, but I had never seen him as vehement as he was that afternoon and when we were done, he literally sat in the kitchen looking in the direction of the bucket until the wife gave in.

She emptied the bucket except for a few pieces of popcorn chicken and let Jake have at it.

Here is is at work

Here is trying on his guilty look, but we know he enjoyed it

One good thing about Jake is that he is so old and fat that he is easy to photgraph.

Make sure your dog has as good a weekend or better as you do.

The Soundboard: Sucker for a Hook Series

Part 7: Quite possibly older than you

It’s Thursday again and here we are with another bit of tunage for you. This time, I’m taking the way-back machine for a spin.

Unless you’ve recently had your American Graffiti album or some of your Doo-Wop records out or tuned into oldies radio for an extended period of time, you might not have heard this one in a while. I tend to think of it as one of the very first tunes with a deeply embedded hook in it. Sure, there were hooky song before it, but this one was a quick setter with a barb on it.

I can’t remember when I first heard it, but I know that by the age of 12 I had an album with this song on it for when I needed a fix.

So, without further ado…..

Runaway – Del Shannon

PS: Speaking of being hooked, I think I’m addicted to fruit roll-ups now.

Robbing Peter

To pay whomever they feel like.

In typical leftist fashion, the folks who started up Foil Hat Radio (aka Air America) USED YOUR TAX DOLLARS TO DO SO.

Not only did they take that tax money, but they did so knowing that it was supposed to go to AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS FOR INNER-CITY YOUTH!

Because so very few people wanted to invest to hear Al Franken and his fellow travelers bitch, moan and whine all night and day on the public airwaves, the kids in certain neighborhoods in NYC have pretty much lost their Boys and Girls Clubs until the next government grant comes down the trough.

And this information has been widely known in NYC since the first week of July, but where else have you heard about this???? And yet I still have to hear about Enron in the news at least every other day????

Oh, THAT liberal media!

Range Gear

At Mr. Completely’s place yesterday, I found a link to Cowboy Blob’s Saloon, Smokehouse and Shooting Gallery about range gear. It’s a good read that folks looking to start competing should use as a primer. My only change would be the item I am going to show off in this post.

First though, let it be known that I am a cheap bastard. I look at it as “A penny saved is another penny in the ammo fund and anytime I can save some cash, I do so. Which led me to buy this,

(All pics are clickable)
R2-1.jpg

His name is Stanley because it conveniently came molded into his chassis. I also call him “my R2 unit” even though he hasn’t beeped yet in the couple months I’ve had him, but I think that is due to a mistake at the factory because I can’t find a speaker of any kind any where.

I originally bought Stanley to hold my ever expanding collection of firearms cleaning gear, but after taking him with me to the range a couple times his mission has now changed to ‘Official Range Bitch Box’.

Stanley has a very roomy interior. Pop the levers in the front and the back and he opens right up.

R2-2.jpg

I have put 300rnds of 45ACP, 2000rnds of 22LR, 300rnds of 380ACP, 100rnds of 9mm and 200rnds of 38Spl in the bottom compartment and still had room for targets, 3 sets of ear and eye protection, a stapler, and 2 guns in hard cases and two in soft cases.

But that is only the bottom half of my R2 unit.

On the top you have a smaller compartment with a hinge top.

R2-3.jpg

Inside I carry mags, benchrags, a small cleaning kit, any screw-in chokes I may need and any miscellaneous small range goodies. There are also two small, lidded compartments on the top that I throw small wrenches and other tools in.

Of course, lifting Stanley into the back of the truck is a minor Herculean job at this point, but I can do it with one arm and I only have to make one trip from the truck to the shooting area and the extra weight makes him roll nice and smoothly, even in gravel.

So you may ask yourself “Wow, how much did this cost AK, the cheap bastard?

$19.95, brothers and sisters, on sale at Target. The price has since gone up to $24.95 or more depending on your location, but they are still worth it. In fact, it is so handy that I’m going to get another one (or maybe two) this Sunday and I think I’m going to have to start numbering them.

Or, I could just sticker them. Since this sticker proved so popular on my truck, I put one on Stanley as well.

It could happen to you

Boomershoot director and freedom advocate, Joe Huffman has built a website about his recent termination from Pacific Northwest National Laboratory that you really need to go see.

I say this because what you are doing right now, if you are doing it at work, even on your lunch break, could get you fired.

Even if you don’t write on a blog, just reading them can be grounds for termination. This is why I don’t blog from my work or about my work except when something extraordinary happens. Nor do I tell many of my fellow emplyees that I have a blog. That is all I need is for my manger to start stopping by even semi-regularly to see what I have to say.

If my employer decided that he didn’t like what I was writing or who I was reading, they have no barriers to firing me. It would be as easy as “Can I talk to you in my office for a minute? Thanks. By the way, you’re fired.”

Just go read what Joe has up and support him in his fight of a wrong done to a good man.

Postal Match Update

Well, that is it for the first installment of the rifle portion of the e-Postal Match. I’ve got a good number of entries and I’ll be getting them set up and ready for all to see on next Monday.

Mr. Completely already has a good number of entries for the pistol portion of the matches as well. In case you missed it, you can go here and get the low-down on swatting flies with your pistol.

Being the mischevious fella he is, Mr. Completely has also wrapped me up in a meme. A fun meme, but a meme nonetheless. The question is:

What is on your night stand?

Well, just like the Mr. I don’t have a “nightstand’ per se, but I do have a dresser that I set stuff on. Currently, there is a table top am/fm/CD player that no longer works, the cases for the CD’s that are stuck in the non-working CD player, a fistful of change, the remotes for both the TV and the DVD player in the room, the Analog Wife’s CZ-83, my 1911 and, I don’t’ know if this counts, but I also have my short-barreled H&R single shot shotgun leaning up against the dresser along with a sling draped over the drawer knob that holds 24 shotshells.

If I need more than that, I’m going out the window.

Excuse me

While I pick my jaw up off the floor.

The Chief of Police in the largest metropolitan area in the state has actually said something I agree with!

Chief Gil Kerlikowske has seen the light and says that it is really a question of “when not “if suicide bombers will attack the civilian population in Seattle and that he is bringing in bombing experts from Israel to give training to the rank and file of the Seattle Police Department.

Holy crap, it is about time someone took this seriously.

I’m almost undecided

Here is my dilemma,

Some societal upper eschalon types in Canada are bringing up the idea of requiring religious organizations and their employees (priests, pastors, rabbis, imams, etc) to register with the government.

While I would normally jump on this as utterly ignorant, even less intelligent than their waste of money “gun registration scheme”, another step down the raod of darkness and exactly what I would expect out of government officials in our neighbor to the north, I really want this guy registered.

A controversial Toronto imam warned Public Safety Minister Anne McLellan at a closed-door meeting to stop “terrorizing Canadian Muslims.

“If you try to cross the line I can’t guarantee what is going to happen. Our young people, we can’t control, Aly Hindy, the head of Scarborough’s Salaheddin Islamic Centre, recalls telling the minister at the May meeting she held in Toronto with dozens of Muslim leaders.

I not only want him registered, I want him to have to wear an ankle transmitter, a bright orange or yellow jumpsuit so we can see him in a crowd and one of those floating robots like in Star Wars that would record every single word that comes out of his purulent mouth.

This is Canada we’re talking about folks. They can do all of this, including the registering, without violating any rights given to Canadian citizens (ok, maybe not the floating recorder robot on technological grounds).

The guy is right across the border from us and who knows how many times he has crossed into the US (certainly the border patrol doesn’t know).

But since I am not a person willing to give up my freedom for ‘safety’, I am not willing to give up anyone else’s either, even if they are not a US citizen.

I still think Canadian authorities should still make him wear the jumpsuit and instead of bright yellow it should be a fluorescent shade of pink, like a good smoked ham.

e-Postal Match Announcement

First up, today is the last day for submitting your targets for the rifle portion of the postal matches. Get ‘em in today and I’ll post the results at this time next week for all to see.

Now check out part two,

If you haven’t already seen them, Mr. Completely has already released his pistol drill, and it is a challenging son of a gun (if you’ll excuse the expression).

It is most definitely fun, but still challenging.

I’ll be trying my hand at it on this upcoming Saturday after shooing some bowling pins and pin tops.

Go read the specs and give it a shot!
